£1k ish on handbag

So I have been gifted some money unexpectedly, and would like to splurge and get myself a lovely handbag. I buy very little for myself so am very excited at the prospect! I already have - and treasure - a LV summer bag and a mulberry small going out bag.
I'm happy to spend £1-£1.5k as a real treat. So if it were you which bag would you go for?

I have lots of coach bags and they are great quality. The 1941 range is their higher end line and has amazingly soft leather that wears well. I recently was gifted Grin a rogue bag and love it. Can be worn crossbody or on the shoulder and also has carrying handles that tuck into the bag when not in use, big enough for everyday use.

Also you can't go wrong with an lv neverfull IMO

Justfivemoreminutesplease · 15/09/2017 19:10

Lots of great ideas on here - I would go classic and either Mulberry or Prada. Or that red Gucci. Or that grey Ana. Grin
Personally I wouldn't go second hand as I would be worried about fakes. And also you want the enjoyment of handbag shopping. Are you going to do it in person rather than online as that is more fun? But saying that, I have bought my most recent handbags from Net-a-Porter and the black outer box that they all come in is lovely in itself.

Saurus72 · 15/09/2017 19:11

I've found that when I have lovely (and yes, more expensive) handbags that I really enjoy using, I am not tempted at all to buy more, less expensive bags. Have never bought £1k+ though!

I would buy these two:

Small cross body for weekends/going out - I've seen it and it's completely beautiful: www.mulberry.com/gb/shop/women/bags/shoulder-bags/mini-amberley-satchel-rust-silky-calf

Plus this tote for work etc: www.mulberry.com/gb/shop/women/whats-new/bayswater-tote-oak-small-classic-grain

Very envious, enjoy whatever you buy Wink

TheDowagerCuntess · 15/09/2017 19:11

Not a fan of Bayswaters (though love Mulberry), but the oxblood is lovely.

I'm well out of the handbag loop these days so no recs, but enjoy hunting and purchasing!

TheDodgyShoesOfDrFoster · 15/09/2017 19:14

I genuinely don't understand setting out to find a bag to spend a grand on.

I do understand seeing an expensive bag that you really love, want, long for, and then, if you happen to have the money, buying it for yourself.

QueenMortificado · 15/09/2017 19:20

Probably not the right thread for you then is it Wink

Youcanttaketheskyfromme · 15/09/2017 19:20

Probably to keep them from bankrupting themselves by looking at the really expensive shit Grin

holdthewine · 15/09/2017 19:40

I agree with PPs about going for something classic. I have admired Mulberry bags from afar and would either get navy or black or something neutral.

Also love this: www.net-a-porter.com/gg/en/product/768449

SelmaAndJubjub · 15/09/2017 20:55

Another vote for Coach but I'd hang on for the sales as they have great reductions. Or, if you have any friends visiting the US, ask them to buy it for you as much cheaper there.

Mulberry is a victim of its own success, I think - they're everywhere.

Pomegranatepompom · 15/09/2017 20:56

The zipped Bayswater is lovely. I also like the Chloe Marcie (I've got the mini).
I don't really rate Anya bags (have 2 and 1 became very misshaped quickly, plus hate all the lovely stuff).
Longchamp have some lovely bags, the classic Coach saddle bag is nice.

Enjoy OP and ignore all the rude posts.

dirtyprettything · 15/09/2017 21:01

Something classic which will always hold its value. I lobe YSL www.ysl.com/gb/shop-product/women/handbags-monogramme-loulou-classic-small-loulou-bowling-bag-in-black-y-matelasse-leather_cod45324788dd.html

BuzzKillington · 15/09/2017 21:04

I have a large tan Bayswater. Use it as my every day bag and love it.

Dh has just surprised me with an Oxblood Coach bag. Not a brand I would've considered - but it's lovely.

DrGrey · 15/09/2017 21:17

I would buy a Gucci Dionysus, Saint Laurent LouLou or Givenchy Antigone. Mulberry don't hold their re-sale value so I would avoid. Gucci is definitely having a renaissance at the moment and the quality is always good so definitely look at Gucci as they have a great range.

PoohBearsHole · 15/09/2017 21:17

The mulberry Bayswater does have a small flaw, it is very heavy (I still wouldn't kick it out of bed) but an everyday bag should still be easy to carry 😁.

I'm jealous - go to all the top shops and carry and prance and have lots of fun.

The other thing to think about is a really beautiful wallet/purse from one of the above and then splurge in space nk!

Or buy a sofa 🤔

HolgerDanske · 15/09/2017 21:19

One ought always to carefully check before one smugly corrects grammatical 'errors'.

Anyway,

I'd buy in the Mulberry sale and get two, I think. Or maybe splash out on the zipped Bayswater. But definitely in the sale as it's much better value.

littlecabbages · 15/09/2017 21:21

I'm a handbag junkie OP, bloody love them. Have got a great collection, my faves are Chanel. Although I'm lusting over Hermes I can't imagine ever getting one!. If I had a budget of 1-1.5k I would probably go for:

£1k ish on handbag
£1k ish on handbag
£1k ish on handbag
QueenMortificado · 15/09/2017 21:22

Christ, I've just had a look at the new mulberry bags and they are so expensive!! My Bayswater was about £800 6 years ago - how are they now £1250?!

The oxblood zipped Bayswater is beautiful though....

Pomegranatepompom · 15/09/2017 21:25
  • novelty not lovely in regards to Anya bags !
FrankyStein · 15/09/2017 21:26

I love it when all the knobs turn up on a handbag thread and bang on about carrier bags/benches/ verbs. It's generally jealousy as what else could it be? Not your money is it?

Op - I'd recommend Coach. More bang for your buck than Mulberry. I'd also like to throw LK Bennett into the mix. I have the Jenna bag and its quality is better than Mulberry

Id go for YSL!! I have two LVs, and one Burberry. I would love to add a YSL to my collection, but im trying to save for other things at the mo!Grin

Stickaforkinimdone · 15/09/2017 21:32

I'm a big fan of Longchamp-they have some beautiful bags, understated and really lovely leather
Also Marc Jacobs have some nice pieces

With that budget you could always consider getting more than 1 bag

I have a medium sized Mulberry Bayswater which I adore-if you're keen on the Mulberry bags you could always consider a trip down to the westcountry-they have their outlet shop just near Shepton Mallet and again you may be able to then get more than one bag!

Either way have fun choosing and come back to show us what you've bought-it is such a treat to have some unexpected money to spend on something you really want so I love threads like this!

ujerneyson · 15/09/2017 21:32

I never ever thought I would say this but I'm covering an LV neverfull. I always shied away from LV but I think they are beautiful when they get old and knackered and are perfect for everyday and for work. I think I've put a bit too much away for my tax bill and if I am proved correct that's my next treat to myself.

KimchiLaLa · 15/09/2017 21:34

traingal I know bags well. I suggest for a classic look

Givenchy Antigona
Prada tote
Balenciaga motorcycle (e.g. Bell)
