So I have been gifted some money unexpectedly, and would like to splurge and get myself a lovely handbag. I buy very little for myself so am very excited at the prospect! I already have - and treasure - a LV summer bag and a mulberry small going out bag.
I'm happy to spend £1-£1.5k as a real treat. So if it were you which bag would you go for?

Sigh there are so many bags that I want.

I am coveting a red one for winter.

over40andpregnant · 15/09/2017 23:01

Mulberry have got some lovely new ones in my opinion
And I always think they are classic

How exciting to treat yourself

Puffpaw · 15/09/2017 23:07

vima you are so wrong, only Birkin in croc will really do for an everyday bag.

mumoffour1716154 · 15/09/2017 23:13

Just had a nosy on Harvey Nichols website and wound love this bag

Puff but it's lasted so well since her 19th bday (last year) it's def worth the extra pennies.

Btw Vima I'm so envious of the Hermes. Which colour did you get? Please have a vibrant one (I want to live vicariously)

chancerprancer · 15/09/2017 23:29

I probably shouldn't be on this thread....., just saw it on active convos.

Just really curious how you could enjoy using something so pricey, I would feel constantly worried about ruining it!

To be clear it's not that I can't perceive ever having the cash for this but that regardless of the amount of money I had it just would feel too self indulgent and excessive.

DeadButDelicious · 15/09/2017 23:31

I've always liked Lulu Guinness. And Alexander McQueen.

cabbages exactly, the perfect everyday bag, a birkin in croc goes with anything and it will last forever.
Hope we get to see a pic. I like electric blue.

Puffpaw · 15/09/2017 23:42

Also I'm sorry to be a downer but I think coach is going to go the way of michael kors.

TheDowagerCuntess · 16/09/2017 01:15

But you appreciate others feel differently about things.

I don't worry about ruining my bags. I never put them on the ground, for example, so they don't come to any harm.

SlideAway82 · 16/09/2017 01:31

My ultimate dream bag would be the LV Neverfull (the largest one!). It's literally a thing of beauty. One can dream! Happy bag shopping.....I'm extremely jealous!

littlecabbages · 16/09/2017 07:58

Dowager I also, never, put my bag on the ground - but only since I met DH. He was so shocked when he saw me do it at first, apparently it's a superstition where he is from that you won't get any money in it if u leave it on the ground. Lol.
I'm so used to it now though, sometimes my bag will even have its own chair at a restaurant haha

ElspethFlashman · 16/09/2017 08:05

Just to be an enabler, Hill and Friends have a 20% off code this weekend - H&FBDAY.

I love their bags but you do have to like their smiley face motif, which isn't for everyone. And they're a new brand, so remains to be seen if they'll be future classics.

annieannietomjoe · 16/09/2017 08:22

Personally i would go for a Jerome Dreyfuss - some amazing bags and not as common as some of the other brands - happy bag shopping!

MrsMoastyToasty · 16/09/2017 08:27

I'm with chancer . £1k to me is over a months mortgage payment.

I actually went to a job interview at Mulberry HQ and had a tour around the site. They're made in a factory, just like any other handbag.

LightastheBreeze · 16/09/2017 08:57

Since you have a summer bag and going out bag, I would buy a nice bigger general wear bag, aren't some of the Mulberry ones quite big.

I don't know why people always think that money should always be spent on something worthy, I remember the 'bench' thread well Grin

MartinRohdesBellybuttonFluff · 16/09/2017 09:07

I'm very drawn to Aspinal of London bags. Here's a beautiful red one I lust over (no chance, but I can dream)!

Some photos attached to share my lust with you!

I love the Aspinal bags, very chic. I also like Jerome Dreyfuss bags - as a PP said, you don't see them everywhere and they are very practical- some even have a little torch so you can gaze into the recesses of your bag when searching for lippy/Oyster card/specs! You will also get a bit of change from 1k, maybe even enough to buy a matching wallet. I would not buy anything from YSL (quality nothing to write home about) or Gucci. Both brands too trendy at mo, some bags completely ubiquitous (Gucci Disco, I'm looking at you) and the bags will date. If I wanted something on trend I would go for Fendi. But with my sensible capsule wardrobe head on, I would go for the Louis Vuitton Speedy Bandouliere. Roomy, practical, reasonably weather-proof, great for everyday and for travel. And it won't date!

MaisieDotes · 16/09/2017 09:28

Why people bother to cats bum on threads like this amazes me

Using cats bum as a verb Shock Grin

OP, I am out of the loop these days but I will say that Coach bags are only ok. I have two, they are fine but not "investment" type bags/ ones that will last. I kind of agree with whoever said they are going the way of MK.

If I had your budget I would buy a really decent bag and not waste time on the mid-range stuff like Coach.

FrankyStein · 16/09/2017 09:34

See I disagree Maisie (respectfully Grin)

I have Mulberry, Coach and LK Bennett. My Coach bags are nicer than my Mulberry ones but my favourites are my LK Bennetts. The quality is definitely there in the feel of the leather

I think I'd love a Chanel but they're very spendy. About £400/500 seems comfortable for me once a year or so.

Flushedwithsomething · 16/09/2017 09:38

Gosh so many mean people! OP I hope you buy something beautiful and enjoy it every day.

Maybe my Coach bags were just bad buys, franky, - I know at least one of them was a sale purchase and is a very impractical pale colour (got v. v. scuffed at corners almost immediately Sad )

Apart from that issue it's the hardware on my Coach bags that annoys me a bit, I find it slightly flimsy, especially the bit that joins the handles to the bag itself. I remember pointing out to the salesperson in the Coach concession that it looked like a weak spot and he said "well... unless you're going to be carrying rocks around I think you'll be fine". I laughed at the time but now (since having DC3) I think: what if I do want to carry a lot of heavy things? Certainly my Marc Jacobs bag would carry as many rocks as I could fit in it, there's no way the handle would come off, it's just too sturdy.

But it's entirely possible that I just chose unwisely for my needs. Wouldn't be the first time (or the last Grin )

mscongeniality · 16/09/2017 10:18

I love the Chloe Nile! I got the half moon version and I'm so happy with it :) the classic might be more practical though!

mscongeniality · 16/09/2017 10:18

My fav classic is the Prada Galleria, got it about 4 years ago and it still looks good with anything
