£1k ish on handbag

So I have been gifted some money unexpectedly, and would like to splurge and get myself a lovely handbag. I buy very little for myself so am very excited at the prospect! I already have - and treasure - a LV summer bag and a mulberry small going out bag.
I'm happy to spend £1-£1.5k as a real treat. So if it were you which bag would you go for?

Would have a day out at Cheshire Oaks if you're in/near the North West; the mulberry shop is great. I have several Blush but I think I've only bought 2/3 at full price.

The December/June sales are also good, and if you can time a holiday at an airport with decent shopping at sales time too, that's another good option to maximise your value.

MotherofA · 16/09/2017 10:30

I would definitely get a larger mulberry! Probably the Bayswater .
Personally I would get a loud colour because I love them and most stuff I wear is black, brown, or denim etc .
I feel sorry for the jealous person who tried to correct your grammar. Enjoy the bag Grin

Longislandicetee · 16/09/2017 11:13

OP, I would get the LV Neverfull. Classic day bag, roomy, not too heavy and good all year round.

SallySmiley · 16/09/2017 13:42

I honestly don't know why people bother commenting that they wouldn't spend that money on a bag... good for you, don't spend it.

I've never smoked and the money I've saved in that choice has more than paid for my few lovely handbags.
I used to spend 30-40 on a bag quite frequently that would then need replacement. I'm not actually sure that my more upmarket bags have cost much more than those per wear.
Different strokes for different folks - my MIL would never fathom spending more than a fiver on a bottle of wine and is utterly horrified by my handbags. But spends hundreds on exotic plants for her garden, half of which die anyway! I'd never dream of saying anything - her money, her choices.

Macarena1990 · 16/09/2017 14:55

I wouldn't get a neverfall - so many fakes around and I would be worried about getting handbag dipped. I have a Totally which I use everyday and it is only a little bit smaller but zips up.

I also have an alexa and a Lily too which I love. Have you thought about a Celine? I'm hoping for one to add to my collection..

ElspethFlashman · 16/09/2017 15:07

The OP has a Neverfull already!

Scoose · 16/09/2017 15:19

I love a mulberry bag I've got an over sized Alexa and the standard sized one. I have just got a small Bayswater and I love it it would probably be a bit small for everyday use tho so I would go for the larger Bayswater. I've currently got my eye on the larger sized lily too I just love bags

mrscampbellblackreturns · 16/09/2017 15:25

I love handbags.

In the £1 - £1.5k price range I would also look at Gucci and saint Laurent if you want fashion bag. For more classic then Bottega Veneta.

Or not that far off a chanel woc it that is your thing - actually you are probably about a grand off so ignore that.

I have a Gucci soho disco which is a great bag but some of their newer ones - well I think the leather looks a little plasticky. Also keep an eye on quality if looking at saint Laurent.

If I were you I would head to Selfridges and have a good look round but then go over to Harrods to purchase and get a loyalty card to accrue points.

Have fun and I hope you find a lovely bag.

mrscampbellblackreturns · 16/09/2017 15:26

Oh yes, mulberry lily is a great bag, I also have the zipped Bayswater which is nice.

Fourlittlethings · 16/09/2017 15:28

Choose a bag you love and enjoy it! I wouldn't go for a Coach ... not as your luxury/special purchase. In the last eighteen months or so bought a Mini Chloe Marcie (love it and it gets loads of use but very small so really only fits purse and phone), an oxblood Mulberry Tessie hobo (an absolutely beautiful bag, it makes me smile each time I use it) and, more recently a Coach Edie - it's a great bag, suits my purpose, in some ways well made but then the little Coach tag on a chain fell off for no good reason ... but it doesn't have the luxury feel of a Mulberry, it feels like a nice practical, everyday bag.

Happy bag hunting and please come back and tell us what you choose!

amixedblessing · 16/09/2017 15:28

What second hand sites/ shops sell real pre owned Chanel/ Dior/ LV bags ?

HollyBollyBooBoo · 16/09/2017 15:30

Somebody might have said it already, but on another thread someone recommended the pawnbrokers website off of Posh Porn tv show. They had some amazing 2nd hand handbags, worth a look?!

DereksGotATail · 16/09/2017 15:38

Why do bag threads always go tits up?
I love looking at all the links even though this sort of bag is well out of my budget.
Enjoy your purchase OP.

PNGirl · 16/09/2017 15:42

I have a bit of a thing for the Loewe Puzzle.

I had a grand to spend in 2013 and I wanted a Mulberry so went to Shepton Mallet and got a printed oak Bayswater for £626. I'd do the same again I think; I still think it's lovely.

PNGirl · 16/09/2017 15:43

For second hand I had a good experience with labelsmostwanted.co.uk!

WillowWeeping · 16/09/2017 15:44

Celina belt bag for ever day. Perfect

WillowWeeping · 16/09/2017 15:44

Celine

KickAssAngel · 16/09/2017 16:03

Do you get Shinola in the UK?

lovely bags

We have a store near us (US) and the leather is so lovely that I go in sometimes just to stroke the goods.

Do all the high end suppliers repair bags? A friend of mine has a Coach bag and when something went wrong with the strap Coach fixed it, although it was abut 3 years old. Free of charge. They really do give a lifetime warranty, at least in the US.

FunkinEll · 16/09/2017 16:18

I'd go for an Anya Hindmarch Vere Satchel Here but I don't know what colour I'd have.

traingal · 17/09/2017 20:52

I'm just loving all these suggestions. Thinking what I really need now is to win the lottery so I can get several...

Thanks so much all. Will def update when I've decided, although in all honesty will prob be a month or so as I'm very indecisive...

Whatever you buy please update, would love to see what you choose

JoJoSM2 · 18/09/2017 09:06

I'd probably go with something less ubiquitous. Perhaps a funky Dolce and Gabbana number.
