£1k ish on handbag

So I have been gifted some money unexpectedly, and would like to splurge and get myself a lovely handbag. I buy very little for myself so am very excited at the prospect! I already have - and treasure - a LV summer bag and a mulberry small going out bag.
I'm happy to spend £1-£1.5k as a real treat. So if it were you which bag would you go for?

Oh god Anya has gone so wrong lately. I love my Belvedere from a few years ago but I don't think I'd buy anything from her atm.

Mulberry, I still have a lot more time for them. A lot of the newer designs are a little much for me but the classics are good. I just got a small new Bayswater and it's lovely. Next on the list is the Lily or the Darley, I think. And the oak Tyndale is nice too.

traingal · 15/09/2017 21:35

Thanks so much everyone. Love so many of them...

Holger you know when the mulberry sale usually is?

I have an embarrassing number of Coach bags. The quality is excellent and they're not too expensive. I think Mulberry are overpriced and not particularly well made, although I do like some of their styles. I also had a lovely Fossil bag that had to be thrown out when the Shitten decided to pee on it.

HolgerDanske · 15/09/2017 21:38

Boxing Day is the next one. Then usually in June/July.

But if you're near York you could also try the Mulberry shop there. They carry models from previous seasons for much more agreeable prices. Or there's Bicester for the outlet shop, or the factory shop in Somerset, and maybe even more, those are just the three that I know of.

"It's generally jealousy as what else could it be?" I find this attitude really odd.
Plenty of reasons why someone might be a bit astounded that someone would consider spending a grand on a handbag apart from jealousy. I wouldn't be jealous as I wouldn't desire a handbag that cost that much.
Nothing wrong with wanting a decent handbag, but you don't have to spend a grand to get one. Ridiculously expensive handbags smack of a rather tacky ostentatious display, to me. Not saying OP is wanting one for that reason however.

splendide · 15/09/2017 21:42

I love the one in puff paw's first link. I'd get grey.

SealSong · 15/09/2017 21:43

That said, I hope the OP finds something she likes, and treasures it for years to come Smile

LoyaltyAndLobster · 15/09/2017 21:50

Hey OP I would go for the LV ALMA PM (Damier Ebene Canvas) I recently treated myself to the LV Josh which I regret, I wish I would have gotten this one instead Sad

Oh. Fuck. Off.

Allwashedup · 15/09/2017 21:54

Valentino or Longchamp both worth a look.

SallySmiley · 15/09/2017 21:55

I was coming on to say I'd choose a Chloe 'Drew' but littlecabbages beat me to it. I really, really want one of those.

queenmortificado completely agree about the prices of mulberrys now. My first Bayswater was £840 I think. But it was ten years ago. Recently (ish) retired and replaced with a oxblood one which I love and would also recommend.
I'd only buy another uk made mulberry and even then I don't think they're quite as good as they used to be. I've not found a suitable replacement brand though.

LeggyMeggy · 15/09/2017 21:56

Have you looked at Hill & Friends? Emma Hill, ex Mulberry so similar feel but (marginally) less ££. Leather is gorgeous.

Other than that, get thee to Bicester and have fun.

FrankyStein · 15/09/2017 22:02

Seal - you've just confirmed it

Thank you splendide
The givenchy Antigona is now following me around the internet. I love it! It might fall in my shopping basket, and one of the cats might tread on the buy button by mistake? Is that pawsable? Hmmmm?

36plusandtrying · 15/09/2017 22:15

I'd go personalised LV ! How exciting, happy spending x

Viviennemary · 15/09/2017 22:21

I don't think I could spend that much on a bag. Not saying OP shouldn't if that's what she really wants and has everything else she wants. But you could get a really nice bag for a lot less than £1.5K and still have lots of money left for other treats.

HolgerDanske · 15/09/2017 22:26

Then it's lucky that it's OP who's looking a spending it, isn't it...

And I'm sure if she wanted something else more than she wants a fabulous bag she wouldn't be here asking for suggestions of bags.

QueenMortificado · 15/09/2017 22:28

WOW GROUNDBREAKING ADVICE WHICH NO ONE ELSE HAS EVER THOUGHT OF THANKS SO MUCH!!!

TheDowagerCuntess · 15/09/2017 22:30

But you could get a really nice bag for a lot less than £1.5K and still have lots of money left for other treats.

But that wouldn't be the bag the OP wants, though.

I have a few nice handbags from back in the days of double income and no kids.

They're gorgeous and don't need replacing any decade soon. I have no desire or need to go out and buy a bag for 'a lot less', and I'm guessing the OP probably feels the same.

Why people bother to cats bum on threads like this amazes me. If you don't get it, click the X in the top right corner, and find a thread that does interest you.

The OP has the money to spend, and wants to spend it on a decent handbag.

Monkeymonstermum · 15/09/2017 22:31

Cheshire Oaks have a Mulberry outlet too. I think the Bicester one used to have higher prices than the others (lots of tourists come on coaches from Heathrow).
When the sales are on, the outlets occasionally have some up to 70% off RRP! Usually the more high fashion/colourful ones but some amazing bargains. Think I'd struggle to justify buying a Mulberry full price now without at least looking at the outlets first (well I have children now so I'd just struggle to buy one full stop)!
Have fun!
I will follow this thread and live vicariously....

Handbag junkie here too and I'm lucky enough to work in the industry so I've collected a lot of bags over the years (to DH's horror).

In your price bracket I'd be looking at
Chloe
Gucci
Saint Laurent

If you can get to Bicester, a good sale or duty free, I'd also look at Celine, McQueen and Bottega Veneta.

I would steer away from Mulberry as I think the quality has really diminished although prices have gone up. Plus they are very popular so you see so many of them.

Happy shopping!

Justfivemoreminutesplease · 15/09/2017 22:43

I'm also being followed round the Internet by lots of adverts for handbags from Matches so thank you OP as it is very tempting.... and cats bum face to all the detractors......Wink
I think the one that has stood out for me here of all the suggestions is the red Gucci bag, but it really depends upon what the OP is wanting her new handbag for. I have a red Chanel that comes out on special nights out and I must say it's one of my favourite bags and I would never have previously thought of buying red.

Hmm

She wants an higher end bag, she didn't mention anything about "other treats"

littlecabbages · 15/09/2017 22:49

Vima OP's budget is £1k, £1.5k at a push.

..... a jumbo Chanel isn't going to make the cut!
