What's the best beauty tip you have that works?

Just a general question really. I want to know if I'm missing out on any untapped Gold Standard beauty techniques!

The best tip I have currently is to run a little translucent powder through your brows if they look a bit fierce. Settles them right down. Also "Eyebrows are sisters, not twins."

Balloon: A dab of ordinary toothpaste will see off a spot overnight. It's also good for lifting out small splinters too.

Fliss baking or cooking just involves placing liberal amounts of powder under your eyes and letting it come to body temp over 5-10 min and 'set' your makeup before brushing it off.

It really works, I avoided using concealers/correctors under the eyes before as they would crease badly on me but since doing this I use correctors and a concealer and my undereye area looks great for hours. I use a beauty blender to pack the powder on then do my brows while I wait for it to set. Check out YouTube videos too to see the technique in action Smile

Botox

PugwallsSummer · 29/04/2017 23:35

I'm going to give that a try tomorrow mowglik Thanks for sharing!

Hairq · 30/04/2017 00:03

How does baking not make creases and fine lines look worse though? Anything powdery on my face makes them really stand out in me even though my skin looks quite young for my age.

littlemissneela · 30/04/2017 00:25

The only time my hair sees a comb is when its got conditioner on it and I then use a wide tooth comb to get out any loose hair. If I comb my hair when its dry, it just goes super frizzy.

mowglik · 30/04/2017 02:17

Hope it works for you pugwall, hairq, I thought the same but I think allowing the powder to come to body temp allows it to set somehow, and when you brush the excess away it really doesn't look cakey - try it, nothing to lose!

VegasJuice · 30/04/2017 02:23

The best way to feel beautiful? Ignore all the shit peddled to us by cosmetic companies who want to make us feel rubbish and sell us their products. Your face? It's gorgeous just as it is.

Amy345 · 30/04/2017 12:21

Opt for natural beauty products as opposed to the ones packed with nasty chemicals and use a facial oil after cleansing at night to add a glow to your skin (I have oily skin so have to use a balancing oil but still works well).

At my relatively advanced age, the most value add I get for the least effort is to draw in my eyebrows. Age makes the eyebrow hairs thinner and less sparse.

An eyebrow pencil works miracles to frame the face and wake it up.

blueshoes · 30/04/2017 13:43

A smile is the best facelift (for those jowls).

MaQueen · 30/04/2017 13:44

I have tight-lined my eyes today + done mascara-stamping (where you really work the mascara brush into the roots of your eyelashes) and it really makes a difference. It's subtle, but really makes your eyes pop and gives them an intensity.

hollieberrie · 30/04/2017 15:50

Yes MaQueen Grin. Pleased its worked for you. Tightlining has totally changed my everyday look. Off to check out mascara stamping...

Truckingalong · 30/04/2017 16:05

Tightlining is NOT lining the watery bit of the upper eye. It's lining the very base/root of the lashes, typically from underneath. If you do it in the upper water line, it just comes off.

hollieberrie · 30/04/2017 16:41

Yes agreed, its not the waterline. Its dotting in between the lash roots with eyeliner or kohl pencil. I never do my waterlines.

Bahhhhhumbug · 30/04/2017 16:48

Drink plenty of water it honestly makes a noticeable difference to my skin and it looks plumper and fresher . If l don't drink enough skin looks sluggish and older Also has the bonus of stopping you craving snacks so much as you don't feel so constantly hungry ( apparently thirst is often mistaken by our bodies for hunger )

'it's the fucking bomb diggity'

My new favourite phrase Grin

HappyAxolotl · 30/04/2017 17:34

I have heard that regularly sucking on sugar-free lollies firms up the muscles in the cheeks and can sculpt your face. I haven't tried it though as I'm not keen on lollies.

And talking of putting things in your mouth, the best beauty and overall health tip ever has to be kicking the fags. Or not having started smoking! Smokers seem to be able to get away with it until about mid-40s then they get a dull look to their skin & hair, like all the years of abuse catch up.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 30/04/2017 17:47

Blow jobs'll do that too Wink

HappyAxolotl · 30/04/2017 17:52

I had heard that the lolly sucking supposedly improved skills in that area as well but I wasn't going to say that!

I knew fine well that someone else would just have to though. I ain't quite that innocent!

Don't wash your face in the morning
That's basically leaving all the sweat and dead skin cells on your face on to which you are then going to put fresh creams and make up
No,no,no.
Cleanse skin every morning and double cleanse at night

I agree! I had horrible spots through my twenties which I thought were hormonal. Turns out it was because I wasn't washing my face properly in the morning, only realised when I was THIRTY TWO 😑

Tantpoke · 30/04/2017 20:42

A decent primer means your foundation stays on all day long and that you can wear cheaper foundation for days when you want cover but not waste the decent stuff. But always dust with a very sheer translucent powder.
