What's the best beauty tip you have that works?

Just a general question really. I want to know if I'm missing out on any untapped Gold Standard beauty techniques!

The best tip I have currently is to run a little translucent powder through your brows if they look a bit fierce. Settles them right down. Also "Eyebrows are sisters, not twins."

For those people who wear fake lashes....
Which brand/style do you recommend for day wear?I went to Superdrug recently and they had hundreds,I didn't have a clue which ones to choose.

mowglik · 29/04/2017 03:30

For those who have oily skin: powder under foundation topped with powder on the t zone makes your foundation last much longer

Again for oily eyelids/longer lasting eyeliner - use smudgy kohl first then go over the base of the line with liquid eyeliner

Sea salt hair spray gives your hair an extra day before it needs a wash as well as texture and hold

Banana powder under the eyes (after foundation/concealer) helps to neutralise dark shadows

'Baking' method under the eyes gets rid of the pesky foundation/concealer creases you get after a while

Use a beauty blender for almost everything - foundation, concealer, powder, bronzer, blusher and highlighter. Afterwards spray with a fix type spray and push it all in with a beauty blender again

Great thread.
For me
Using pixi glow every day helps as does v expensive Sunday Riley Luna oil. Also really like a moss green eye brow pen which fills in any gaps and looks completely natural (I hate caterpillar eyebrows). Double cleansing rather than wipes and spf moisturiser every day, thankfully the one I think is great is 3.99 from Nivea. Also love the Christian Dior Lip glow and have bought for friends who all love it as well. It Is fab.

HappyAxolotl · 29/04/2017 06:39

Yellow and orange concealers cover up dark undereyes brilliantly.

Go light on the foundation. The super-perfect skin look that is trendy now sometimes looks a bit Uncanny Valley - like it isn't quite real human skin!

A little bit of light contouring can look amazing. Highlighter on the cheekbones and bronzer underneath, all blended in well. Not the full on Kardashian face but just playing on what nature gave you.

Sunscreen! Get a light, non-claggy-feeling facial one and wear the stuff. Neutrogena Dry Touch is great. And a lot of the Korean foundations and BBs have high SPF included.

Get decent brushes. Revolution's are fab and about £3 each. I got a nice one out of Wilko as well. Learn to blend and you'll never look back.

Above all: have some fun experimenting with makeup. It is adult face paint at the end of the day.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 29/04/2017 07:22

Ooh yes that Dior lip glow is the business!

Facial wipes are good for a night away but don't use all the time. They don't cleanse properly. Use a good cleanser and a hot cloth. Save money by buying a pack of baby muslins and cut up.

KatyBerry · 29/04/2017 07:43

Start with eye cream in your 20s and always moisture your neck as well as face

ferriswheel · 29/04/2017 08:21

Drink 3 litres of water a day.

BalloonSlayer · 29/04/2017 08:26

margaritasbythesea do you mean ordinary blister plasters, or have they got something special on them.

My top tip is related, for a ghastly spot, cover it with a bit of face pack and leave overnight. It draws out the gunk. It's hard to find tubes of face pack, (rather than opening a sachet) but they are available.

But I fancy having a go of the blister plaster idea.

littlewoollypervert · 29/04/2017 09:37

Remember those microfibre cloths that were about twenty quid a while ago? I use three for a euro ones from Lidl to oil cleanse my face. Exactly the same IMO. People keep asking me where I get my foundation since I started using them as my skin is so smooth.

SuperFlyHigh · 29/04/2017 11:30

Balloon Mudd do a tube face pack which you can screw lid back on after using it. It's sort of a squidgy packet if that makes sense.

Also I think it's called "Good Things" (in Boots) with purple or pink writing with flowers in tube, they also do a tube face pack in a rigid tube.

CurlieSue · 29/04/2017 12:57

Mine is taking pregnancy vitamins for strong, healthy nails

EleanorRigbysNeice · 29/04/2017 13:15

But Ferris, if I drank that much water, I'd never be out of the bathroom 😳

margaritasbythesea · 29/04/2017 17:30

Balloon - yes just normal ones. I think you can get tiny ones made for spots but I just cut one up. If the spot is open it works amazingly. If not, it seems to keep it at bay somehow.

luckycatclover · 29/04/2017 17:35

Colour correcting - the small NYX CC palette has a peach shade that transforms the dead grey skin all around eyes into someone who looks alive again.

Body Shop Vitamin E eye cream for under eyes too. I used to get horrible big creases when I put concealer/setting powder on my dark under eyes, it stopped within a few days.

Niminy · 29/04/2017 17:37

Drinking 3 litres of water a day is completely unnecessary. 5-6 glasses is plenty - including the water in your food. It's a health myth that's been debunked loads of times.

ethanrayne · 29/04/2017 17:38

Great thread!

ElspethFlashman · 29/04/2017 18:18

Oh yes I have a NYX colour corrector for under the eyes and it's transformative. I don't have the palette just a single one. They have lots of different shades, I use Fair. Much more forgiving than the Bobbi Brown one - double the price and showed off wrinkles I didn't know I had!

(Tbh most days I just use the corrector under my eyes and nothing else, that's how much of a difference it makes)

CestLaVie1975 · 29/04/2017 19:15

White deodorant marks on black clothes. Use a pair of black opaque tights to rub the mark off, comes off like a dream. I always keep a spare popsock in my bag for those times (changing at the gym, clothes shopping). Also another deodorant one. I highly recommend Sanex roll-on the pink one, leaves no white marks.

I've also found a new body scrub in Boots called Grounded. Made of coffee granules. It's very messy so best to do it in the bath but it's the softness my skin has felt in a long time. Great find and highly recommended.

Destinysdaughter · 29/04/2017 19:31

Stay out of the Sun! I'm 52 and definitely look a lot younger because I didn't sunbathe when I was younger, as my skin never went brown. Hated it at the time but it was a blessing in disguise.

Also eating healthy fats is good for your skin, avocado, nuts and fish, plump your skin up from the inside!

margaritasbythesea · 29/04/2017 20:27

I used to wash my skin with real used coffee grounds once a week. It makes your skin feel amazing - like baby skin.Someone told me it clogs drains though so I don't do it any more. I have been waitng for it to tale off as a cosmetic ingredient. It really is amazing.

You do have to clean the bath afterwards though.

FuckingHateRats · 29/04/2017 21:12

This is a brilliant thread!

MrsWOLF1 · 29/04/2017 21:14

Another eyelash perm fan ,also get them tinted .I can't get on with threading ,so still have brows waxed and tinted .

FlissMumsnet · 29/04/2017 21:57

Mowglik, i'm fascinated by your tip,

"Baking' method under the eyes gets rid of the pesky foundation/concealer creases you get after a while"

Do let me in on the secret, what's the baking method? Smile

blackcherries · 29/04/2017 22:23

seconding the oil cleanser esp for oily skin. DHC oil or something like Pure Melt. Wouldn't go back to a foaming cleanser if you paid me!

that and acid toning every so often.

would love to get my eyelashes permed but too chicken!
