What's the best beauty tip you have that works?

Just a general question really. I want to know if I'm missing out on any untapped Gold Standard beauty techniques!

The best tip I have currently is to run a little translucent powder through your brows if they look a bit fierce. Settles them right down. Also "Eyebrows are sisters, not twins."

Neither did I nightsky [wails and shakes fist at the sky]

toffeeboffin · 01/05/2017 22:33

I think I'll try the lemon thing, someone else was raving about it on another thread.

Tell you another thing too, Nivea blue moisturiser is great : I put it on straight after showering and it really smoothes out my wrinkles.

margaritasbythesea · 02/05/2017 06:13

Oh! I meant to do the lemon thing this morning. Forgot and had a huge mug of tea.

Chaby · 02/05/2017 06:19

Floated I tried that tip this morning when I sneezed just after applying mascara, worked a treat!

CherylVole · 02/05/2017 06:25

Hand cream works as well as serum on dry hair

CherylVole · 02/05/2017 06:27

God. The tedious water myth again. It's bad science girls.

diodati · 02/05/2017 06:28

I have some!

Wear sunscreen SPF 30 from March to October
Always remove your makeup before bed
Exfoliate & moisturise
Keep your teeth clean
Don't over pluck eyebrows & get rid of dark facial hair.

Browtox · 02/05/2017 06:29

The best tip ever was Botox. It makes everything look younger and fresher

Eyelash extensions are good. Especially if you like a no make up look

Blinkyblink · 02/05/2017 06:34

Moisturise your neck religiously.

No point in having beautiful skin on your face of your neck is wrinkly

diodati · 02/05/2017 06:49

My favourite beauty product is Advanced Night Repair. I started using it every night in my 40s. I haven't been able to buy any recently (very expensive) & it shows.

Moisturisers are very important too. Basic (cheap) ones do the job.

greyffinch · 02/05/2017 06:56

I find the "drink water for clear skin" line that gets trotted out very wide of the mark. Last year I suddenly had terrible crater-like spots. No change to diet / water consumption / cleaning routine or anything else. It was clearly hormone related. I took a course of Isotretinoin (bit for the faint-hearted) and the spots cleared up. Water was not the answer.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 02/05/2017 07:13

I spray Serozinc over my make up to set everything in place. Works a treat.

I had Acne as a teenager then a few years ago I started getting massive spots again. Really bad. The only thing that sorted my skin was dermalogica. Expensive but well worth it.

FloatedWide · 02/05/2017 11:30

Chaby yes it's great for that and for those accidental mascara wand eye jabs!

OutToGetYou · 02/05/2017 14:07

CherylVole "God. The tedious water myth again. It's bad science girls."

Are you sure, because someone else said it was 'basic biology' that she was stunned her work colleagues didn't know but once she had explained it, they understood (or pretended to so she would stop talking nonsense).

It does my head in that this is trotted out all the time. According to the water gurus I should be dead, as I drink virtually none.

Rednailsandnaeknickers · 02/05/2017 15:47

Outtogetyou it was me that said that and I didn't say I spoke to work colleagues about it (implying I'm prattling on in an office to disinterested people) I said I spoke about it "in my work" i.e. My role as I'm involved in a Health business. I have yet to read anything that will convince me that drinking minimum amounts of water is better than drinking plenty. Hydration tests have shown people of all ages and health conditions have more energy, better concentration, better digestion, etc when drinking minimum 2 litres per day.
Another Pp mentioned needing treatment for hormonal acne etc - again, water is not a magic cure all and I never claimed it to be, if you need medical treatment of course you need it, but by keeping the water uptake up it allows your kidneys to do their job more effectively of cleansing your blood and therefore your entire internal system which is oxygenated and fed by the blood carrying the nutrients around. More basic biology.

LambChopsMcGee · 02/05/2017 16:09

Drinking plenty of water makes me feel awake and healthy and my skin is nice...but there are disadvantages, esp if you've recently had a baby and don't have great bladder control! My women's health physio has told me to cut down from my 3 litres or so level!

Niminy · 02/05/2017 16:25

Hydration tests have shown people of all ages and health conditions have more energy, better concentration, better digestion, etc when drinking minimum 2 litres per day.

That is cod science! Who did these hydration tests? Beauty companies? If you drink more your kidneys simply work harder. Also the water that is in your food counts towards the water you drink. As does tea and coffee.

CherylVole · 02/05/2017 20:05

i have GREAT skin. I drink three cups of coffee, a can of coke and two glasses of wine a day

LivLemler · 02/05/2017 20:08

I always felt the water thing was a load of rubbish (even though I do drink a load myself!) and paid little heed.

Then FIL had prostate cancer treatment last year (he's grand now) had to drink much more than he would usually do for his daily radiotherapy treatment. He looked better than at any time in the fifteen years I've known him! His skin looked brighter and plumper. So I'm continuing with the water and sticking with my anecdata and being very unlike my usual scientific self.

CherylVole · 02/05/2017 20:11

ha ha!

KatyBerry · 03/05/2017 07:43

Niminy's point is a good one. For professional reasons , I'm currently researching scientific verification of products . Now, you can go to academic institutions, see if they're interested, await funding (or part fund) and then wait for the appropriate slot for space/ time to become available.
Or you can go to one of the many bio marketing companies and pay them a few grand more to get the results you want them to.
Guess what all the beauty companies do? (Those who don't have their own labs of paid employees in whose interest it is to prove what sells)

LadyOfTheCanyon · 03/05/2017 07:59

I fell asleep with my make up on last night. damn you alcoholSurveying the carnage this morning, my eye make up looked perfect; just the right amount of sleepy/smudginess that I can never get right when applying it.
So another great tip -ladle on the mascara and then go and get pissed. Wine

I never knew water was so controversial 😂

echt · 03/05/2017 10:13

When I went to a pelvic floor clinic, they specifically advised against the drink tons of water bollocks. The research on drink 'til you drop was funded by Volvic/Evian/fill in whatever interested party you wish. Kind of thing.
