What's the best beauty tip you have that works?

Just a general question really. I want to know if I'm missing out on any untapped Gold Standard beauty techniques!

The best tip I have currently is to run a little translucent powder through your brows if they look a bit fierce. Settles them right down. Also "Eyebrows are sisters, not twins."

Niminy Drinking 3 litres of water a day is completely unnecessary. 5-6 glasses is plenty - including the water in your food. It's a health myth that's been debunked loads of times.

Yes I'm sure that the MINIMUM a human body actually NEEDS is 5/6 glasses ie to keep liver and kidneys working, to process food in the gut and prevent major constipation etc.

But if you drink MORE than is needed for the essential organs function THEN your body uses the extra to firstly flush out lots of stored toxins in muscle fibres etc - hence the excessive peeing when you first up your water intake but this is temporary because once your body realises the water is still coming in, it can then adjust to put the extra water out to less "vital" functions and extremities i.e. skin, hair and nails!! The whole POINT of drinking more is so that your body uses the excess to plump up skin etc AFTER dealing with the vital functions.

I'm always amazed how many people don't know this basic biology when I talk about it in my work and then they have a Ooh! Penny drop moment Grin

M&S mascara correction buds are brilliant- cotton bud filled with eye make up remover with snap off top on one end which sends the liquid to the top of the bud. Great for eye make up mishaps.
Sadly I am now allergic to the remover ( I am allergic to most eye stuff Sad) but for those that aren't, they are brilliant.

SuperFlyHigh · 01/05/2017 11:31

holly I'm not sure I'd like those buds either but why don't you just dip your own cotton buds in eye makeup remover and use it that way?

ImLadybird · 01/05/2017 11:53

I don't get the 'Eyebrows are sisters, not twins' quote. Could someone explain?

LadyOfTheCanyon · 01/05/2017 11:56

Ladybird I take it to mean that when filling in/grooming eyebrows to let them have a modicum of uniformity so that they look related in shape and size, but not the weird scouse brow mirror image painted-on-to-look-identical look that is becoming the norm.
Well groomed and shaped eyebrows really lift the face.

The M&S buds are brilliant. No faff.
I am just allergic to everything Sad

hollyisalovelyname · 01/05/2017 12:16

Does anyone else dislike the dark eyebrow look that's in now ?
I feel you are looking at the eyebrow and not the lovely eyes themselves iykwim?
The 'here's my eyebrows, the rest of my face comes after' look.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 01/05/2017 13:08

It's very easy to go overboard though Holly voice of bitter experience.
I've learned to do my brows in good natural daylight where possible, and if artificial light then to go as light handed as possible. There's a woman I see on the train regularly who has such dark, painted on brows that she looks like a children's entertainer of the clown variety. And at the risk of sounding like my Ma, she's such a pretty girl that she doesn't need it. I have to resist the urge to spit on a tissue and scrub at her.

Use anti aging serums/oils/creams on your neck and hands. Better to buy cheaper and be able to do this, than to have glaringly older neck and hands.

FloatedWide · 01/05/2017 15:25

To remove eye make up errors you can also dab a tiny bit of your foundation on to a cotton bud and gently wipe. Works a treat.

LambChopsMcGee · 01/05/2017 16:21

La La I like that idea...my face looks a little younger than my years but my hands... And I fear the ageing neck.

What brands/products do you recommend?

Saggingninja · 01/05/2017 16:40

Squaddielife yes - I agree! Double cleanse at night. I clean first with coconut oil and a clean cloth and then a balm cleanser My skin has never looked better.

No drastic diets - terrible for the elasticity of the skin.
If you have oily skin - don't strip it with harsh cleansers - all this does is make the skin produce more oil. Treat it gently - you would think oil + oily skin = Hello Pizza Face but you'd be wrong.

A drop of oil added to your regular night cream works wonders, especially in winter and with central heating which really strips the skin.

Use a broad spectrum sunscreen. In the UK only protection against UVA is legal so check it covers UVB as well. SPF30 is good. There is very little difference between SPF30 and SPF50

SuperFlyHigh · 01/05/2017 16:47

Holly yes, me too. The eye brows that look like they're drawn on with marker pen?!

They look hilarious and silly, often worn with fake tan, lashes etc.

Benefit counters are great for this look. not a recommendation

Babyblues14 · 01/05/2017 16:50

Last the cold in the shower two minutes before you get out. It tightens your skin, you can actually feel it working. As cold as you can x

Babyblues14 · 01/05/2017 16:50

*blast not last Envy

Saggingninja · 01/05/2017 16:53

For oily eyelids

This is how I get eyemakeup to stay in place:
Wipe over eyes with a mild toner
Add a dot of Milani eye primer
Dust with powder

Works on my super oily eyelids for about eight hours. Smile

MaQueen · 01/05/2017 18:01

I cannot bear the Sharpie-pen eyebrows + false lashes...don't the girls realise they look like a pantomime horse???

On the subject of tight-lining + mascara stamping, I can't believe it's taken me until my mid 40s to discover this trick!!! It's amazing. I have to keep admiring my eyes in the mirror [preens]

KatyBerry · 01/05/2017 18:16

I've started tinting my eyebrows and it makes a wonderful difference. Brown, not black, and just darkens the blondes at the outside edges and gives me good frames. Works far better than tinted lashes ever have

OutToGetYou · 01/05/2017 18:33

I use the left over serum on my elbows, they've never been as smooth as they are these days!

garmsfresh · 01/05/2017 19:14

Every potion and lotion I put on my face , the left over i put on my hands or tops of feet .

MerryMarigold · 01/05/2017 19:29

I swear when I drank warm water with fresh lemon juice every morning (don't eat for 20 mins after), my skin was incredibly soft. I didn't do ANYTHING else differently and every day my skin felt like I'd had 12 hours sleep. Wish I could stick to it, it's miraculous.

OutToGetYou · 01/05/2017 20:11

I can't do the lemon in water thing, it makes my teeth sensitive.

LaLaLolly · 01/05/2017 21:18

Lambchops I'm all about Deciem at the moment

Their NIOD brand is a little more expensive, but The Ordinary is cheap as chips and so far I loved everything I've tried.

In fact, both of my AM and PM regimens are now mostly from The Ordinary.

Korean brands are also very high-tech and generally good. There are a few threads full of recommendations.

Polkadot1974 · 01/05/2017 21:19

Loving these. I've just discovered eyeliner late in the game and oh my! Love it

thenightsky · 01/05/2017 21:52

I didn't realise tight-lining + mascara stamping were a 'thing'. I've been doing that for 30 odd years. Best pencil for this is bourjois.
