What's the best beauty tip you have that works?

Just a general question really. I want to know if I'm missing out on any untapped Gold Standard beauty techniques!

The best tip I have currently is to run a little translucent powder through your brows if they look a bit fierce. Settles them right down. Also "Eyebrows are sisters, not twins."

Give up carbs and eat whole foods. My scaly skin has gone.

ShotsFired · 27/04/2017 15:28

Do your top lashes mascara first. Avoids panda eyes.

Keep your mascara in your armpit/between your thighs while you are gearing up for it as well, softens the gloop.

DurhamDurham · 27/04/2017 15:32

Aspirin face mask once a week without fail to help keep skin clear. I do it while I have a bath and add a few drops of water to 4 dispersible aspirin and apply to clean skin. I leave it on until it goes dry and crunchy and then rinse. My skin has never looked better.

  • Use clear mascara to keep your eyebrows neat and tidy (if you like bigger ones like me and don't get them threaded...they are all my own work 😊)
  • keep cotton buds with you at all times to get rid of black eye bogeys
  • use Revlon liquid eyeliner, they do a felt tip pen brush so much easier to apply
  • put eyeliner on, then your eyeshadow and then go over the eyeliner again, it'll last all day
  • use a metal eyebrow brush to separate your lashes after your mascara, looks amazing (but be careful! It bloody hurts if you scratch your eyeball!)

Change your pillowcase once a fortnight

Yuck. Double yuck. Sorry, but the very thought of sleeping on two week old drool, skin dust and who knows what else almost made me boak.

Great thread though. Keep em coming.

Read the reviews for L'Oreal Lumi, wow it's a real Marmite product!

Sunglasses - I'm very sensitive to sunshine (get migraines) but have noticed this habit has really helped skin around my eyes! Always wear when bright and in pool/sea - as sun reflects off water. Hat in sunshine to protect hair. Always moisturise right down to your decolletage - and bring your foundation/powder/bronzer past the jawline 'tidemark' to avoid The Mask look!

retainertrainer · 27/04/2017 17:12

Don't wash your face in the morning, not even with water if you can avoid it. If you cleanse and moisturise the night before then you don't need to,all you'll be doing is stripping away natural oils.

Just spf and moisturiser is all you need.

StripeyZazie · 27/04/2017 17:12

Condition-wash-condition

Put conditioner on mid length and ends of hair before shampoo.

Turn shampoo into lather on your hands not your hair. Rub lather lightly into roots and canopy, then rinse the suds out through your hair to wash the rest of it.

Condition again.

retainertrainer · 27/04/2017 17:17

Another tip I received from a dermatologist was that once a week you should wash and cleanse your skin then use a facial scrub, pat dry and then apply nothing else for a couple of hours. Your skin will feel tight and dry but this activates the stem cells in the skins surface to replenish the skin cells,

I asked a scientist friend if she thought this could be true and she said she could understand the rationale behind it because stem cells respond to damage the scrubbing action could trigger a response.

ElspethFlashman · 27/04/2017 17:31

No Destiny that's the wrong stuff! That's the foundation but I'm talking about the luminizer in the skinny wee white bottle!

bingohandjob · 27/04/2017 17:37

Cream/powder/cream eg alternate between two and let the cream/lotion/gel formulation have time to 'set' between application of next layer. I put my base layer on, leave it set whilst faffing with hair, then powder, then if I use cream shadow, leave it set for a few minutes (faff with eyebrows) to set then apply eyeshadow. My make-up does not budge -my friends laugh at how it stays put all day, even in heat, rain or dip in the pool and I do not wear heavy make up at all day to day, just light coverage but I really think this makes the difference.

And when I DO go for heavier hand, from loving endless episodes of RuPaul's Drag Race - cooking, baking and more for when you're going full face www.bustle.com/articles/81464-8-drag-queen-makeup-hacks-that-will-change-the-way-you-put-on-your-face-forever

The eyebrow sisters comment I think I first heard in the 80s from Sebastian Latiolais who works out of NYC and has an interesting website. Sebastian himself will do you for $70.

Oh, to be an eyebrow guru to the stars, fabulously camp Smile

As someone with bad acne and eczema I've always hated the "drink water" tip 😅 if only it were that easy...

Anyway another vote for eyebrows are sisters not twins! Although mine are currently looking like cousins

StephenKatz · 27/04/2017 18:34

I'm definitely trying out that eyelash glue tip!!

My skin is mega dry in the summer. When I put my foundation on it pills up on my skin and looks awful. So I started mixing it with my primer first on the back of my hand and the combination just glides on my skin nicely!

zenasfuck · 27/04/2017 18:34

Don't wash your face in the morning ShockShockShock
That's basically leaving all the sweat and dead skin cells on your face on to which you are then going to put fresh creams and make up
No,no,no.
Cleanse skin every morning and double cleanse at night

mayhew · 27/04/2017 18:41

For my old dry face. Exfoliate with a hot cloth and moisturise with almond oil every night. Looks so much better

Ktown · 27/04/2017 19:10

Read the ingredients list: and the first 5 ingredients make up 95% of the product. After that it is filler and frangrance and preservative.
Clear mascara on brows.
Pin point conceal and don't bother with foundation.

hollieberrie · 27/04/2017 19:14

Ooh i love this thread.
My tips are:

  • Acid toning - has really improved my skin.
  • Tightlining eye lashes - I look soooo much more attractive now that I do this every day.
  • Eat low carb when I can - my weight and skin improve dramatically when I do this, also shape of my face - I tend to get a double chin quickly when I'm bigger Blush
  • Get eyebrows threaded and tinted
  • Purple shampoo 1 x weekly on my hair (blonde) - makes colour look more natural
  • Seconding the face base layering tip - I do it the other way round though - translucent powder - foundation - more powder
SweetLuck · 27/04/2017 20:09

To get perfect liquid liner every time... apply any old how, then run over the edge with a spat on damp cotton bud. Smooths out any wobbles. Works a miracle and can't understand why it's not considered standard practise.

Sparkletastic · 27/04/2017 20:18

Use a clean flannel soaked in hot water on your face and neck to remove your cleanser - repeat three times

Studyinghell · 27/04/2017 20:26

If you don't want/need full coverage, sprinkle some power foundation or mineral foundation into morning moisturiser with spf, better than any tinted moisturisers or bb cc creams

RosieLig · 27/04/2017 23:50

Comb conditioner through your hair with a wide-toothed comb. Amazing!

retainertrainer · 28/04/2017 09:10

Zenas-that tip was from an interview with a Hollywood a lister (can't remember which one). I've followed it and it's certainly helped my skin. You really don't need to cleanse morning and night-it's over kill!
