My most favourite is an old battered Jaegar Morgan. It's looking a bit sorry for itself now Sad but it's a lovely bag. It wasn't costly by designer handbag prices but is one of the best made bags I've seen.

And now I need a Hattie Carpet Clutch.

Thanks Honeydragon.

Some fucking awful responses on here. Wish they'd all form a group and sit around their park benches.

Sorry to hear about the IVF OP. Hope you make a great purchase! I've recently bought a ysl wallet in chain. Wanted a Chanel but my budget wouldn't stretch and this will scratch the itch for now.

smudgedlipstick · 22/01/2017 18:57

Givenchy pandora, I don't know why I freaking love them! Am enjoying googling the ones mentioned on here I haven't heard of and lusting over beautiful over my budget bags...

ChishandFips33 · 22/01/2017 19:08

I love a bag thread for this reason - it widens the mind and you don't have to buy one

ellalouise123 · 22/01/2017 19:13

Jesus christ. OP wants a bag for her own (as far as I'm concerned, very understandable) reasons. Stop asking her why! How dare you.

So you wouldn't spend £1300 on a bag? Fine. Bye.

I think I'd probably go Mulberry, I have a couple but they aren't the soft soft large leather ones. Then again I would love something a little bit more different, maybe a Prada. My friend has a LV one which is beautiful but I'm not as fond of the 'obvious' branding.

Whoever said APC half moon - thanks, I'm adding it to my to-buy list right now!

Enjoy your lovely bag OP and I wish you all the best.

FlouncingInAWinterWonderland · 22/01/2017 19:18

The Givenchy Pandora looks like it's missing a handle to me, I'm rather conventional in my dress. It's a lovely understated, everyday use, style.

I have an early Mulberry Bayswater, in brown. I went off brown for a while but its slowly reappearing in my styling and it is a lovely sized bag. It doesn't look overstuffed when it has things in it or under used, when it's not full.

I have a Mulberry Antony in a sort of beige colour. It's a very simple/ classic every day bag. It fits a surprising amount in. It came from the shop in Shepton Mallet, Somerset. We lived locally and I started buying Mulberry before the price hiked. The leathers are lovely and customer service is fantastic. I more recently purchased a matching purse and I still like the personal no pressure service you get. It adds to the pleasure of ownership.

Fabellini · 22/01/2017 19:30

I'd buy this
It's just fabulous - in my opinion - although I fully appreciate that it won't appeal to everyone, and it's probably not what anyone would call classic or understated Grin

ImNotChangingMyUsernameAgain · 22/01/2017 19:40

What will you use it for? For work I love my Celine luggage bag which fits everything including the occasional lever arch file. I have it in plain black: www.celine.com/en/collections/spring/leather-goods/micro-debossed-luggage-handbag-satin-calfskin/180433AOY.07OC

For casual I like Mulberry, Prada and Louis Vouitton.

Longislandicetee · 22/01/2017 19:49

OPFlowers I hid this thread yesterday as I anticipated the arrival of the bag dementors. However, I unhid because of the other thread. Thought you might appreciate some more bag links on your thread Grin

I think this Chloe Faye is beautiful.

A couple of my friends have the Gucci Disco and it seems really versatile.

The Givenchy Antigona is a beautiful beautiful bag. Mine is in cashmere grey and always gets complimented by both men and women when I use it. It's very classic but also quite stiff and structured so I wouldn't use it for going to the shops as you can't just sling it over your shoulder. You have to carry it in the crook of your arm.

I have to say I do love this YSL but don't think my social life is exciting enough to justify it. But I love it.

The Chloe Marcie is a beautiful bag. It's one that is definitely more for casual or smart casual use rather than formal. Big drawback is that while it is gorgeous, it is also heavy. I am petite framed and find it quite heavy. Apparently this version of it is lighter and more manageable.

A friend has this ysl cabas rive gauche and it's lovely. It's quite plain though so she uses it for work.

I think love the Prada double zip tote. Mine has kept it's shape well but my friend, who uses hers more often, hers has become more slouchy. If you're going to get it, then not in its the shape.

I love the Burberry Banner from the outside but not a fan of the the Burberry check peeping through.

Speaking of stiff bags that get slouchy, I am evangelical about the Balenciaga Giant City. It is such a special bag that works for every occasion, casual, smart casual and work. Check it out in the royal blue colour.

The PS1 is a great bag. Beautiful to look at and can be used for work or casual. The link is a small but the medium is much better from a practical perspective.

beargrass · 22/01/2017 19:50

Pls update with what you bought! Love a new bag purchase

babyblabber · 22/01/2017 19:54

Defo a prada

SantaClausMortificado · 22/01/2017 19:54

MN Luxury Bag Supporters Club can any of you help me with my earlier thread here please:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/2823304-Glamorous-Designer-Flying-Travel-Bag-Recommendations-Handbag-Not-Carry-on

ShoutouttoMyEx, dun1urkin and Sauronskitten - thanks. It was the above thread where I was pondering the Givenchy Antigona

I need bag help!

CherryBees · 22/01/2017 19:59

Invest and either source a vintage Chanel 2.55 or put money towards it and buy a brand new one from a Chanel boutique. It's worth the experience as the SA's are fabulous.

Prada - quality is questionable even on the bag I've rarely used
Saint Laurent - apart from sac de jour they're not worth the money.
Mulberry - buy pre loved and have authenticated on purse forum therefore will be able to get two. I recommend medium lily and Bayswater.
Gucci - the Dionysus are incredible.
Louis Vuitton - love vuitton. Their quality and service is exceptional.

PuraVida · 22/01/2017 20:07

A large proenza schouler ps1 in black with nickel hardware

I love a bag. I've had a couple of pricey ones and used them daily for years and years. Cost per wear is negligible. A sound investment from where I'm sat.

Scoose · 22/01/2017 20:12

I love the givenchy antigona I also like balenciaga city or Prada. I'm currently lusting after a mulberry roxette tho

Touchmybum · 22/01/2017 20:30

OMG the amount of sanctimony on this thread is putting me off my dinner!! If you can't afford a good bag, and you don't want one, bog off! Have you no empathy? The OP has been through a horrendously hard time and if she wants to treat herself, well then she damn well should.

Personally, I'd go for a traditional Mulberry. I would love one but atm I couldn't justify it. I will, one day! Or, I'd buy 2 or 3 less expensive bags, like Michael Kors, Coach, Anya Hindmarsh, Marc Jacobs - for instance I love the Coach Edie which are around £400, so you could get two bags and matching purses, but in your shoes, I'd blow the budget and buy a bag I absolutely loved! You will only know what you will love once you go looking.

What kind of half wit is complaining about "hobo" bags - it's a design statement, a particular style of bag - most of the designers do hobo bags! I have several of them!

I am so so sorry about the news you got re your IVF, OP - you go girl and buy whatever goddamn bag you fancy and sod the begrudgers! xx

Ollycat · 22/01/2017 20:35

Just to add a slightly different suggestion to the Mulberry discussion I have a Del Ray - it's discontinued but you can still pick them up.

I adore it - straps long enough to go over your shoulder, zip, roomy enough to put a decent amount of shopping in when you forget a carrier yet still looks fine if you've just got a purse and lippy (I have a Mulberry purse in the same leather) and it has metal studs on the bottom.

NiceCuppaTeaAndASitDown · 22/01/2017 20:42

Chloe Faye or Lexa

I love the Lexa but it's very similar to one I already own so the Faye might win. Both gorgeous though

Longislandicetee · 22/01/2017 20:55

Some more links for you OP:

I agree that the ysl sac du jour is pretty but I have never been convinced by the appearance of the stitching.

Love this Burberry buckle bag

This Loewe flamenco knot bag is gorgeous!

Someone already linked the Celine luggage which I have been lusting after for a while.

Louis Vuitton has a lot of classics. My mil was using this small Alma last week and I thought it was lovely. The Louis Vuitton Neverfull in epi leather is lovely. I have linked the red but the blue is stunning.

crazyspaniellady · 22/01/2017 20:56

I'd love a balenciaga City bag, they're gorgeous and the leather is looovely! It is next on my list, maybe around october time, (I've got a "big birthday" in October) I've just bought a Louis Vuitton Neverfull, it's lovely, and everyone says it's the perfect "me" bag, just have a look about and see what jumps out at you, and please let us know what you go with!

And also I'm sorry that this has happened to you OP Flowers ignore PPs that are saying it's ridiculous etc. Buy all the bags you want with YOUR money!

beanfilledfish · 22/01/2017 20:57

TheoriginalLEM · 22/01/2017 21:00

MyNewHobbyIsGin · 22/01/2017 21:49

Thanks for getting back to bags everyone!

The Chloe Faye is stunning. I'd buy that.

Good luck op, sorry about the circumstances you find yourself in. Armed with all the lovely links provided, go shopping and find something that makes your heart skip a beat.

The Chanel Boy is still the bag of dreams tho!
