chuck I never said anybody wasn't entitled to an opinion, but trying to make out that you have anything you don't need and don't do anything for pleasure, is quite frankly unbelievable.

Unless you are a self-flagellating Trappist monk??

Have you never ever been on a holiday? A meal out? Do your children have any hobbies? How did you source the silver for your 'hand-crafted' ring??

People choose to use their DISPOSABLE income on different things. Who are you to judge???

Your disposable income might be 30p a week. OP's might be £30k a year.

Different strokes and all that

This quite pricey bag is usually my going to the gym and needing a change of clothes etc bag. Blush Sure I could pick up one from Sports Direct for a fiver but I like this one. It's not everyone's style but it is mine.

Equally my everyday handbag was £35 from La Redoute.

I like them both a lot. But you also see what you are paying for in regards to both.

I get that the op wants something a little bit special and has set a budget for doing so ..... any mother item with any other budget it would just be posters helping the op get bang for her buck as it were. Not telling her to buy something else.

Santa, I've also been tempted by the Givenchy Antigona. If you look hard enough, there will probably always be a talentless famous person who owns Bag X or Bag Y.

Reading reviews online, people aren't 100% happy with the zip (difficult to open/close with one hand due to angled shape of bag) and the shoulder strap (too short and non-adjustable)

www.happypursuits.com/givenchy-antigona-review/

But it does have a great silhouette I think.

Sorry it was you wasn't it that said 'So you don't own anything just because you want it but don't actually need it? Holidays? Jewellery? A dishwasher? A smart phone?' so I responded. I am not in the slightest bit frugal, allotment or not. You called me a bullshitter so I responded. And then you did it again. So I responded.

I mentioned that actually, calling a designer bag 'Hobo style' however it was named is crass. It is, it always will be and whoever 'Chloe' is she/they should be ashamed of her/themself/ves.

Not all women crave designer handbags - get over it.

unicornsIlovethem · 22/01/2017 13:37

Of course not all women crave designer handbags, but they don't then go into s thread about designer handbags and piss all over it like a cat marking territory.

clumsyduck · 22/01/2017 13:39

These threads never go well do they . I would never spend 1000+ on a bag however I have no issue with those that do and I would and have happily spend 1000+ On things / holidays that are more my thing but these things are still not necessitys are they .

practicallyperfectmummy · 22/01/2017 13:52

Yes buy yourself a beautiful piece of arm candy bag & enjoy it. Why not?! Just because others wouldn't choose to do that treat yourself. Im sorry to hear about your IVF, why shouldn't you have a lovely distraction of a fab accessorie. I have a few designer bags from before children & when I had a good job. I do love mulberrys quality is still great but they are more understated practical & durable. If I had the larger amount of money of over £1000 I would do this.
•go to London for the day or book an over night & enjoy.
•go to Harrods & marvel at all the amazing pretty bags & see them in person.
•if not Harrods go & look in Gucci, Prada, and luis Vuitton.

This will be far more fun & fulfilling than buying online! Enjoy hope you find a fantastic bag & are very happy together!

catinbooots · 22/01/2017 13:54

I never said all women crave designer bags so I don't understand what I need to 'get over' ?

You deliberately came on to this thread to sneer at OP and others who choose to buy expensive handbags.

Then when challenged you came up with all your 'credentials' as to why you should be allowed to judge.

And taking offence over the term 'hobo' is quite literally, the most bonkers thin I have ever read on MN. And I've read a lot of far-out shit on here Grin

rubybleu · 22/01/2017 14:08

dun1urkin that is my DREAM bag, you lucky thing. I was bitterly disappointed when I discovered the price :) Talking myself into it for my 35th birthday next month...

HoneyDragon · 22/01/2017 14:11

Hobos are traditionally American migrant workers so only get a Chloe Hobo if you commute, op Grin

SingingSilver · 22/01/2017 14:51

Personally I'd look at a Goyard tote.

Whatever you go for, at that price look for a classic shape and colour. That Stella bag you like looks like it could date fast...

Blossomdeary · 22/01/2017 14:57

Spend £30 on a bag and give the rest to Oxfam. You will finish up with a perfectly serviceable bag and a sense of something worthwhile done. You cannot put a price on that.

Cherryskypie · 22/01/2017 14:59

£1270?

GatoradeMeBitch · 22/01/2017 15:08

The OP didn't come to the Style and Beauty board to ask for charity donation ideas deary...

hollyisalovelyname · 22/01/2017 15:09

I think Goyard totes are wildly expensive for a piece of plastic canvas.
At least for that money get leather.

MsGameandWatch · 22/01/2017 15:32

I can't think why some are so arrogant as to think anyone gives a tiny hoot about their negative opinions on expensive bags and the people who buy them yet still they turn up to offer their unasked for opinions on these threads.

ShesAStar · 22/01/2017 15:37

Chloe Drew in intense green. I love the shape and the colour is beautiful. Easy to use as an everyday bag but would look good as a going out bag too.

MsGameandWatch · 22/01/2017 15:39

Can I ask, if one spends this amount of money on a bag, do you treat it better than say a £50 bag from dotty P's or a 5p carrier bag from tesco?

Generally speaking, yes. I have four Mulberry bags and three of them are straight back into their dust bags after every use. But my every day bag - the Effie Satchel in Oak in case you're interested tends to be treated with less care. I'd never put it on the floor or fling it into the car when in a hurry though.

justdontevenfuckingstart · 22/01/2017 15:40

I would never spend that on a bag but I spent that on my dog which I imagine other people would find stupid. We all have different things we love and want. Sorry op for your awful news and I hope you find a lovely bag.

ShesAStar · 22/01/2017 15:44

The last people I'd give my money to is Oxfam! If OP has a nice car should she sell it and get an old banger that gets her from A to B and give the proceeds to Charity? Should she eBay any good make clothes she has and replace with Primark finds and give all the proceeds to Charity? What a stupid notion!

ThoraGruntwhistle · 22/01/2017 15:52

The OP didn't say 'you're only allowed to post if you love expensive bags' though. Starting a thread on here IS asking for people's opinions and it's not arrogant for people to give theirs, even if it doesn't exactly answer the question. They're just saying what they'd spend £1000+ on.

MsGameandWatch · 22/01/2017 15:53

One of the most WTF?! posts I ever read on here was from someone whose in laws wanted to take them to Disney, Florida. She wasn't keen purely because of the location. It was suggested that she politely turn them down and then entreat her in laws to donate the cash they would have spent, to a charity that takes disadvantaged kids on holiday. Seriously is there anyone who would respond with "oh what a fantastic idea I will certainly do that"? Years on I still shake my head and snort thinking about that post.

ArriettyClock1 · 22/01/2017 15:54

I have a Mulberry Bayswater and I love it - so that's what I'd get. And I think you'd have enough left over (they're about £950) to get a wallet too.

MsGameandWatch · 22/01/2017 15:55

It is nasty and arrogant to virtue signal and judge on such a thread though and that is always done in spades on these kinds of threads. As though silly fluffy heads that spend lots of money on a bag are fair game for a sneering at.

ThoraGruntwhistle · 22/01/2017 15:58

Well maybe it is a bit much to say give it to charity, because obviously the OP wants to spend it on a gift for herself. But others have said they'd have a holiday or do their house up or whatever. Not all virtuous or sneery.
