...what would it be, and why?

"I would think seriously about what I could usefully do with my disposable income.".

"a bag? Seriously??"

ChuckSnowballs · 22/01/2017 16:09

I can't think why some are so arrogant as to think anyone gives a tiny hoot about their negative opinions on expensive bags and the people who buy them yet still they turn up to offer their unasked for opinions on these threads.

You know this is an open forum right? And anyone can post?

If the OP only wanted positive opinions, then they need to make that clear in the opening post.

catinbooots · 22/01/2017 16:15

Yep but OP asked for opinions on which bag to buy.

She didn't ask for opinions on what to spend her disposable income on.

That's like someone starting a thread saying - "What colour shall I get my new sofas in?"

and then everyone piling in saying - "I can't believe you'd spend that much on sofas. Give it to charity. Make do with wooden stools"

It ONLY happens on bag threads

Ollycat · 22/01/2017 16:17

ChuckSnowballs but the OP didn't say "if you had £1300 would you spend it in a bag" she specifically asked which bag she should spend the money on - she wasn't inviting opinions as to tge morals of people who buy designer bags, she wasn't asking for debate as to whether it was right / wrong / etc to spend that much on a bag she was specifically inviting opinions on which bag to buy. TBH any opinions offered outside of this were neither asked for or appropriate.

Obv if others wish to start a thread on the morals of buying designer bags they're free to do so.

Cherryskypie · 22/01/2017 16:18

We need new labels. As well as 'lighthearted' we now need 'pious joysuckers need not comment.'

ChishandFips33 · 22/01/2017 16:20

what Ollycat said

sauronskitten · 22/01/2017 16:30

I shudder to think what the comments would be if we were talking about Birkins

PollyPerky · 22/01/2017 16:33

But threads like this always start wars :)

The clue is usually in the subject line Wink

Personally, spending that amount on a bag is, imo, just insane.

I've got £1300 and more, but it's not my 'bag' cache. I just can't see why anyone would see the attraction of a bag selling for £1K+ compared to a bag at £250 -ish. The only difference is the ability to buy one which makes them covetable by some people who want to show off a designer label.

Trollspoopglitter · 22/01/2017 16:40

A lot of the suggested bags are sold as knock offs. Do you have a lovely designer coat? I always assume if I see someone in Zara/miss selfridges type of coat and non-descript shoes but with a stunning, expensive bag - that the bag is a knock off. I'd spend £800 on a coat and £800 on a bag otherwise.

Ollycat · 22/01/2017 16:41

You know I can't believe how mean spirited people are in this thread. The OP has had some monumentally shitty news so has decided to spend some of the money she had saved for ivf on a little pick me up / bit of frivolity to lift her spirits- something many of us have done / would do. Now she wants a bag - others may chose other things but she wants a flipping bag - why do people have to be so horrible? Is this really how you would treat people in real life who have had devestating news? If not treat people on tinternet with the same courtesy as those in real life. I'm genuinely shocked by some people!

PollyPerky · 22/01/2017 16:44

I don't have time to read 8 pages, believe it or not, so if this bag is something to soothe bad news, apologies. And yes, in RL I'd still question that amount on a bag- I have friend who do spend that and I speak my mind!

ChishandFips33 · 22/01/2017 16:48

But it's all relative isn't it - I couldn't bring myself to buy a £250 bag - but I respect that you can/do

That doesn't mean someone else shouldn't spend more on one and therefore they deserve the same respect given to you for spending your budget

The question wasn't whether she should spend that on a bag but which one

I think when splashing that amount it seems sensible to seek opinions on which ones

MsGameandWatch · 22/01/2017 16:51

I have friend who do spend that and I speak my mind!

You mean you're rude and give unasked for opinions. As you are a friend she probably doesn't mind though.

ChishandFips33 · 22/01/2017 16:54

..and if you're going to post its best to read the full thread for perspective - as well as reading the title and sticking to the question

I agree again, Ollycat and it's nothing related to the reasons for the bag specifically, more the lack of respect/support/courtesy like you said

ChuckSnowballs · 22/01/2017 16:59

That's like someone starting a thread saying - "What colour shall I get my new sofas in?"

Yes indeed. And if someone said 'I really like this one, it is in the new 'Foodbank' style' I would also have interjected.

TSSDNCOP · 22/01/2017 17:00

I LOVE bag threads. I have a little bet with myself every time to see how quickly some parade-pisser takes to say "I'd buy a goat/bench/cheap but lovely (contradiction in terms) piece of Primark shite.

OP I would have the Mulberry Maple n Oxblood, and a smaller shoulder bag/cross body with the change. Or maybe a purse. No, a cross body. Or a zipped Bayswater and a key ring.

I have a bench, and goats suck.

ArriettyClock1 · 22/01/2017 17:06

catinbooots, I read your sofa post out to my dh and he laughed out loud!

MN is so flipping sanctimonious these days.

humanfemale · 22/01/2017 17:12

@honeydragon! Where is your carpet bag from? I love it so much!!

catinbooots · 22/01/2017 17:31

but it's all relative isn't it?

Chishandfips has it bang on!!!

For some people £5 is a hell of a lot of money.

For some people £800 is a reasonable amount to spend on a bag.

For someone like Victoria Beckham, owning a collection of Birkins is easily obtainable.

chuck I just laughed so hard at Foodbank sofa - sounds like something you'd get in IKEA

Malermalergoni · 22/01/2017 17:32

Hobo isn't a particularly derogatory term I don't think. The original 'hobos' we're proud to be known as hardworkers I think.

TSSDNCOP · 22/01/2017 17:35

I also have the same bet with the Fails fash spreads. The fash ed will have done her hardest to make a spread on Primarni, or whatever, look less like a pile of shite good and within seconds some joyless twat will come along and bother to type a response that goes "25p for an entire outfit???Outrage!!! do you think we are all Tories and made of money". Cracks me up.

Really sorry about your IVF OP. Been there and it totally blows.

ShoutOutToMyEx · 22/01/2017 17:58

It is nasty and arrogant to virtue signal and judge on such a thread though and that is always done in spades on these kinds of threads. As though silly fluffy heads that spend lots of money on a bag are fair game for a sneering at.

Completely agree

HoneyDragon · 22/01/2017 18:08

@humanfemale

www.carpetbags.co.uk

It was from here.

You get to choose which carpet you want it in too Grin

MarsBarsAreShrinking · 22/01/2017 18:11

Fucking hell.

Some of the smug posts on this thread are just unbelievable.

No-one needs to justify what they spend their own money on; no-one. It's no-one else's bloody business!

I love bags, LOVE them. I have a small collection of expensive ones. I couldn't give a tiny shit what anyone thinks and I've told more than one person to mind their own business and keep their (unasked for) opinions to themselves. One friend told me I was a twat (that was nice Hmm) for spending what I do on bags.

Moving on... OP if I were you I would take myself off to your nearest Harvey Nichols, Selfridges or similar and have a good look around at all the different brands. Hold them, carry them, see how they feel (some expensive bags are VERY heavy), see how they make you feel when you're holding them. Probably good idea to have in mind a general type before you go (day or night, work or pleasure, bright colour or more classic black/tan/grey/oxblood) or you might find yourself overwhelmed by the choice!

This would be the one I'd go for, if your budget could stretch a little, a Bottega Veneta Roma Tote.

If you had c. £1,300 to spend on a bag...
Trollspoopglitter · 22/01/2017 18:30

Ooo, that's a lovely understated bag, Mars. I am very horrible to my bags and somehow always spill stuff on them, so I've resigned myself to second hand eBay bags. My favourite is the classic (no longer in business) Tanner Krolle and that one reminds me of some of their classics from 80s and 90s.
