Autumn/Winter - what will you be wearing?

CaitAgusMadra · 01/08/2016 22:20

So now that it's officially autumn (kinda) and the weather has been crap here today what do you think you'll be wearing this autumn and winter?

Inspire me before I spend yet another winter wearing skinny jeans, ankle boots and slouchy knits

Are boyfriend jeans doable in winter? (I normally wear mine rolled up and I'm not a fan of cold ankles!)

God you're all so right. I don't know why I dithered really. It was the black I guess.

I'm worried it might be gone now....

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/08/2016 17:18

Try Oasis, Enid. Really good value (they have great sales!) and I absolutely love mine. My Oasis ones are wearing much better than my much more expensive Mint Velvet one.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/08/2016 17:20

Are they still open, Flo? Give them a call if so, or first thing in the morning if not, and get them to hang on to it for you..

Floisme · 12/08/2016 17:24

I'm having a look but I'm not sure if they do phones Remus Grin - it's a very small, back street shop. Otherwise I'll call in first thing tomorrow. Bet I don't sleep tonight now...

EnidButton · 12/08/2016 17:26

I'd forgotten about Oasis Remus thanks! I had a faux Warehouse one that wore really, really well actually so might have a look there too. I want a real leather one now.

EnidButton · 12/08/2016 17:27

Flo You can put scarves next to your neck if black doesn't suit or have it open. I look awful in black next to my face but coats/jackets are fine.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/08/2016 17:30

I now have a vision of Flo camping out overnight outside the tiny vintage shop, with a flask of tea.

Floisme · 12/08/2016 17:46
Grin

No-one's answering the phone. I was only trying it on a couple of hours ago and it's not as if there's a stampede for that kind of coat at the moment so hopefully it'll still be there in the morning. Only it's one of those places that doesn't bother opening till lunchtime, even on a Saturday.

Floisme · 12/08/2016 17:49

Enid our TK Maxx have got quite a few black, bikerish leather jackets in at the moment, including a Karl Lagerfeld, although it's not on their website.

CaitAgusMadra · 12/08/2016 18:31

I'm tempted to get a fake leather jacket. I'm not sure I'd wear one enough to justify the cost of a real one.

Has anyone seen this Oasis one in RL? It looks good on the website - not too shiny and the buttons and zips not OTT

I've been planning my Autumn/winter wardrobe recently too. I bought some Dr Martens Flora Chelsea boots in tan but they are too orange coloured so I'm sending them back. I've bought the cherry red ones instead (I already have them in black).

I've been eyeing up bikers too and Zara have the most stunningly beautiful red one online but at £150 it's way too expensive for me! I'm considering getting a faux one but I do already have a black one from Topshop. The arms are way too long for me though and it looks silly rolled up.

I'm starting college in a few weeks and it's a super cool art school so I'm really conscious of looking more hip and stylish. No idea where to start!

maggiethemagpie · 12/08/2016 19:19

I love autumn, it means I get to return to my default wardrobe of knit dresses and knee high boots. I have some lovely fly boots I bought for half price in the summer just waiting in their box for Autumn. I often get things at reduced price at the wrong time of the year to a) save money and b) give me something to look forward to opening and wearing when the season changes.

EnidButton · 12/08/2016 20:05

Flo I'll take a look thank you. Smile Fingers crossed for your coat.

Cait I like the look of that. You'll definitely wear it. I thought the same as you before I got my fake leather one but I wear it with everything. Which is why I feel I can justify getting a real one now. Although that Oasis one is tempting.

Sun16 · 12/08/2016 22:35

I have a fake leather one from topshop and it's great - really great and I wear it to death. Just didn't have the cash for a real one. I'd love a real one but it would mean I couldn't get anything else and tbh from a slight distance a decent fake looks just as good. I'm having the same dilemma about a leather/faux leather skirt now. My boots and bags on the other hand must always be real leather.

Ordered a mustard jumper from M&S today but fear it will be a disappointment. The one I really want is in Toast but only in large sizes and even the small looks big on the model.

Nearlyadoctor · 12/08/2016 23:29

Had a lovely day Autumn/Winter shopping today:
Tan Dune Chelsea boots
Ruffled blouse
Skinny jeans Mid/Indigo
Gorgeous Pom Pom scarf
Autograph block Cashmere Jumper
Clarks Navy Patent leather loafers.
Heavyweight striped Navy jersey dress

Also bought the M&S pleather biker jacket a few weeks ago, a new pair of black skinnies, and new Barbour coat, so feel my Winter wardrobe is under control!!

Statelychangers · 13/08/2016 07:27

I bought a mustard coat in May - have worn it once and I'm desperate to wear it again - summer clothes are nowhere near as beautiful as Autumn/Winter!

Tanaqui · 13/08/2016 08:00

Hope you get the leather coat today Flo.

I love the slouchy wide legged trousers and tennis shoes look too- feel like the tennis playing girls in an Agatha Christie- but they don't like me- I have short legs and a rounded stomach, and I think they look much better on the flat stomach/ wider hips/ longer legs- any of those!

I love short skirts- cord, tartan, tweed- with opaque and calf or knee boots.

Someone mentioned shirts and tank tops- I love tank tops for that slightly preppy look but haven't seen any for a year or two and I shrunk my favourite, slightly 70s style one. Have anyone seen any coming in?

Statelychangers · 13/08/2016 08:18

I love the white shirt, tank top or waist coat with tweedy wide legged trousers and polished brogues look.

ShellSuitonBonfireNight · 13/08/2016 08:24

On the subject of Autumn Coats, I bought the Alexa trench in Spring and am looking forward to getting it out and wearing it again (don't talk to me about it going in the Sale). It's a lovely Olive green which I think is a good Autumn colour. It has cropped sleeves (on me) though, so I think I will need some wrist-warmers to go with it.

Remus what Docs did you get?

Nearlyadoctor · 13/08/2016 08:56

Those of you that like Dr Martens - probably a silly question but can I ask what you wear them with? I really fancy a pair but not sure how much I would wear them.

Love the cherry red boots or the black Mary Janes with bows, just worried too clumpy for anything apart from jeans!

JellyBea · 13/08/2016 10:16

Doctor I have the Kensington Flora chelsea boots are they are lovely and not as heavy/clumpy as normal lace up DM's. I wear them with tights and dresses in the winter. They are amazing in snow/ice too!

Bogoffdailymail · 13/08/2016 10:22

Really want a grey tweed jacket, it's been in my wishlist for ages but I've not got around to finding one.
Dark brown boots, I don't do tan
Oxblood cross body bag - the Cambridge satchel company do a really loverly one that I'm going to save up for

Statelychangers · 13/08/2016 10:25

I love my dark brown Blunstone boots - I'll live in them once the white trainer season ends.

tirtytreeandarurd · 13/08/2016 10:30

Irish here and we were also taught Autumn begins in August. In fairness, maybe we should head over to craicnet to discuss fashion suitable for the Irish temperate Hmmclimate

HoggleHoggle · 13/08/2016 11:20

I feel I should know the answer to this, but...when will the main stock of winter coats tend to be in the shops? I've spent years ordering everything online but I really want to find a winter coat that is actually warm and that will last for a while, and I think I need a proper day in the shops to find it. Preferably without my toddler in tow, so might try to get it on the calendar now.
