Still no word from work about whether they will take things off me. Should I go in tomorrow anyway or call in sick? Am probably fine to teach - students won't know and frankly I could stand there starkers and they might not realise anything was up - but I can't do 50h marking by 2 weeks today.

Monty don't go in. Anything like my place if you are in they will assume you can do it all......

I have spent the day doing nothing - i will tackle doggie stuff tomorrow.

BD, so sorry to hear about your ddog. He was so gorgeous - love all those FB pix.

Monty What Molly said....You're supposed to be on compassionate leave, no? They are supposed to arrange cover. If you go in they might think they don't have to. Is there someone caring and supportive at work that you can have a frank conversation with, about it?

Tilly Its hard dismantling someone's life and home. I think being matter of fact about it, like you are is the only way. My DM was waving a Michelin Guide circa 1990 at me and Dsis the other day when we were supposed to be helping her clear some things out. She said we had to hang on to it as it's a "collectors item"

I have this afternoon visited a dear school friend who has just lost her DM. I took my DM with me, as we all come from the same place and were in a community together. Dropping like flies... Her DH has been her carer for many years (she had Parkinsons) and he will be 92 tomorrow, bless him. He's broken hearted.

Am now about to start teaching an extra class tonight, so that I can have time off when the DC are off, which isn't until the end of next week! Just me and DD here as DS2 has gone straight from school to the Adele gig. [jealous]

I have had a rather nice day with my cousin and am now on the 18.30 train back (so no idea when I will actually get home!) Was good to see her and she is v realistic and down to earth about my mum. Also saw my mum briefly - she was out having magnesium pumped into her veins this morning. She looks even tinier. But is rather charmed by the fact that the palliative care place has a trolley that comes round at 11.30 am with booze. A pre-prandial g&t with your IV, madam?

Yes, the drinks trolley does rather endear her to the whole place. It's the principle as much as the practice.

MI, that is exactly it, the principle. Every minute counts, make of them what you can: a haircut, a whiskey, a chat with a psych..... My df had the drinks trolley too - the visitors all gazed longingly at it....

Just back from a top day out with dd and dm. And the train was delayed by just over an hour, so we should get £££ back. They opened the buffet and made it free and everyone queued and ordered a drink and snack each without being told. I felt very proud .

Monty, what everyone else says. The fact that they haven't replied says quite a lot I think.

BTM, I hope you get some sleep tonight once you have wound down a bit..

I found cleaning items with pre decimal labels when clearing the house after my dm died in 2002; my df couldn't see any reason for updating them. and i guess he was right, given they weren't being used

Eventually got some sleep but weird dreams (involving your DM, MI, and a drinks trolley!) Woke early and now trying to get going on clearing again.

Lalsy, don't get your hopes up too much - I got a voucher for £8 for a similar delay (still nearly half the cost of the journey though!) but could only be used in person for buying a ticket/refreshments on the train!

Another lovely day here. Off to St. Paul's cathedral later for a kiddy-based tour and music workshop, involving the massive organ. Matron. Then we'll walk over the Thames to taste modern for a brief bit of art and then cake. And that's kulchure crossed off the Easter holiday list.

Yesterday we went up the orbit sculpture in the Olympic park, where there was some Lego going on sometimes living in london is really so fab.

bTM - well done with being so clear-headed clearing out your mum's place. Must be very hard. I get in floods of tears just looking back at old photos!

I really noticed on my last visit home that the house SMELLS. Like an old person's house. They have a cleaner, but God knows what she does as the place is filthy. And my dad peeing all over the bathroom floor doesn't help. I do a regular sweep of cupboards for out of date stuff. Last time I was there the big tub of yoghurt, just eaten by dad, had a pink tinge all over it and absolutely stank. I think they need someone to go in each week with a bottle of bleach and a bin bag.

Ha! Reminds me of when DSM married DDad - we had a good old larder clean-out, and found lots of food left over from when DM and he were together - a good 16 years earlier. And lots of empty bottles of alcohol, as his GF in intervening years was an alcoholic. We did find a nice bottle of Kirsch, though, and sloshed it all over some fresh pineapple we were having for pudding that evening.....only to find that she'd quaffed the Kirsch years earlier, and filled the bottle with water. Eurgh.

Anyway, off to work I go.....not slept very well the last few nights, and I'm not feeling particularly sparky.

Argh, I must work. I have at least conducted a Ladyjog. Having done a lot of walking yesterday.

My offspring made me chuck out a bottle of Thai fish sauce which I still thought was perfectly OK the other day. My lovely cousin has given me, among other lovely thing including a beautiful purple shawl, a small jar of prawn pickle. Yesssss.
