You know how some people refer to Primark as Primarni?? Well......

DH is convinced that the word Primarni is a cross between Primark and Armani (as in Giorgio Armani, posh suits etc).

But I always thought it was a combination of Primark and Marni (fashionista favourite). Who is right?

On another note, how many of you still buy your own clothes from there? I think some of the current stuff is good but they've shot their prices up.

I've always loved the Marni interpretation. Marni is quirky, bold, skilled with prints and accessories. Armani was big back when Richard Gere was American Gigolo but his greiges and corporate suits were a uniform - a bit like Celine these days. Can you imagine anyone who isn't mother-of-the-bride in Armani?

I love the way numerous posters have explained why it is Marni and the link to the specific collection and just because lots of uninformed people think it's Armani because they've never heard of Marni doesn't mean it is etc. and yet posters are still saying NO! It's Armani

I still don't think it's Marni tbh and I have read (most of) the thread. Not because it doesn't make sense for it to be Marni, I'm sure it does if you're in the know about fashion and the product range in Primark. I just don't think that much thought went into it. I think it's more likely it is an ironic mix of an upmarket label with a low cost fashion brand. A bit of fun.

Speaking of which, this thread started out as lighthearted and has gone all . Maybe we can just agree to disagree instead of trying to prove who is right / wrong. It's gone a bit sour.

Lady I always understood it as a joke too. Cheap pretending to be posh. Ditto Pradamark and Primarche (with obligatory Fr accent). Made desirable by catwalk knock-off turnarounds and "you'll never believe how much/little this was". Nothing really to do with design similarities, more the opposite really. I think that's how most people understood it anyway (Primark + Armani).

I can see that some of the designs did in fact knock off Marni, but Primark knocks off everything high end to high street, doesn't it.

It always reminds me of poor Raquel from Corrie going on a photoshoot at "R Marney's". It was a green grocers or something
