You know how some people refer to Primark as Primarni?? Well......

DH is convinced that the word Primarni is a cross between Primark and Armani (as in Giorgio Armani, posh suits etc).

But I always thought it was a combination of Primark and Marni (fashionista favourite). Who is right?

I have never heard of Marni so I had always assumed it referred to Armani.

Never heard of Marni. Of course it's Armani! And those saying 'Yes but Armani has no r before the n' - it doesn't need to! Primark already has the 'r'. It's 'Primark' minus the 'k', with 'ni' added on to make it sound like Armani (to non-rhotic speakers). Rhotic speakers can just miss out the 'r' to make it sound right, I guess Grin.

I just assumed it was 'Marni' with the Pri added on and that was the joke.

The thing is, OP, loooads of people call it Primarni or at least know it often gets called that, and if even your average MNer who is interested enough to click on a thread about it has never heard of Marni, then I'm not sure you can hold out much hope that the rest of the population has!
