do you shave or wax genital area?

I hate shaving! it usually gives me an ugly rash after a day and I find it difficult because I have a longish labia on one side which gets in the way. Even if I pull it tight to one side I still can't get a smooth shave because the razor is too wide.. if that makes sense..

I'm considering waxing instead. Any of you girls do this? Any do's and don'ts and what product do you use etc.?

or do you just pay to get it done professionally?

oh and how long until the hair grows back?

thanks girls x

Hi Angelina321
Have you shaved your fanny?
Please post a picture for us :)

NationalTrustLadyGardens · 12/11/2015 15:43

But many teenage boys shave all theirs off too. As I found one day when my lovely venus razor was all clogged up and their were pubes clinging to every surface in the bathroom as well as spots of blood on the white tiles. And my tube of germolene was missing.

TillITookAnArrowToTheKnee · 12/11/2015 15:49

But I like discussing how my fanny looks Sad

National - barf! Did he own up to it?!

NationalTrustLadyGardens · 12/11/2015 15:49

I would have to change my name if I shaved mine. My fanjo is is verdant, fragrant and in full bloom, like Lyme Park in summer.

NationalTrustLadyGardens · 12/11/2015 15:52

Yes, sheepishly. Only after I'd accused DH though. Thought he was having a midlife crisis and would be wearing a Superdry T shirt next.

ExasperatedAlmostAlways · 12/11/2015 15:54

Angelia 321, please do explain why??

Angelina321 · 12/11/2015 15:56

Oh yes we can all discuss it.

But we've had these kinds of threads started before, supposedly innocent questions, "do you really have to turn around and spread your bum?", and you think hmm, what woman would ask that? And it later turns out to be started by a male poster. Also the reference to 'girls'. It just doesn't scan right.

TillITookAnArrowToTheKnee · 12/11/2015 15:58

National - snorting, sorry! Germolene on nicked genitals YOWCH. Plonker Grin

BertrandRussell · 12/11/2015 16:02

"I would apologise if I ended up with a mullet! Same thing. You're making it out to be a huge thing when it's really not."

No. It is not the same at all. And no, I am not making it out to be a huge thing. I am however making it out to be a thing. And it seems to me that women being ashamed of having normal adult bodies is most definitely a thing.

Fairylea · 12/11/2015 16:20

Sure this type of thread could have been started by some pervy man or young lad but then to be honest the Internet is full of weirdos that get turned on by all sorts of stuff. If you reported every possible thread that might be started by a porn seeking troll you'd have hardly anything left on mumsnet. It's not worth worrying about.

Queenbean · 12/11/2015 16:23

I think this is the ideal place to ask if they spread your bum before waxing it

Who would I ask in real life? My work colleagues?

"Oh hi Tina, did you have a nice weekend? Btw, do you wax your fanny, and if so, do they spread your bum cheeks to do it? Oh, and could you send over this month's financial report?"

The great thing about mumsnet is that you can ask anything!

mrssmith79 · 12/11/2015 16:28

I use hair remover cream, all off. A few maintenance swipes with a razor in between usually keeps it in check. Pay no heed to the fuzzy flaps brigade, every pube topiary thread I've ever read on here ends up like this.

BertrandRussell · 12/11/2015 16:37

Can people who remove their pubic hair (for those who might not be sure what that means, I am referring to "baldy flaps") confirm that they have no problem at all with women putting off going for smear tests because they are ashamed of their hair, or being more worried about the hairiness or otherwise of their genitals than any other aspect of childbirth? These are not streams case- they crop up with depressing frequency.

Queenbean · 12/11/2015 16:40

Bertrand how does me removing my pubes have any impact on another woman not wanting to go for a smear? I sure as hell will not be taking responsibility for that, it's up to each and every woman.

bobsalong · 12/11/2015 16:47

I had a Hollywood wax at uni. Wasn't too bad at all and it felt fantastic- really clean and nice smooth skin.

Went for one while pregnant as I didn't want to get to the stage where I couldn't see to shave and it was agony, she had to stop after she'd done my bikini line.

Too scared to go back now, just stick to shaving. Tempted to buy some numbing cream though, has anyone tried that?

MephistophelesApprentice · 12/11/2015 16:47

I doubt me shaving my pubic hair has an impact on women's medical attendance.

It just looks better and produces more mutually satisfactory sex.

MephistophelesApprentice · 12/11/2015 16:48

*for me and my partner.

Advertising/media have done a good job convincing us that hairless is beautiful.

I'm not sure how much the industry is worth but prob tens of millions on completely unnecessary products so we can be 'beautiful'.

It's a myth that hairless is cleaner.
Hair has odour and moisture wicking qualities.

No one who is hairless willing to admit that they do it because of media/societal pressure?

QforCucumber · 12/11/2015 17:15

friends actually I said earier (yesterday) that fashion probably has dictated my choice, in the same way it dictates my choice in hair colour, the decision to epilate my legs and underarms too.
I have also been for a smear between waxes and never felt the need to apologise?!
Final point - you say about people's daughters being influenced by this need and why we shouldn't allow this... my dm has no idea that I get waxed, and to be honest - probably wouldn't give a damn. She has better priorities than how hairy or not her daughters bits are.

SparklyTinselTits · 12/11/2015 17:17

Why would me going for a full Hollywood wax affect whether or not Jane Doe down the road goes for her smear test?! If she's embarrassed by pubes then that's her own issue, not mine.

mrsmugoo · 12/11/2015 17:18

Of course I don't do it because society pressures me to!

However yes I accept it is more fashionable to remove public hair now (maybe because of porn, maybe as a result of swimwear trends?) and as a result Hollywood waxes are available on the high street where they weren't 10 years ago - perpetuating the popularity as it is something freely available.

I don't take any responsibility for women who are embarrassed by their pubic hair when they go for smears - that is their own hang up!!

Salene · 12/11/2015 17:20

I shave, it's horrid and end up itchy

I would love to get waxed but too wimpy combined with feeling too embarrassed to get it done

If I left it natural my OH wouldn't be impressed that said I make him shave too for same reason

A stray little black curly stuck in the teeth is enough to make me boke yuk Confused

Prettyinblue · 12/11/2015 17:23

Odds that this a male op is very high!
