do you shave or wax genital area?

justonesherryformedicinalpurpo · 11/11/2015 12:16

I hate shaving! it usually gives me an ugly rash after a day and I find it difficult because I have a longish labia on one side which gets in the way. Even if I pull it tight to one side I still can't get a smooth shave because the razor is too wide.. if that makes sense..

I'm considering waxing instead. Any of you girls do this? Any do's and don'ts and what product do you use etc.?

or do you just pay to get it done professionally?

oh and how long until the hair grows back?

thanks girls x

I can't even comprehend what a c section incision/scar would be like without being hairless in that region!

SparklyTinselTits · 12/11/2015 09:29

mrsmugoo Confused

BertrandRussell · 12/11/2015 10:21

I haven't had a c section. But my understanding is that you donut need to be completely hairless- just the top inch or so of the "triangle" needs to go.

Midwives have come on threads like this before to say that pubic hair makes no difference at all to a vaginal birth.

TillITookAnArrowToTheKnee · 12/11/2015 10:25

Because there was no societal pressure on me to be pube free at 13, thats why! Ffs!

DeathstarDame · 12/11/2015 10:27

I started my periods very young, before I had many pubes. However, when they did eventually arrive, at that time of the month it did make me feel unclean which is why I opted to remove everything from about the age of 12. As I got older I changed to just keeping "the triangle". I do find sex more enjoyable without and generally just feel more comfortable that way. Nothing to do with peer pressure, it's just what I like. I think it's all down to personal preference and experience Smile

FedUpWithJudgementalPeople · 12/11/2015 10:32

Really about 5 people have said here that having pubes is cleaner. Thanks for implying the hairy amongst are unclean (as well as gross).

SparklyTinselTits · 12/11/2015 10:34

Personally, I never had an opinion about pubes when I was 13/14....but I was in the bath once, shaved my legs, and just got rid of all my pubic hair as well. It wasn't a concious decision, as in "Oh my god that's disgusting! I need to get rid of it!", I just did it. Then because I did a lot of ballet, and wore teeny weeny leotards, I just carried on getting rid of everything. Then turned to waxing because it's less of a pain in the arse no pun intended. Nothing to do with peer pressure, or porn, or my DH asking me to do it.

DeathstarDame · 12/11/2015 10:39

FedUp, I don't think it's cleaner on the whole. I personally find it cleaner.

BertrandRussell · 12/11/2015 10:41

OK. Obviously some people have always removed their pubic hair.

But something has happened over the last 20 years that has made it the norm, rather than an individual choice made by some women. 20 years ago it wouldn't have crossed anyone's mind to apologise to the nurse doing your smear test for having pubic hair. Now, judging by the many threads I've seen on here about it, lots of women do. And, as I said, it's not long since women were campaigning against compulsory shaving in maternity wards. So what has happened in the last 20 years? Not to you, the individual who decided independently at the age of 13 to shave- there have always been some women who made that choice. But to women as a whole?

SparklyTinselTits · 12/11/2015 10:44

Deathstar Grin at "cleaner on the whole" Grin

TillITookAnArrowToTheKnee · 12/11/2015 10:45

I find being pube free cleaner for me. I cant adaquetly describe just how long, thick, wiry and how many pubes I have. Coupled with really heavy periods (change maxi pad every half hour, flood regularly) and heavy discharge in between, discharge that makes my pubes stick together in a disgusting mess, which in turn then made me stink, despite showering twice a day, plus the sensory disorder I have, are my top 2 reasons why I get rid of it all.

However my much less hairy DSis says its the opposite for her. Whatevs. I cant be arsed to get myself into a froth about it, like some PPs. Its a necessity for me.

UmbongoUnchained · 12/11/2015 13:45

So what if it's an influenced thing? All it is is a hairstyle really. I'm sure your teen daughters would also be mortified to be seen with a mullet or a big 80's perm! Some choose to follow trends some dont. For me, having pubic hair is as grim as having an 80's hairstyle and blue eyeshadow.

BertrandRussell · 12/11/2015 14:08

"For me, having pubic hair is as grim as having an 80's hairstyle and blue eyeshadow."

I honestly don't think you can compare a normal physical characteristic of an adult woman to blue eyeshadow!

And nobody says that wearing blue eyeshadow is shameful, or dirty or "grim"

SparklyTinselTits · 12/11/2015 14:21

I have to disagree there Bertrand....I would describe 80s blue eyeshadow as grim Confused which ever way this is spun...the bottoms line is, some women like having pubes, some don't! Do what you want with your own fanny. So what if someone was influenced by porn to get rid? It's their schmoo!

AbeSaidYes · 12/11/2015 14:22

no I don't

BertrandRussell · 12/11/2015 14:35

Sparkly- would you like your daughter to feel she had to wax because the societal change means that the men she meets are repulsed by her pubic hair?

BertrandRussell · 12/11/2015 14:36

And how do you feel about the women I mentioned who are ashamed and feel the need to apologise for their pubic hair?

SparklyTinselTits · 12/11/2015 14:47

When my daughter is old enough to think about removing pubic hair, then I'm pretty sure I would leave her too it. Her fanny, she can do what she wants! not my business, just as its no ones business what anyone does with their pubes Hmm why does it matter if society has influenced people one way or the other? Society influences us to do or not to do a lot of things

UmbongoUnchained · 12/11/2015 14:47

I would apologise if I ended up with a mullet! Same thing. You're making it out to be a huge thing when it's really not.

catdoodles · 12/11/2015 14:49

When I was younger I regularly got my bikini line hot waxed - lovely and smooth for ages. Now I just shave because its more practical.

vixsatis · 12/11/2015 14:53

Bertrand is right as usual

ExasperatedAlmostAlways · 12/11/2015 15:00

I use a trimmer to trim the front right down then I use a razor to shave it into a neat triangle and shave off everything underneath around the labia or just shave it all off depending how much time I have. Shaving all off is faster.

I personally don't understand the comments from other people commenting negatively because others maintain their pubes in a different way to them, luckily people are free to do whatever they want. My genitals certainly don't look like a child's! Or are people also so ignorant they aren't aware all genitals look different.

Angelina321 · 12/11/2015 15:05

Reported this thread and we can all see why.

expatinscotland · 12/11/2015 15:20

No, I don't see why it needed to be reported and hope HQ has more sense.

Fairylea · 12/11/2015 15:31

Why does the thread need to be reported? Are we not allowed to discuss pubic hair now?!
