do you shave or wax genital area?

I hate shaving! it usually gives me an ugly rash after a day and I find it difficult because I have a longish labia on one side which gets in the way. Even if I pull it tight to one side I still can't get a smooth shave because the razor is too wide.. if that makes sense..

I'm considering waxing instead. Any of you girls do this? Any do's and don'ts and what product do you use etc.?

or do you just pay to get it done professionally?

oh and how long until the hair grows back?

thanks girls x

How can you all do it?!

Because I have no shame! Smile

P1nkP0ppy · 11/11/2015 15:20

I feel sorry for the poor beauticians.....

mrsmugoo · 11/11/2015 15:23

I do it for myself because I prefer how it feels! I recently left it to go completely wild because I'm pregnant and I've had such bad sickness there's no way I could have managed a wax and I HATED it! It felt all woolly and is definitely less sexually sensitive.

Piffle to those who scoff and say you're weird for being child like - I'll have my pubes however I want them thanks!

PollyPerky · 11/11/2015 16:29

Neither, OP.

Unless wearing swimwear then a quick tidy up round the edges.

FedUpWithJudgementalPeople · 11/11/2015 16:30

I presume the comment that it makes sex more enjoyable was sarcasm Hmm

expatinscotland · 11/11/2015 16:32

Wax. But saving for at home IPL.

ImTakingTheEssence · 11/11/2015 16:40

I feel cleaner with no hair, especially when I have my period. I prefer to shave it all off never had any problems.

Fink · 11/11/2015 16:41

I get waxed at the salon. The more you have it done, the less it hurts. The worst bit now is about on a level with stubbing a toe. I find top lip threading MUCH more painful.

I'm single and no one sees, and tbh i prefer the look of some tidy hair, but I just always take the lowest maintenance/effort approach to beauty treatments (e.g. never wear make up etc.) and one trip to the salon every couple of months is so much less faff than trimming.

Biscuit For everyone over invested in my pubes. My genitals look nothing like a childs Hmm My reasons for waxing are nobody elses business. Do I care if others wax or not? I find it difficult to muster a fuck to give. And I certainly don't insult people. Grow up.

WipsGlitter · 11/11/2015 16:53

For some people like me it's not a neat triangle. It's pube like hair all over my thighs, backs of legs etc so bog off with your "pubis like a child comments"

Women have removed hair for centuries.

Why are people so bothered really? DP would prefer I had some. I prefer to shave it all off, so I shave it all off because it's my body and I want to feel comfortable.

I'm pretty sure that it doesn't look like a child's, much like my legs and arm pits don't look like a child's.

I don't cut my hair though, I like that long and natural and it's lovely And glossy. (Before everyone starts telling me I have split ends)

Who gives a shit really?

putcustardonit · 11/11/2015 17:01

I'm desperate to try waxing but I'm worried about the pain. I've been known to swear loudly having the sides done on a bikini wax. Is it like legs that become more tolerant in time?

justonesherryformedicinalpurpo · 11/11/2015 17:49

motherofdragons I never thought of that! I will give the coconut oil a try.

I don't think the "child like" comments are fair. Our vaginas certainly change as we age so I don't think shaving makes us suddenly look pre-puberty. I understand why some like hair and why others do not and that's our own choice at the end of the day.

so please, if negative comments towards other womens preferences could be avoided, that would be great.

rich ancient egyptians -male and female removed all body hair. if you have the time, money, preference-it's up/down to you.

BrendaandEddie · 11/11/2015 17:50

OP

lose the x and the ' girls'

its naff

justonesherryformedicinalpurpo · 11/11/2015 17:53

brenda people like you really make me dislike mumsnet.

Did I ask if someone liked the way I posted? No? I asked a question about shaving and waxing. So if you aren't responding to my actual question, in the politest way possible, buzz off.

I wax. Used to remove it all religiously every few weeks in my twenties. But not often since having kids. The hair is fine and straight and sparse now from doing it for a good ten years. I trim with electric thing.

Hot wax is way less painful than strip wax.

Ingrowns are a pain but there are things you can apply to skin to help these and razor bumps.

You can get burns, skin infections and even STDs from a wax if proper procedures aren't adhered to.

puffylovett · 11/11/2015 18:07

Well ordinarily I wax, I get a salon done around the edges and then I whip as much off at home as I can. Not always neatly I might add!

I've just let me lady garden grow for a few months and it was horrific, all down the sides of my legs. I much prefer most of it off as I have heavy periods and use a mooncup, snagging a pube on insertion is not particularly pleasant!

Hope that's not too much info Grin

I should add that dp doesn't really care either way, but if pushed would opt for all off.

itsbetterthanabox · 11/11/2015 18:08

If you get waxed then make sure you get it done professionally! Don't do it yourself!
Find a good salon that uses hard/hot wax not strip/warm wax for the intimate area. It's significantly less painful and doesn't irritate as much. Strip wax is for legs and basic bikini not intimate- Brazilian waxing this needs stripless wax. Hair should be around a quarter of an inch to half and inch. Make sure you go freshly washed with no lotion on the skin. A good intimate wax will do the bum crack too so be aware Wink

Crankycunt · 11/11/2015 18:14

I've got a beard trimmer for mine, if I don't it gets caught up in my knickers, get stuck to pads and whatnot.

Yes I understand the sex is better comment, not sure if it's because the skin is a little more sensitive sans pubes, but it is better.

And I don't want to look like I've got a Bob Ross afro sticking out my knickers.

WanderingTrolley1 · 11/11/2015 18:17

I leave it. Or trim if entertaining...

QforCucumber · 11/11/2015 18:18

Hot wax is much much less painful than cold or strip wax, if you're worried just book in for a bikini wax first - then work your way 'up'
I get a full Hollywood now, 15 mins and it's over - not agonising at all. More just a little 'oof' when it's ripped off.
On these threads it's always those who don't wax/shave who take it personally, whereas those of us who do couldn't really care less if other people do or not (if that makes sense)

CuttedUpPear · 11/11/2015 18:21

wips you removing the hair from your thighs and legs doesn't connect with my comment about a child-like pubis in any way.

I trim the edges that poke out of my large knickers myself.
Yes, women have removed hair for centuries, but never before in this increasingly porn inspired way (because that's where it comes from, I've been around for long enough to know).

Anyway, I wonder how you wannabe baddies will cope in older age when the creep of foliage is ever increasing yet the flexibility and the will to wax is on the wane...?
