do you shave or wax genital area?

I hate shaving! it usually gives me an ugly rash after a day and I find it difficult because I have a longish labia on one side which gets in the way. Even if I pull it tight to one side I still can't get a smooth shave because the razor is too wide.. if that makes sense..

I'm considering waxing instead. Any of you girls do this? Any do's and don'ts and what product do you use etc.?

or do you just pay to get it done professionally?

oh and how long until the hair grows back?

thanks girls x

bertrand yes it's a thing, it's a TREND. Maybe in 10 years time a big bush will fashionable again like it was in the 70's! Get over yourself!

Also if women were that ashamed of having pubic hair the surely they would just shave it off before the smear test. If they don't have a smear test because of it, then that's down to their own stupidity.

Salene · 12/11/2015 17:29

Yeah I do immac it sometimes but that's a effort for me

I should do it more often as hate shaving

I will it would just disappear for good and I become a nice baldy Smile

QforCucumber · 12/11/2015 17:33

Oh also bertrand I'm 23 weeks pregnant with my first baby and can promise you now, whether or not I'm due a wax is not my main worry about giving birth.

wiltingfast · 12/11/2015 17:33

omg OP if you haven't done it before why bother starting now? It's just one more chore in maintenance iyam. And itchy, yuck.

TRIM it woman, TRIM. He's damn lucky to be getting there anyway Grin

Fairylea · 12/11/2015 17:33

I'm not even sure it matters if it's a trend. It's not a body modification in the sense of permanently and dangerously altering your body is it? It's a hair cut. That's all. No big deal. We all follow trends, big glasses of the 1980s or thongs in the 90s (and now) and I'm sure in twenty years people will laugh at everyone wearing skinny jeans and getting their hair (on their head) coloured purple or whatever. Who cares? Really? If someone wants to opt into a trend or not that's completely up to them and no one should feel bad either way. I don't see why women should have to keep justifying themselves to other women all the time. I'm sure the suffragettes would just be happy we were able to talk about this stuff and laugh about it.

Not sure how my decision to have a bald fanny makes me responsible for women who cant put their big girl pants on and go for a LIFE SAVING TEST that is totally painless and takes seconds. Seriously. Get a grip. It does depress me that they feel like that, but if theyd rather die than risk momentary slight embarassment, they have bigger issues.

ledgeoffseason · 12/11/2015 17:44

Not going to get involved in the debate though actually think there are good points on either side. Personally have had brazilians out of curiosity in twenties and stayed full-bushed at times as y'know, my choice. Eugh, did have horrifically drawn out sugaring process that has reet put me off having everything off (groupon gone wrong).

HOWEVER, for those scared/embarrassed by waxing, strongly recommend just going for a normal or high bikini wax - much cheaper and a middle ground I actually prefer. Poss this is old-fashioned view? Also there is something that stops ingrown hairs - vg cult product for men Tend Skin although these days think there are lots of similar alternatives.

girlguide123 · 12/11/2015 17:55

wow. I'm fairly new to mumsnet and this has been an informative thread on many levels... my thoughts (if anyone's interested?)

  • some fairly strong judgmental posts, even from those who are fed up with them...
  • who cares who cares who cares how other people style their hair, really.
  • however useful tips are useful
  • I wouldn't dream of telling my adult daughters what to do with their pubes and I'm certain they would rather die a thousand deaths than tell me what to do with mine!
  • nationaltrustladygarden - you win the internets with your fabulous username
  • I can't cope with waxing or shaving, so I go for a fairly short trim. I'm sure you all really wanted to know that.

OP - I hope you get some good answers to your actual question!

angela I promise you I am not a man/troll. I am a woman after some tips from other women. That is all.

I think a small bush looks more attractive (and sexy) than a bald fanny so apart from a few snips, I just leave it.

Blushingbelinda · 12/11/2015 18:37

I had mine lasered. Dead easy & permanently bikini ready (I swim)

UmbongoUnchained · 12/11/2015 18:44

Is lasering expensive?

Anonprofessionalmum - see I find being bald down there makes me more sweaty / clammy.
