Hoping link to previous thread works!

Continuation of the thread where I realised I was not alone in my hoarding of all things make-up/beauty/skincare/toiletries.

Lots of lovely mumsnetters who encourage each other to use and enjoy all those lovely products, and at the same time try to reduce our spending on unnecessaries!

I have used up an eye cream and a daytime moisturiser. I also threw out about 6 eyeshadows which must be at least 4 years old. They were supposed to be cream ones but they had all dried up. I found a super silver eyeshadow when I went through my stash though so it was worth it. Looks great with purple eyeliner!

FrustratedFrugal · 05/11/2015 18:59

I found a huge stash of cotton wool this summer. Two thirds of it are used up now, have just started the last package. Am enjoying a pale purple eye palette and red, plummy and ashy rose lipsticks, all previously unloved ones from my stash.

Ememem84 · 07/11/2015 11:02

Dry shampoo used up yesterday. Boot sown brand. The purple one. It's nice but not as good as batiste imo. It is about half the price though...

Still ploughing my way through urban decay naked 2. And revlon Bb cream. Still hate bb cream. But am getting through it.

Started a new grapefruit body butter. So only 3 more to use up.

GuyMartinsSideburns · 07/11/2015 13:20

Ooh this is a great idea. I was terrible for stockpiling toiletries etc and 'saving things for best' but of course what happens then is that the item goes off and ends up being a waste. We recently moved house so I had a good clear out - lots of nails inc polishes in colours I never wear I gave to a friend and my sister, gave my friend a perfume and a couple of body butters. I never understood why I bought so many body butters! I find them too thick and hate how they feel on my skin.

I've recently used up a rimmel mascara, I've almost finished a garnier bb cream, and 2 agent provocateur perfumes. im going to have a clear out for the charity shop too, I've got some dresses I've never worn and 2 perfumes that can go as I've only had one or two squirts out of each one - they are too heavy for me but someone else might like them.

legohurtswhenyoustandonit · 07/11/2015 15:11

I've finished off a couple of things - a tub of body butter (they seem to last forever) and a hand cream. Now I'm working on an eye cream. Since starting this I've definitely thought more about things before purchasing them. I've still fallen down a couple of times though and bought more hand cream and moisturiser than I need.

IPokeBadgers · 09/11/2015 13:23

Finished off one of the [many] bars of lovely soap I seem to have accumulated. It was a Scottish Fine Soap from TK Maxx, orangey scent, really lovely. Used it right down to the last sliver, excellent soap. Now have one of the Loccitane hand soaps out of the knicker drawer and into the bathroom!

Finished a shampoo and conditioner [Dr Organic Argan Oil from H&B] - was nice, might buy again. I now have the reserve shampoo and conditioner moved from the cupboard into the bathroom so will have to buy a new set of spares. Im determined not to let the hoard spiral out of control again on things like that....one in use, one in reserve to be the new rule. [ I say "rule", probably more of a serving suggestion.....]

I've finished off a shower gel that came with a perfume, I like the scent but am glad it's gone and no longer 'saved for best!' I'm now using a freebie Clinique mascara but tbh I'm not sure il be sticking with it as it doesn't seem to do much for me. I've also almost used up my soap and glory translucent powder too. I'm using a scrub each morning and doing the double cleanse each evening, then actually bothering to use serum etc so will be getting these used up too. Need to use hand cream more often as I've got so many of them.

Paperblank · 09/11/2015 21:28

I don't generally post when I've finished a shower gel but I have FINAL finished all my stockpile of Avon ones. Thank God!

I'm now going to make a start on the "posh" ones, there will come a day quite soon when I can then make a start on all the soaps I seem to have acquired Grin

Ememem84 · 10/11/2015 08:38

Finished clarins moisturiser. Love this one and have a back up to start tomorrow.

Decided today to use the "gunmetal" pat butcher blue shadow in my naked 2 pallet.

It's ok. But haven't left the house yet. It might look different in the daylight.

BoyFromTheBigBadCity · 10/11/2015 10:31

Oh can I join in? I have finished a Clinique concealer pen, a palette by No.7 (which I have a duplicate of). If I can get stuck into all my samples and makeup I will have so much space!

FiveShelties · 10/11/2015 10:36

Just finished a Boots Essentials Cucumber Cleanser, which was as cheap as anything but did the job. There is another hiding in the stockpile so no need to repurchase. I have found since following this thread I have hardly purchased anything - although was very tempted by the Advent Calendars.

Sirzy · 13/11/2015 13:45

I have finished a primer and a lip gloss in the last few days. The primer was a sample of a no 7 one which I liked but I have 3 more samples to use before buying new!

Blueandwhitelover · 13/11/2015 18:16

Finally thrown away an empty bubble bath that my son finished off, still so much to go!

FiveShelties · 14/11/2015 10:31

A No7 Eye Shadow Pallet gone - no need to replace, others in the wings just waiting to be used. I have quite a few things almost finished - I keep trying to guess which will go first. So satisfying finishing things now.

legohurtswhenyoustandonit · 14/11/2015 10:34

Finished off a bottle of Flowerbomb. I loved it but have other bottles of perfume to use up before I buy more.

Sirzy · 14/11/2015 10:55

Finished a no 7 mascara sampler today. Still got 3 more sample size and one full size so no need to buy moreZ

Ememem84 · 14/11/2015 13:47

Still powering through naked 2 pallet. Am actually starting to see the sides of some colours now. Hoping it'll be gone by March....

Have ordered myself a new perfume as my travel size jo Malone is close to being used up.

AuntieMaggie · 15/11/2015 09:39

I really need to join you Blush I have a mass of lipsticks and eyeshadows that I've accumulated as well as loads of nail varnish which I use so rarely that they've started separating so probably need binning! I used to wear make up including eyeshadow and lipstick every day but since having ds I don't bother so much...

I also have a mass of hotel toiletries as I hate waste so used to bring home stuff when I travelled for work...

Nettletheelf · 15/11/2015 15:32

Anybody else find that TK Maxx is a danger zone? Their beauty department sends me a bit loopy. Particularly the reduced bit. I often find stuff in there, particularly shower gel, and it's gorgeous, but never seen again. So I go in hoping to find a favourite and end up with something else as a consolation prize!

There's a bit of 'buy it now or you might not see it again and it's cheap' about TK Maxx which encourages over-buying, I think. Not that it stops me from going in. I'm just as bad with the candles.

Paperblank · 15/11/2015 21:01

One of my colleagues often buys beauty products from T K Maxx. She has, in fairness, had some major finds and outright bargains but more often than not she's bought a duff thing!

I'm a bit dubious about buying from my local one - most of the time the product looks like it's had fingers in it.

dogdaydisaster · 16/11/2015 15:53

I have finally used up my dior star foundation. I fund it a bit pale so have been mixing it with a chanel aqua vitalumiere that was a bit too dark. Glad it's gone now. I liked the formulation, but their range of colours was a bit rubish.

Ememem84 · 18/11/2015 17:59

This is naked 2 pallet. I'm hoping to use up at least one shade by new year. Sigh. Is going to be a long slog

Clarins eye balm finished this morning.

Paperblank · 18/11/2015 19:35

I love those Naked pallets I've just got so many similar colours in other pallets I've not been able to justify one

Maybe one day....Smile

FrustratedFrugal · 18/11/2015 20:15

I finished our last bottle of Listerine. Whew! Using up is slow going, but my toiletries cupboard is definitely more roomy and I look more groomed.

I had my makeup done professionally this morning before a work thing and the lip stuff clumped up before noon and the mascara was all over my eye socket by midday. Pros don't always get it right either!

Fiveshelties well done that sound really impressive!

legohurtswhenyoustandonit · 19/11/2015 07:32

I've finished an eye cream and a lipstick. It is slow going though and I still have a stockpile of body lotions and hand creams from last Christmas.
