Hoping link to previous thread works!

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/2320549-Ashamed-of-my-beauty-product-hoard?pg=1

Continuation of the thread where I realised I was not alone in my hoarding of all things make-up/beauty/skincare/toiletries.

Lots of lovely mumsnetters who encourage each other to use and enjoy all those lovely products, and at the same time try to reduce our spending on unnecessaries!

Oh lordy I can't believe how big my stash is [tchblush], I've probably got 10 years worth of shampoo, shower gel, bubble bath, soap, makeup...you get my gist!
I'm seriously considering taking bags of it to the homeless charity near me.

FiveShelties · 04/12/2015 20:43

Another shower gel gone - this one only had a little bit it and had somehow got back in with the full ones. Definitely no need to replace - many others to take its place.

FiveShelties · 05/12/2015 21:01

M & S Bubble Bath finished off today - absolutely no need to replace - another 7 hiding in the wings. Thanks to this thread and the no clothes buying one, I have hardly spent any money over the past 6 weeks on 'stuff'.

cankleofglitter · 06/12/2015 09:51

Finished a trial size of a decleor eye cream but ordered a full size one to replace it. Beauty hoard fail!

Have used up two shower gels and a cleanser though.

FrustratedFrugal · 13/12/2015 14:21

Haven't finished anything recently, as I am working on full-size products, but haven't bought any beauty items in ages. When I feel bored, I root around in my stash. I've just found an old lipstick that has a skin-brightening rosy tone, and am using one purple-taupe shade of eye shadow (worn less than other shades in the quad) on its own.

legohurtswhenyoustandonit · 13/12/2015 21:29

I've a few empties to add to the list.

Clinique lip balm in raspberry. I really liked this and will repurchase in time.

Bodyshop chocolate body butter. I normally like the BS body butters but I didn't like this one as it seemed to pill on the skin rather than soak in. This may be my fault because I'd had it sitting in the cupboard for over a year.

Johnsons face cream - I use this as a body cream. Already have a spare in the cupboard.

IPokeBadgers · 14/12/2015 10:16

Finished a foundation: No 7 Stay Perfect in Warm Ivory. Fighting with myself because want to buy another one, it worked really well on my skin.

But....I have another 2 [at least] No 7 liquid foundations [full size] as well as 2 small benefit foundations from their face kits, and a few Laura Geller/Max Factor compact foundations in the hoard....so need to start using up rather than buying more.

Really tempted to try some of the cheaper foundations though, as so many have the Xmas free gifts with £15 spend on at the minute....Revlon, Max Factor, Loreal.....Problem is, I have no idea how to choose another foundation brand colour, as have been spoilt by the good job the No 7 gadget did in picking my warm ivory for me!

Few more shampoos and shower gels gone. Really making a big dent in the shampoo.

Badgers I agree that No7 gadget is brilliant. I've tried many makes/colours which were all meant to be "most suited" to me, they weren't unless I was going for the orange skin look and that's not me. I'm a warm ivory too.

Looking unintentionally more groomed in the process.

Ememem84 · 14/12/2015 17:50

Accidentally fell into the Mac counter and spent £43 on a new eyeshadow pallet (in shimmery purples) and a mascar. Oops.

Woodhill · 14/12/2015 17:58

I feel like I am making a dent in mine but a long way to go. Definitely shampoos diminishing and shower gels.

IPokeBadgers · 15/12/2015 08:54

Very clumsy of you Ememem84, at least you are not badly damaged by your fall - could have been so much worse! Grin

You have my sympathies, I have had similar stumbles in Molton Brown and on the QVC website, absolutely treacherous at this time of year...just too easy to slip. But, in the grand scheme, I have definitely spent less on "stuff" this year, and it has definitely been more mindful spending when I have made purchases.

Is there a website link for the shimmery purple MAC palette?

ipokebadgers yes thankfully no injuries!

I can't do a link to the actual product on macs website. But the attached is a screenshot.

Have definetly spent less this year. Credit card balance shows that!!

Oooh! Pretty purples...!

FrustratedFrugal · 15/12/2015 20:24

Very pretty! Can see why you were tempted! I'm tempted by some Zoeva stuff, would love a set of brushes and perhaps a palette. Maybe for my birthday in February. Thank god payment is via Paypal, and my card is not linked so that slows me down...

FrustratedFrugal · 16/12/2015 06:22

I am going to use this baby up in the coming weeks!

Ememem84 · 16/12/2015 07:35

Finished - body shop macadamia nut oil straightening balm. Won't be re-purchasing. It smells great but doesn't actually do anything for my hair. (Apart from make it sticky if I use too much/don't dry it properly).

Have bought it once before and can't for the life of me remember why I bought it a second time.

Will stick to frizz ease. At least that helps my hair...

Ememem84 · 20/12/2015 10:33

Bb cream. Finished. Finally.

legohurtswhenyoustandonit · 20/12/2015 14:52

Finished aloe vera body shop serum. I liked this. My skin gets dry and irritated in the winter and it helped to prevent that.

FiveShelties · 21/12/2015 23:04

Just returned from holiday and did not purchase one single perfume or cosmetic product. A major achievement.

Ememem84 · 22/12/2015 06:55

I bought clarins yesterday but as a gift. So it doesn't count. The travel size samples however.....

GuyMartinsSideburns · 22/12/2015 10:50

Soap and glory face powder compact. Was down to all the last crumbly bits but then toddler ds opened it and they fell onto the bathroom floor. But at least it's gone now Grin

Almost bought some skincare today but held back and will make a proper effort to use up the last bits I have first!

hollieberrie · 22/12/2015 11:00

I've spent the last few months using up all my old bottles of shampoo, including a horrid tea tree oil one that made my hair feel like straw. They're finally all finished and I'm going to treat myself to nice new shampoo today - woo Grin

NotQuitePerfect · 23/12/2015 07:50

Well done hollieberrie! That must be a nice feeling.

With me, it's body lotions - I've got two identical, large, nearly full ones which are too heavy & sticky, and tend to sit on the skin. Don't even ask why I bought the 2nd one Confused.

And I also have a large Garnier body lotion ready to go (the red bottle, with maple sap, recommended by Caroline Hirons no less!) which I know I love. What shall I do with the redundant ones?

Mrsmac0 · 23/12/2015 12:34

Just joined MN to join this thread! Am also a Caroline Hirons addict and have to say she's literally saved my skin. Have been buying miracle what-nots for 25 years that have done no good. As for using stuff up; have been using scrubs and foaming cleansers as masks instead as many contain salicylic acid, perfect for sloughing off the crap. My DH is sure something dodgy is going on over the fields too as am wearing a full face of make up for dog walks to use up my hoard. Villagers are whispering..

FiveShelties · 24/12/2015 17:23

I have failed! Bought No7 Ultimate Collection on offer for £37.50. It was really good to purchase something as a treat but back on the no spending wagon now.
