Hoping link to previous thread works!

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/2320549-Ashamed-of-my-beauty-product-hoard?pg=1

Continuation of the thread where I realised I was not alone in my hoarding of all things make-up/beauty/skincare/toiletries.

Lots of lovely mumsnetters who encourage each other to use and enjoy all those lovely products, and at the same time try to reduce our spending on unnecessaries!

I have sorted everything out and placed them in groups - I have enough shower gel to last the two of us for around two years. I don't think I will ever have to buy a bar of soap unless I live until I am 150. Have been stunned at the sheer amount of stuff I have and think it all started when the BOGOF or Buy Two Get One Free offers began. I cannot resist a 'bargain' and this ridiculous amount of stuff is the result! It will be a new experience to go and shop for something I actually need.

IPokeBadgers · 16/10/2015 15:54

Another empty: Clarins Hand and Nail Treatment Cream, have cut open tube and scraped out every last bit.... Have repurchased this hand cream more than once and will repurchase again in future but not for a while as have so many handcreams to get through.

Mac eyeshadow FINiSHED!!!! I would rebuy. But have about a gazillion to use up first.

IPokeBadgers · 17/10/2015 20:17

Well done Ememem!

I have chucked a random mascara from the stash: some brand called Astor. Not sure how or when I acquired it, have a notion it was sent by accident when I ordered something off eBay. Only opened it last week but felt from opening it that it was quite dry and didn't like the smell so chucked it after a couple of uses as it was a bit of a dead loss really.

I think I need to join this thread, possibly a bit late as I have just ordered a new night cream just as it was on a good offer when I got some other bits.

I have a big box of "spares" which I really need to use before buying more.

Ememem84 · 17/10/2015 22:03

Thanks!! I'm using up a freebee Dior mascara at present. As finished s bourjoius one.

Dior one is not as good.

Moved into naked 2 eyeshadow pallet.

Ememem84 · 17/10/2015 22:04

And am aiming to have finished it by March 2016

Grok · 18/10/2015 06:50

Joining this thread if I may! Need to clean out bathroom drawers and there is s drawer full of makeup and nail polish I don't wear often. Nail polish colours that look terrible on me - do I have to use up or can I throw away? They're all at least a year old, some longer.
My other hoard tends to be blusher. I just can't use it all up except my fave Mac which I'm not repurchasing until I use up these others.

Yesterday I did my makeup from this drawer and loved it - found a lippy I've had for ages that's a nice deep berry. Patted and layered on my lips for a stain effect then dabbed into my cheeks. Had a lovely wintery vibe.

Oh god, also have a stash of perfume tk get through!! Time to rediscover my hoard Blush

Ememem84 · 18/10/2015 08:20

grok don't do what I did and list it all out. You'll only get scared. but at least I now know what I have

mowglik · 18/10/2015 08:33

Thanks for the new thread need to go at this again! I've put 'things that I don't really enjoy but need using up' in a box in my bathroom and the box is so ugly I am itching to get rid of it as quickly as possible!

Going to have a makeup sort and eBay or gift things that will never be used or I like but have better alternative for

2 empties to report here Elizabeth Arden 8 hour hand cream which I love and will replace as soon as hand cream stocks get low. And LJH propolis ampoule which I have 3 back ups for Blush (all free though as sent to me due to broken bottle) - good job I love it, may share 1 with sis in aid of not hoarding

I might start keeping an empties box must be so satisfying to see them pile up

Sirzy · 18/10/2015 09:29

I have just counted I have 11 different lip glosses and that doesn't include the couple in my handbag either.

Ememem84 · 18/10/2015 10:44

What I loved, and think I said this on the old thread, was that the "use it up" seems to have transferred unconsciously to other areas of my life.

Clothes - I'm not buying new unless I need it, or really love it. and can afford it

FiveShelties · 18/10/2015 13:04

One item out - Natio Mascara - used every last bit. Very satisfying to finish something. No need to replace as others ready to take its place.

I have also moved to clothes Ememem84 - not buying any more which are not needed.

Sirzy · 18/10/2015 13:16

I am also on a "use up my candle stash" mission!

nf1morethanjustlumpsandbumps · 18/10/2015 20:41

Today I've finished up a tube of toothpaste, deodorant and an Aussie showergel. Way too much of everything in my house. We are waiting on an adapted bathroom for my son with SN and I just won't have the room so need to get a grip and use up and stop buying into miracle claims.

Ememem84 · 19/10/2015 08:34

Deodorant finished. One down. About a million to go.

Am close to finishing a clarins body lotion, and a Milton brown shower gel too!!

Costacoffeeplease · 19/10/2015 10:01

I've finished a Judith Williams moisturiser today, it's ok, but goes on very thick, so I won't re purchase as there are others I prefer

daimbardiva · 19/10/2015 11:34

Hello! So glad there's a new thread. I finished a soap and glory moisturising mist that was distinctly ordinary and won't be repurchasing and a keracare cleansing conditioner which I love but won't be repurchasing till I've finished my stash of similar products!

I am close to finishing my benefit lemon aid eye primer which I'm in a conundrum about. I like this product and it lasts me years but maybe things have moved on and I should try something new? Thoughts anyone?

FrustratedFrugal · 19/10/2015 16:48

A bottle of Nivea sunscreen (spf 15?) used up and binned. I did buy an organic olive oil lip balm as a souvenir from Greece, have quite a few others but really enjoying it.

Paperblank · 20/10/2015 08:29

One of the big things I learnt from the previous threads us that I have "holy grail" products. They work beautifully for me and then I get swayed by something or other and go off and try it, don't like it, try something else, don't like that one and so revert to the old faithful and discover it is The.Best.Thing.EVER!!!

NotQuitePerfect · 20/10/2015 08:52

Totally agree Paperblank!

Here are some of my holy grail product (from which I now realise I must not deviate) :-

Nutrogena Norwegian Formula Hand Cream (unscented - with the red top)

Lansinoh HPA Lanolin - meant to be for sore nipples but best ever night time lip balm & cuticle cream

Dove Summer Glow gradual tan body lotion

Pantene Smooth & Sleek shampoo & conditioner

Superdrug Vitamin E Hot Cloth Cleanser

Origins Vitazing Tinted Moisturiser (sadly ran out of this recently and made the foolish error of buying a No7 one which looks dull & flat on the skin, I then replaced it with a Garnier BB cream which is slightly better but still nowhere near the Vitazing stuff. So that's £20 down the drain near enough and I still need to buy the Vitazings one when I'm next in town. When will I learn Confused ?

IPokeBadgers · 20/10/2015 09:15

Another empty: a bottle of No 7 Instant Radiance foundation. Huge satisfaction in finally finishing a bottle of liquid foundation as I have several and it is actually the one make-up product that I probably use the least. [Not organised in morning so often use the Laura geller Balance and Brighten compact that lives in my handbag!]

In some ways, this feels like finishing my first ever bottle of "proper" foundation as I bought this for my wedding a couple of years ago and before that had mainly used tinted moisturisers and other really lightweight things that i suppose are now called BB creams.

Liked this product, nice lightweight coverage and I did the colour match thing at Boots and she matched me well [i was either a warm or cool vanilla, cant remember]

Needless to say, there is already another one in the stash....one great thing about this thread is I have finally accepted that I do not have to buy something from Boots every single time there if a 3 for 2 on!

Way too much of everything in my house

This is me summed up in a nutshell Lumpsandbumps!

Is it cheating to give stuff away? I've brought in some things for the girls at work because I just know I won't use them. Nothing wrong with the products as such, but they're either not quite right for my skin type, or I've "upgraded" to something else.

Also finished a couple of masks. Balance Me Radiance Face Mask: it was okay. Nothing to write home about and had a few exfoliating grains which were too big (in my opinion) and too few to do anything anyway. I wouldn't buy it. It came as a trial size in a magazine, then I got another one in a subscription box (which is now in the box for girls at work).

Oskia Renaissance Mask: Smells lovely, feels lovely, but I expect some results for that kind of money. I felt a bit smoother, but I just don't think it has enough ooomph. I'd say unless you have sensitive skin, in which case this would be a good option, and you want glow and resurfacing, get the Peter Thomas Roth Pumpkin Enzyme Mask, which is fantastic.

IPokeBadgers · 20/10/2015 16:15

I dont think we really have any strict rules for this thread in terms of what you have to do to reduce the stash: i think for a lot of folk it has been a mix of things. In some cases, use up a product, or repurpose it, bin products that have gone off, or give away products that really dont work for you for whatever reason.
