Hoping link to previous thread works!

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/2320549-Ashamed-of-my-beauty-product-hoard?pg=1

Continuation of the thread where I realised I was not alone in my hoarding of all things make-up/beauty/skincare/toiletries.

Lots of lovely mumsnetters who encourage each other to use and enjoy all those lovely products, and at the same time try to reduce our spending on unnecessaries!

I have finished Body Shop vitamin E eyes cube - very refreshing on eye area but have loads of other goodies to try out before I repurchase Grin

WellTidy · 08/08/2016 09:06

I'm really inspired by the 13 by Halloween Frugal. I've put a lot of thought into my list so that I'm not including only items that I see as a cop out, but I am also including items that will require a concentrate effort to finish. I'm determined to enjoy them too!

My list is: Body moisturiser, two hand creams, 3 shower gels, fake tan, perfume, serum, bubble bar, blusher, eye make up remover, cleansing pads.

IPokeBadgers · 08/08/2016 10:48

Finished the small l'occy shower gel that I took on holiday (and brought back again) as well as one of the very small Molton Brown Shower gels you sometimes get as a freebie when you buy full size products.

In theory I like the idea of 13 things by Halloween, but I know that I am just not disciplined enough! ;0)

I like the idea of 13 by Halloween. I'm taking loads of travel sizes on holiday on Thursday. Let's see how many I can use up!

FrustratedFrugal · 08/08/2016 17:53

Thanks for joining the challenge!

1/13 done - it was just a Tresemme coconut conditioner sample, and it was not bad.

kwick · 08/08/2016 17:56

Woohoo!!! Already one down Frustrated!!!!! Well done!!

FreeButtonBee · 08/08/2016 18:22

I survived the holiday without any unnecessary purchases. Although I was delayed for two hours at the airport 3 small children put paid to any shopping!

Not much finished recently so time to push on. Need to reorganise everything as stuff is all over the place with hols/weekends away etc

crookedhooker · 08/08/2016 19:26

Finished the last of a pot of intensive conditioner. John Frieda sheer blonde. I loved this particular one but its been discontinued. Sadly excited about choosing a different one this weekend. Ive been using remainders for the past year.

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 08/08/2016 19:49

Hi a newbie here.
loving the thread. Read it all in a binge after becoming mortified at the amount of stuff I have but rarely use. You guys have inspired me! I'm making a list (prob checking it twice) and will definitely try to reduce the stuff.

FrustratedFrugal · 08/08/2016 20:18

Welcome AnotherPinkie! Do an inventory first mine took forever, then start with some samples or half-used products. Getting rid of multiples is deeply satisfying!

MrsDilligaf · 08/08/2016 20:25

Been flicking through Pintrest this afternoon and pinning lots of eyeshadow looks. It was supposed to inspire me to use up my stash but all its done is made me want more! Not the point of the exercise. Not the point at all.

(Am a regular - NC cause I got bored of being named paperblank.)

FrustratedFrugal · 08/08/2016 20:28

Bee well done!!!

crooked I've also loved Sheer Blonde products and think I've owned the pot too (Aveda Damage Remedy is what I am currently using, it really helped when my hair was a bit crunchy post-holidays) . Perhaps I liked Sheer Blonde stuff a bit too much - I still have a couple of Dream Creams for flyaways --bought in the early 2000s- Wink

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 08/08/2016 21:17

Thanks. Will do. May need to do in secret away from DH who owns 1 shampoo bar and a bright green hair gel from the 90's.
Will aim for 13 list first.

kwick · 09/08/2016 08:06

Welcome anotherpinkie!!!

mrsdilli/paper I saw a dupes video on You Tube the other day where the youtuber dud half her face in dupes and half in real thing and I LOVED her look so bought the eyeshadow dupe.... Only I bought the wrong set... So bow have dilemma if do I try again to get the right one? Managed to create a real nice look with one I got but I want to match what is on Youtube Angry

WellTidy · 09/08/2016 08:58

I'm going to write my 13 by Halloween list here so that I have a record of it. At the moment, its on a scrap of paper that I'm sure to lose!

Rituals body moisturiser 250 ml
Crabtree and Evelyn rose hand cream 100 ml
Cath Kidston honeysuckle hand cream 50 ml
Molton Brown orange shower gel 200 ml (I think)
Rituals shower foam (200 ml again I think)
Body Shop olive shower gel (200 ml)
St Tropez fake tan (seems huge)
Estee Lauder advanced night repair 30ml
Lush bubble bar
Estee Lauder pleasures perfume 30 ml
Estee Lauder blusher (I have already hit pan slightly on this, so very nearly there)
Simple eye make up remover 100ml
Simple pack of cleansing wipes 30 pack

I know that the cleansing wipes are a cop out, but I need easy gains as well as hard wins!

Go Frugal on the remaining 12.

Another I also have a DH who uses next to no products. He doesn't even use separate shower gel and shampoo. Washes his hair in shower gel and it looks lovely. Doesn't use aftershave or face products beyond shaving gel. No hair products at all. So basically, he uses shower gel, shaving gel and deodorant. And athletes foot cream Smile. My stash is obscene.

FreeButtonBee · 09/08/2016 11:22

Finished a Clinique TTDO balm. I liked it but didn't love it. On the look out for a replacement as am back to work in 4 weeks so will be wearing a bit more makeup. Any recs? Skin is normal, bit dehydrated but well managed with lovely Asian beauty serums and essences.

kwick · 09/08/2016 18:20

free please provide serum recommendations Grin

For cleansers here are my favoutites:

  • superdrug vitamin e hot cloth
  • superdrug brilliant radiance hot cloth (something radiance)
  • body shop camomille butter
  • no7 cleansing oil
  • loreal age perfect cleanser (one with salycilic acid)

Great list welltidy

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 09/08/2016 22:53

❏ Soap & glory mother pucker lip gloss
❏ Tony moly white eyeshadow pen

dogdaydisaster · 10/08/2016 10:31

I'm inspired by the Halloween challenge and am going to give it a go with these 13:

Bare minerals lipstick
Tarte mascara
Body shop camomile cleanser
Liz Earle body lotion
Laura geller Pink lip pencil
Mally brown eye liner
Philosophy shower gel
REN retinol night cream
Bourjois pink liquid lipstick
Elemis apricot toner
Rodial facial oil
Light blue perfume
Tata Harper mini rejuvenating serum

That's quite a stretch, but I'll give it a go!

FreeButtonBee · 10/08/2016 12:14

I like hylamide which is £££ but really does the job.

A very reasonably priced Japanese hydrating serum/essence is the Hada Labo premium lotion stuff about £10 for 180ml so you can slap on generously and it lasts for ever. You can get it on amazon and shipping is pretty fast.

The LJH tea tree essence is nice for balancing skin. Not deeply hydrating but adds a little some. About £15 for 50ml

I LOVE the miss honey and me flower honey oil essence - I use on top of a hydrating serum/essence and then put a lift layer of moisturiser on top. Heavenly skin

All these serums are much lighter than standard western ones. Hey are not in a el or cream form but light lotions or runny gels - but I find them much better for my skin than silicone filled traditional serums. And I can use a mega light moisturiser even in winter -

FreeButtonBee · 10/08/2016 12:16

And thanks for the recs kwick - I may try the body shop camomile one. Not very fond of the super drug ones from memory. May also consider the Emma harder one if m&s has a beauty event some time soon.

dogdaydisaster · 10/08/2016 12:34

I'm delighted to see some Korean skincare recommendations here- the other thread is dauntingly long. Will look at those serums when I've used some others up.

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 10/08/2016 13:23

Finished a Charlotte Tilbury night cream (on feet as way too perfumed to use on upper body for my sensitive eyes). 1 down!

FreeButtonBee I love Emma hardie too but prefer Elemis as softer. Ultra bland from lush is awesome but much oilier.
Loving serum recommendations too. I've never bothered but think time has come.
Any eye cream recommendations for someone with sensitive eyes?

Ememem84 · 10/08/2016 16:31

Ok. I am taking the following on holiday:

Clarins foundation- skin illusion

Night cream -about a quarter left
Eye balm -about half finished
Body lotion - new but needs using
facial sunscreen
Cleanser and a toner
Eye make up remover
Simple travel make up wipes
Boots green cucumber wipes
All of the above are clarins. I will replace.

Shampoo and conditioner tresseme silk travel size.
Full size herbal essences dry shampoo -may ditch this whole away or pass to my sil who will continue travelling.

Naked 2 pallet. Determined to return with one shade panned!

I am not planning on bringing get much of the above back with me.

FrustratedFrugal · 10/08/2016 16:58

Great picks Ememem, have a great trip!

I had a momentary lapse of control yersterday when I was killing time before a meeting - I bought a pale lilac Rimmel nail varnish. Going to try it tonight, I am addicted to candy colored fingernails.

To offset, I've hit pan on a Sensai powder compact sample that I use as bronzer. Still some left but I am loving the product - it matches my hyperpigmentation and helps to blend it in.
