Hoping link to previous thread works!

Continuation of the thread where I realised I was not alone in my hoarding of all things make-up/beauty/skincare/toiletries.

Lots of lovely mumsnetters who encourage each other to use and enjoy all those lovely products, and at the same time try to reduce our spending on unnecessaries!

dog and five great progress!!
I have taken the executive decision to take my last glut of small size Molton Brown stuff on holiday with me - but I will buy shampoo and conditioner out there.
I have really made a dent in all my sample size stuff - still have some stashed lip balm, hand creams, deoderants and shower gels.

Has anyone tried the new Estee Lauder foundation with a sponge applicator?

Ememem84 · 22/07/2016 07:25

kwick that's what I'm doing. Sample sizes on holidays. And decanting things into smaller bottles for holidays.

Am also almost done with a bottle of frizz ease!

confusedandemployed · 22/07/2016 07:44

Morning everyone. Can I join? I'm off on hols today so unlikely to make muhammad progress but I urgently need to address the make up and beauty products situation!

I don't think I've ever finished an item of make up but instead of chucking them I hoard them all. So I have dozens and dozens of eyeshadows , lipsticks etc which look crap on me now - they were bought ages ago for a younger skin than mine is now!

I also have a big selection of beauty products after following Caroline Hirons advice and having at least 3 sorts of everything on the go. So I have 7 cleansers which I use in strict rotation, 4 eye creams, 3 toners etc. I can't in all honesty say it's made a blind bit of difference to my skin. I used to just use cleansing wipes (shock horror ), cold water, spritz a bit of toner and Cien moisturiser or sometimes Astral at night.

Should I have seen a difference? Because I'm inclined to use up my stash and just buy one of each thing in future.

kwick · 22/07/2016 18:21

LOL and welcome confused!!!! I too have followed Caroline Hirons advice and have loads of different cleansers... But do not use on strict rotation just on what I am feeling like. I can't say my skin is now amazeballs but I feel like I am treating it better... I am still looking for the magic combination of products though.

I completely hear you on the make-up front - maybe chuck anything that smells odd or why not just chuck the lot and start again?

applesandpears33 · 22/07/2016 19:30

Finished off a bottle of sun lotion. This is slow going!

or why not just chuck the lot and start again ......................Ooh kwick you Enabler Grin

Small OGX conditioner gone and one more day with my Absinthe Bodyshop (handwash but I love the smell so I shower with it)

WellTidy · 22/07/2016 20:35

Feeling very positive and encouraged now, as I have some empties. I seemed to go for ages without a single one. Today's empties are a body moisturiser that is a staple for me as it has 5% urea and that is what I need for my lizard skin and kp. A little goes such a long way, so it has lasted ages. Also finished two travel size shampoo and conditioner.

I am taking loads of miniatures with me on holiday too. I am really looking forward to finishing them. We are in a hotel for the first week and an apartment for the second week. I am going to break the habit of a lifetime and actually use the hotel stuff whilst I am there, and allow DH to do the same(!), rather than bring them home for my stash. I've checked and they're occitane. Phew. And then I will plough through my miniatures in the second week.

I'm planning on taking 100 ml body moisturiser (Molton brown). Do you think it's enough? Or too much? It is a sun holiday.

WellTidy · 22/07/2016 20:37

70 I have that body shop absinthe hand cream in my stash. I haven't used it yet as I have so many and it's about 100ml. What do you think of it as a hand cream? I'm wondering whether to hold onto it or pass it on.

FreeButtonBee · 22/07/2016 20:56

100ml of body lotion is LOAds.

I finished my swell shampoo today (brill for fine greasy hair). Have another in stock. Have just chopped my hair so experimenting with conditioner. I may have to use a kiddy leave in conditioner and rinse it out. My hair is so fine that it really can't handle much. Even the swell conditioner is too much except on the tiniest half inch of my ends.

Am reaching the end of a few facial products. Exciting times.

Fancyasandwichbacon1 · 22/07/2016 21:05

Well I'm making good progress in using up my no.7 tinted lip balm that I've been wearing at work by actually remembering to re apply it! Lol. Also makes me feel better at work!
Also by using up some of my different hair products I've actually discovered some new combinations of products that work, possibly better than my previous routine. Have long curly hair that took me ages to learn how to make look good so despite buying and having a large stash of products have used the same mousse and spray combo for months and months thinking this was the only one that worked! Added bonus of using up some of my collection!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 23/07/2016 09:11

Well it was the handcream that made me buy the handwash (I'm Sad they don't do a showergel though)

It's lighter than my L'Occitane Shea so ideal for daytime and I love the smell.

I used up the dregs of DD conditioning mask (I have it clingfilmed into my hair right now Grin ) She'll give me a dirty look and make me buy her a new jar. Because she doesn't Get The Rules Of Beauty Hoard.

FiveShelties · 23/07/2016 11:36

Just finished a large Vaseline Cocoa Radiant Total Moisture which I really liked - I have had it for ages and it was really inexpensive. I would re-buy but I suppose it will come as no surprise to learn that I do have the odd moisturiser lurking in the stash.Grin

kwick · 23/07/2016 16:39

Yes.... I admit it: I AM an enabler Blush

kwick · 25/07/2016 19:33

I have 3 empties today - all full size which perhaps maybe go somewhere to counteracting today's splurges in Primark, Boots and John Lewis??!!!

  • Nivea in shower moisturiser for dry skin: I love, love, love this for the smell, ease of use and results. None in stock but will not repurchase until I have used up hoards of other body creams
  • Wilkinson (I think) Intuition shaver that has built in moisture thing: great product, will likely repurchase when I get through my disposable razor stock
  • Dr Organic dead sea mineral bio-plasma mud mask: not the best I have ever used... So please tell me why I have hoarded two more Dr Organic flavour masks: rose and manuka honey Confused
70isaLimitNotaTarget · 25/07/2016 20:02

I had some empties over the weekend (in time for the recycling today)

Shampoo
Shower gel
Some of DS skincare

kwick · 26/07/2016 19:54

I have finished a full suze Norfolk Lavender Olive Waterlily & Lavender shower gel which I was using as hand wash. Was a gift.

Fancyasandwichbacon1 · 26/07/2016 20:06

Couple of empties today! Yay! Finished a dove body oil that I don't think you can actually get anymore! It was nice tho, didn't sit on the skin like some body oils so would maybe try another dove one when I've used up the others! Picked a small bottle to use next for the quicker gratification when it's empty!
Also used a shower gel and half way through another so can pick a new one out the stash soon! Still doggedly working my through my simple eye make up remover! It lasts forever! It's good though so as and when the time comes I would repurchase it as it gets my eyeliner and multiple coats of mascara off that I like to wear.
I love this thread!

Fancyasandwichbacon1 · 26/07/2016 20:07

Quicker gratification? Not sure that's the best English!

Ememem84 · 26/07/2016 21:39

Ended up with more in the stash today. Went to buy Dh some clarins for his birthday. And there was a special offer.

Two items and I got a free summer beauty bag (4 travel sized products). Three items and I got a free full size moisturiser and exfoliator.

Ememem84 · 27/07/2016 07:34

Three empties today 3!!!!

John frieda brilliant brunette shampoo
John frieda brilliant brunette conditioner
Banana boat aloe Vera gel (it's gone all wierd and watery)

Have a spare Jf shampoo in the cupboard but no conditioner (bought on 3 for 2 in boots). The shampoo has been put in the shower with a half used aussi conditioner.

New grapefruit moisturiser is out and ready for tomorrow.

dogdaydisaster · 27/07/2016 13:38

Ooh grapefruit moisturiser sounds nice.....

kwik, I'm dying to try the in shower moisuriser, but need to use up a couple of others first.

I do sort of follow CH skincare routine and my skin is loads better. I think it's as a result of two things; the 2 cleansers so now my skin is really clean, and the acids. I'm not using really anything mega expensive, mostly nip and fab pads with a bit of liquid gold once a week, but I definitely see the difference.

Another empty here -the Boots No 7 youthful eye cream. Lasted forever! It was nice but I'd maybe prefer something 'wetter' rather than a cream as this seemed to get in my eyes when I was trying to read in bed.

dogdaydisaster · 27/07/2016 14:21

Sat at my desk and just finished another hand cream mini. L'Occitane 20% shea butter in Delightful Rose. i'm a big fan of their hand creams, but this scent wasn't my favourite.

i have three more minis in my drawer, and will use the almond next. The other two I don't love so will sneak them onto my feet while I'm working in the hope that they'll help the dryness.

kwick · 27/07/2016 20:07

Good work fancy, eme and dogday!!

dogday do tell more about the liquid gold Grin

Ememem84 · 27/07/2016 20:08

dogday body shop body butter in grapefruit. It's my fave. I have about 12 thousand in the cupboard.....
