Hoping link to previous thread works!

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/2320549-Ashamed-of-my-beauty-product-hoard?pg=1

Continuation of the thread where I realised I was not alone in my hoarding of all things make-up/beauty/skincare/toiletries.

Lots of lovely mumsnetters who encourage each other to use and enjoy all those lovely products, and at the same time try to reduce our spending on unnecessaries!

Ipokebadgers well done - its funny how it is easier to get through stuff whilst on holiday - I guess it is the approach of sticking to one product?

I have two more empties to report: M&S Sun Smart aftersun creme gel - I LOVE this stuff, which I think has been discontinued Sad I have two left in stash.
L'occitane gentle toner travel size - has taken me an age to get through this - was an amenity in a hotel, would never buy as I cannot work out what it does Confused

Fancyasandwichbacon1 · 02/08/2016 23:30

Loving this thread. It's stopping me buy more things!! Except perfume but that's another story!
So no empties today but I started on a body lotion that's in a spray can a few days ago and quite like the convenience so was tempted yesterday to buy another by a different brand that was cheap in savers type shop but refrained after thinking about how many body lotions/oils I have already! So thank you for stopping my stash from growing!
The perfume is another matter. I cannot resist trying new ones, cheap or expensive. Doesn't matter. In fact from a recommendation on the perfume lovers thread I bought the Lynx body spray/fragrance type thing in tobacco and Amber and had several compliments on the smell at work and it was only £6! It's lovely!

I was very pleased with myself on holiday, as resisted the urge to just buy stuff in the French pharmacies (I know a lot of their brands have an almost cult-following)....of course would love to try the different skincare but just couldn't justify buying more stuff.

Also resisted the impulse to spend in Sephora and Kiko stores....again, would have loved to but just thought "No! you have enough!" #Smug

It is slow progress here. I've finished a clinique lipstick and a bubble bath, but nothing else for a couple of weeks. The more important thing though is that I've got out of the mentality of always buying stuff. It will all get used up at some point!

FrustratedFrugal · 03/08/2016 19:35

Badgers that's quite something -well done!!!

Apples finishing a lipstick is a big thing, and stopping constant buying even better!

I am trying to use up two bright lipsticks this summer. I love creamy and velvety textures but they tend to fade way too quickly. When these are gone, my next bright lipstick will be a budge-proof liquid lipstick.

FreeButtonBee · 03/08/2016 21:21

Finished a sample size tub of aromatherapy associates body cream (was lovely).

I did buy toothpaste, nail varnish remover and dry shampoo but all holiday essentials which I can leave at my parents' holiday house. I don't have duplicates at home so I waited to buy them here to save space/weight in my luggage.

kwick · 04/08/2016 07:27

ipokebadgers aka #smug you are doing so well! I do not have your willpower. #weak

Although I did resist lots of tempting things in Duty Free yesterday - but did pick up a Korres deoderant to replace nearly finished one in travel bag (I travel so much I have this constantly stocked).

My lovely mummy bought me Stella McCartney "Stella" (which I think is slowly being discontinued - which is always the way when I find a perfume I love, that or they go and change the formula).

IPokeBadgers · 04/08/2016 09:06

Thanks Frugal and Kwick, I am pleased with myself because I was itching to spend money....but I just knew that it was spending almost for the sake of spending.

All I was going to do was make the bank account lighter, my suitcase heavier and the cupboards at home more cluttered. So a win on all three counts....

still haven't managed to finished that little l'occy shower gel that came back with me though....I think it is regenerating in the bottle....

Wow I have FINALLY finished one of those small Evian water sprays - best before 2012! I got given 3 a few weeks ago so I need to incorporate into my routine but where?

kwick stick one in the car for when it's nasty and sticky. Spritz on your face and whack the aircon up to freeze.

Very refreshing.

kwick · 05/08/2016 15:44

Thanks paperblank I would if I had a car Grin

It's all been going on here whilst I've been away! Fantastic progress all.

Whilst in holiday, I used up:
2 X tresemme shampoo 100 ml
Tresemme conditioner 100ml
Molton brown body moisturiser 100 ml (this took serious concentrated effort, I didn't realise that body moisturiser seems to go a very long way)
3 X eye cream samples, Clinique and occitane
2 small soaps
Remainder of the Garnier micellar water (I've night bioderma to replace it on the recommendation of so many of you)
Remainder of Estée Lauder pleasures perfume

However. However. I did pick up lots of hotel minatures as they were so generously restocked every day. And now i have masses of occitane verbena 30ml miniatures. I love them, but I have 4 X each of shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and body lotion. And two small soaps which are exfoliating.

kwick · 06/08/2016 07:45

Well done welltidy!
Bioderma is a great choice!

Ememem84 · 06/08/2016 08:29

Ok! Holiday time! I fly off on Thursday. And am planning on taking small bottles of everything with me.

In the next two weeks I need to use up:
-clarins cleanser
-nighttime moisturiser clarins
-exfoliator clarins

I'm taking my naked 2 pallet and am determined to hit pan on one shade.

A mineral foundation (I hate it but it's a good shade for me)

Sample size face wipes and eye makeup remover.

Will decant moisturiser into a small tub.

kwick · 06/08/2016 09:07

Best of luck to you em!

A sad day has come: end of one of the very few fragrances I actually like - Agua de Naranjos de Sevilla. Sad will probably restock when next in Spain.

FrustratedFrugal · 06/08/2016 09:15

I'm joining the Finish 13 by Halloween challenge.

Will probably include samples and sheet masks in the total count as it's less than 3 months!

Ememem84 · 06/08/2016 09:46

kwick my Spanish is a bit rusty. Orangey scent??

kwick · 06/08/2016 17:48

Thanks frustrated for sharing that link - I am going to try and do 13 too... But should I pre-identify the products do you think?

em yes it is an Orange blossom fragrance - I used to live in Seville and the streets are lined with orange trees and when they are blossoming the scent is amazeballs.

Managed to burn myself digging at the allotment!

FrustratedFrugal · 06/08/2016 19:37

If it helps, you can pre-identify what you will use up by the end of October.
I will work on the following: several nearly used up lipsticks (at least four!), an eye palette, a shampoo, a blusher, a deodorant, two half-used mini toothpastes, some mineral foundation, plus a few samples...

kwick · 06/08/2016 21:51

Okay so "challenge accepted" frustrated!!! I was really inspired by your 13 by Halloween suggestion and have identified said products and made a list on my list app!!!! So exciting!!!!

kwick · 06/08/2016 21:52

Here are my items...

kwick · 06/08/2016 21:54

Oh cr** it cropped them... Anyway I promise I have identified 13 items - some very full, others mid way and others near the end - and probs well past their expiry date!!!!

woodhill · 06/08/2016 21:59

Sounds good.

I found a shampoo I didn't know
I had today.

kwick · 07/08/2016 08:17

I have finished another freebie Evian facial spray - thanks to my raging sunburn. I have one left to use up Grin
