How pretty do you have to be to pull off a pixie cut?

Short hair suits me (IMHO) but ATM I have a longish fringe and some body to it.

I'm thinking of going much shorter because the current do takes quite a bit of doing, can't take any moisture in the air without flopping and I think it's a bit dated/aging.

However, I'm an ordinary looking middle aged woman, rarely wear make-up and I have a larger than average nose!

Just personal opinion, I've said it recently on another thread but I think when people imagine pixie cuts they imagine Halle Berry and Charlize Theron but the reality is more Denise Welsh and Janice Battersby.

In other words I think although it's low maintenance it's very unforgiving.

I don't think the larger nose counts you out though - are your eyes quite large too? If so I think having large eyes balances it out

What rules a pixie cut out in my opinion is 'mannish' features like a square jaw, no cheekbones etc

I think slim pretty women with fantastic bone structure suit pixie crops (Michelle Williams, Charlize Theron, Sienna Miller). I don't think many 'regular' folk look good with them.

I'm slim with a narrow slightly heart shaped face, long and straight does nothing for me at all, it's just the nose !

I used to have very short hair. It's still short but it's more layered/ choppy now. I have small features and wear loads of makeup. I can't grow it (I would, though, now I'm er....getting on).

I have a friend who is in her 60s with a crop and she looks great (admittedly she's very slim, almost boyish, with fab cheekbones).

I have decent bone structure and am not hideous, but I ain't no Charlize Theron either and I definitely look better with short (even very short) hair than with long. You do need a good hairdresser though.

Meant to add why should your nose be a problem? Add some volume to balance your face and don't have a centre parting and you'd look fine. Could you try on some wigs?

Ask your hairdresser for his/her advice to see whether it would suit you, or to cut it too suit your features. I think it's a great haircut.

I like the look of my hair flatish from the front, it's just when I catch a glimpse from the side, I realise that it could be a problem.

I'm a hairdresser and the thought that you need to be thin and pretty to pull one off is crap.

However, a badly cut pixie can look ok on a gorgeous girl but horrendous on your average middle aged woman! You need someone who is great with short hair and to choose the right style.

I'm a size 12 with no defined jaw and I hop between a soft, long layered pixie cut like Carey Mulligans, and a short bob. I would look daft with a Halle Berry or Jennifer Lawrence style one. I need something to frame my face so I always keep it slightly longer in front.

I love that jean seberg look and am envious of anyone who can carry it off I would fear the Pat butcher effect on me but agree with Mrsdevere go the whole hog and no spikes I do think you need an exceptional bone structure though

I don't think it's very flattering to anybody tbh. Even pretty people would look better with longer hair. And a lot of people look downright awful.

I suit pixie cut and I'm not at all pretty but I have good cheekbones and small features (inc. v small eyes). It seems to open up my face. I also look better if I have long hair worn up. But now I'm old and have a really bad frown line in the middle of my forehead, I think I can't do the pixie anymore as the fringe is too short .

Yes, a really short, flat Jean Seberg ( had to google her ) is what I want.

I read once that a pixie cut is more successful if your head sticks out more at the back.

The texture of your hair is important too. Some hair shapes the skull better than others.

I think you need a certain small/delicate face. So a really pretty woman with bold or strong features (eg Florence W) it wouldn't work on.

I have a round face but my head is also very round so I fear I'd look like a Brussels sprout if I got one.

I look much better with shorter hair than I did with it long, fine and limp dragging my face down. I think lots of people do, Twiggy, Emma Watson, Victoria Beckham.

I'm just not sure exactly how short...
