Sorry but can I ask how you remove hair "down there"?

Firstly I'd like to apologise if this is tmi or inappropriate...I hope it's not.

I'm really fighting a losing battle with this one.

I like to stay completely clean down there, like after a Brazilian, but waxing just hurts to much and I don't like having to go to a salon.

Shaving is easier but it grows back too quickly and I get inflamed hair sacks so get lots of red spots....not the look I'm after.

What magic tricks am I missing? Surely there's an easy, pain free method of getting smooth without the pain?

Men shave down there too though so it's not just us women.

I have never known any man to do it- and if they do I suspect they are under 30, and it is definitely the porn influence.
DH cringes at the idea of a shaved pussy. Prickly and childlike.
If women don't like their pubic hair fine- get rid- but I still think it's nothing to do with hygiene ( a quick trim with some scissors would sort the undergrowth, no need for complete removal) and much more to do with wanting to look as they did pre-puberty. Even if they don't acknowledge it.

Feckeggblue · 04/04/2015 09:44

Oh well if you haven't known a man to do it pink it's obviously doesn't happen Easter Wink

Koalafications · 04/04/2015 09:50

Why would only people under 30 be 'influenced by the porn industry'?

Do men and women over 30 not watch porn?

SinclairSpectrum · 04/04/2015 09:51

Just taken a straw poll of the 50ish male cops working for me today - I appreciate its hardly scientific but they do span the ages 20-55.
Not one has a bald pubic region.
Some of the younger lot trim - they say it makes their cock look bigger.
Not one mentioned cleanliness or knicker elastic Wink

Koalafications · 04/04/2015 09:55

Yes, ok. I'll admit it, I shave to make my fanjo look bigger.

meglet · 04/04/2015 09:56

I do my own Brazillians , started doing that 15yrs ago. it's less sweaty when I'm at the gym and made my periods easier to clean up (when I had them). I've been a single parent for 6 yrs so no one is ever going to see my undercarriage.

tbh, my bikini line and underarm hair is removed more regularly than my leg hair. I'm hairy and it feels breezier without it.

SinclairSpectrum · 04/04/2015 10:00

As for the over 30 porn comment, I think the assumption is that those of us over 40 can remember when porn stars had fanny hair.
It is now a specialist category, like bdsm or group anal. It is treated like a 'kink' to find women with pubic hair attractive.
That makes me feel a bit sad.

Feckeggblue · 04/04/2015 10:03

I suspect over 30s are less likely to follow fashion.

I do think it's faintly ridiculous to suggest people are following if copying porn. Otherwise we'd be walking round in those awful plastic stripper shoes and no knickers. It's fashion and pop culture which has taken it's lead from porn and that's what the woman on the street is following/ copying. It's insulting to her to suggest she wants to look like a porn star

mindalina · 04/04/2015 10:06

fun fact - body hair moves sweat away from the skin. you are therefore much more likely to stink if you remove it. I shaved my armpits in the summer for the first time in months and stunk for two weeks before it grew back in. disgusting. wouldn't remove my pubic hair if you paid me. I'm with the pp who said about the personal being political. if you want to do stupid shit like this then that's your prerogative, but don't try and pretend there isn't a wider issue about infantilising women's bodies.

passmethewineplease · 04/04/2015 10:07

I trim. for the same reasons as which

My DP also trims, not because of porn but because he is one hairy begger. I'm talking everywhere.

I'd rather not get short and curlys in my mouth whilst ahem you know.

I personally don't care what people do with their body hair.

It is their body and I'm not about to be incredibly patronizing and tell them why they are doing it. Hmm

pinkfrocks · 04/04/2015 10:21

My DP also trims, not because of porn but because he is one hairy begger. I'm talking everywhere. I'd rather not get short and curlys in my mouth whilst ahem you know.

So otherwise he'd have hair right down the length of his penis? Shock

DH is covered in hair like a gorilla - all over- back and front. Hair has never been an issue. Most men do not have hairy penises.

CookPassBabtrigde · 04/04/2015 10:25

I think that is why these threads get so frothy is that those who strip refuse to acknowledge either of those things and claim that it is all their own idea.

A think it's got a bit frothy because a bunch of women are getting told why they make their personal choices by complete strangers on the internet and are having to justify what they do with their pubic hair.
A lot of nasty judgemental comments thrown the way of those who remove their hair and not a single nasty comment the other way, or an interrogation as to why those women keep their hair. No one has said 'why don't you shave it off'.

The OP asked for a recommendation of a good product. She didn't ask whether you all think she should do it.

CookPassBabtrigde · 04/04/2015 10:28

Sorry that was meant to say 'why don't you just shave it off', as in a suggestion.

Koalafications · 04/04/2015 10:31

Agree CookPass

SinclairSpectrum · 04/04/2015 10:41

Because your "choices" become law for future generations of women.
You are fucking over your own kind by pretending its normal to rip out your pubes.
That's why other women get a bit frothy

SkaterGrrrrl · 04/04/2015 10:44

"It doesn't affect you at all so why are you so bothered and rude about it?"

Sigh Because your 'personal', 'individual' choices shape our culture and society. While you are all furiously beavering (ahem) away removing every last public hair, you are forming a society in which pubic hair is unacceptable. I have a 3 year old daughter. You are creating a world for her in which her vulva is dirty, disgusting and wrong.

pinkfrocks · 04/04/2015 10:45

No one has said 'why don't you shave it off'.

Errr...but they have implied it is unsavoury to have hair there that they smell and it catches in their knickers (FGS!)
Then when challenged they say 'Oh just meant me ' as if their fannies were completely different to other women's, with zillions more sweat glands and masses of hair down to their ankles.

This topic always creates strong reactions on MN .
The reason, quite simply, is that us hairy lot are older and can't understand why younger women would want to do this- because it is a fashion, it does have suggestions of the porn industry, of paedophilia- how can it not???- and the comments about it being cleaner are disproved by gynaecologists and dermatologists- so that argument doesn't stack up.

It's an emotive topic because many women feel that women have been slowly brainwashed into thinking they ought to shave their fannies. No one used to, and I can't believe for a minute that up until maybe 10 years ago, all women went around with smelly mingy fanjos. Which is the implication.

KatoPotato · 04/04/2015 10:46

I wonder if the wicker peacock chair in my bedroom is inspired by porn...

I'm very preggo so thanks for the nair tip.

PurpleSwift · 04/04/2015 10:50

Do all those against it get so passionate about men shaving their faces? Tell them it's weird they want to look "prepubescent" and scoff at them when they say they feel cleaner for it? Or do you just prefer tearing down the choice your own sex make?

SkaterGrrrrl · 04/04/2015 10:52

There are so many references to minging/stinky/dirty/sweaty on this thread.

Women who remove tehir pibic hair have trully internalised teh narrative taht the vahina is evil/other/dangerous and must be punished (wuite literally: hot wax on a place with so many nerve endings??) with expensive, time consuming, painful punishments to render it sexless, childlike, unthreatenishing and inhiman.

pinkfrocks · 04/04/2015 10:53

That's not a very clever analogy purple. Try harder.

CookPassBabtrigde · 04/04/2015 10:53

Because your "choices" become law for future generations of women.

Well it's clearly not law as plenty of people still don't do it and women have been removing it for several years.
Are you assuming every woman under the age of 30 removes their hair? I'm sure they don't. Nor do all women over the age of 40 keep it. Or do you see every woman's fanjo so you know exactly who does what?
It might not be cleaner, but women say it makes them feel cleaner. It's their body, they can do what they like without having to feel like they're 'fucking over their own kind' Hmm

Koalafications · 04/04/2015 10:53

So women can't make choices of their own, because that stops other generations from making choices of their own? So at what point is anyone allowed to choose for themselves whether they want pubic hair or not?
