Sorry but can I ask how you remove hair "down there"?

Firstly I'd like to apologise if this is tmi or inappropriate...I hope it's not.

I'm really fighting a losing battle with this one.

I like to stay completely clean down there, like after a Brazilian, but waxing just hurts to much and I don't like having to go to a salon.

Shaving is easier but it grows back too quickly and I get inflamed hair sacks so get lots of red spots....not the look I'm after.

What magic tricks am I missing? Surely there's an easy, pain free method of getting smooth without the pain?

Shaving isn't painful or expensive, though.

I don't feel any society pressure to remove my pubic hair, I'm just wondering who actually does?

Icimoi · 04/04/2015 12:03

But, Only1scoop, the fact that you have hair down there or under your arms really doesn't make you more stinky if you wash normally. Can you tell from the way other women smell whether they have body hair or not? Men don't usually shave their pubic hair or underarm hair, yet plenty of them seem to avoid body odour. These reasons simply don't bear close examination.

SinclairSpectrum · 04/04/2015 12:05

If there was no pressure why would women be lining up at waxing salons to have hot wax applied to their vaginas then their pubes ripped out?
And shaving I more expensive than not shaving, as for pain please see upthread for all the tips on how to avoid stubble rash, itchy regrowth, shaving burn etc...

passmethewineplease · 04/04/2015 12:10

Pinkfrocks no he doesn't have a hairy penis per se but no matter what he er malts. Every single time.

there's no sexy way to pull a pube out of your mouth. believe me I've tried

Koalafications · 04/04/2015 12:11

Because they want to maybe?

I really don't see it, I don't feel it either. I must be blind to this societal pressure.

SinclairSpectrum · 04/04/2015 12:14

Koala - guessing from name you may be from Australia?
Not sure how pube culture translates across the world, certainly in the UK I think there is huge subliminal pressure on young women to be pube free.
Apologies if you are a born and bred Brit.

pinkfrocks · 04/04/2015 12:17

passme what are 'er malts'?
Pulling a pubic hair out of my mouth really doesn't phase me (or DH) at all- it's just part of the fun. Mind you, you must be going at it somewhat to get them stuck in your teeth. I'd be far more phased by a man who felt he needed to shave to make himself acceptable to me.

Only1scoop · 04/04/2015 12:17

Thanks.... but I'm 42 and have tried and tested hairy and smoothish....

I'm happy as I am

passmethewineplease · 04/04/2015 12:19

I sometimes shave and don't feel any pain.

During or after.

My daughter did one ask why I had a teddy bear bum...that was fun.

Koalafications · 04/04/2015 12:21

Well I'm Irish but have mostly grown up in SE England Sinclair.

passmethewineplease · 04/04/2015 12:21

pink* his hair is everywhere. On everything. Sorry I disagree that pulling pubes out my mouth is fun. I honestly don't understand why you're questioning what i be said about my own DP. Unless you think I'm making it up. Confused

Floisme · 04/04/2015 12:25

These threads always make me feel like that Japanese solder who hid in the jungle for 29 years because he didn't believe WW2 was over.

It's not every day you'll hear me say this but thank god I'm old. The first time I ever heard about plucked fannies being a thing, I truly thought it was a piss take.

Only1scoop · 04/04/2015 12:26

Pass ....mr Scoops clock spring hairs are so long he has to take an inch off every couple of months. I really fear their would be dreadlocks down there otherwise. I prefer floss sticks myself to unkempt pubes.

Only1scoop · 04/04/2015 12:28

There would

pinkfrocks · 04/04/2015 12:32

Oh so now the hairless women are saying that men ought to shave as well.
FGS this is just mad.
I suppose in a new relationship you'd insist they guy shaved before you went down on him. Justin case you got one of those horrible hairs in your mouth. Yuck what an utterly dreadful thought.

Only1scoop · 04/04/2015 12:34

No never shave.

I like hairy men thanks

You seem to think in extremes

Only1scoop · 04/04/2015 12:36

And I'm not 'hairless' either Confused

Speaking for myself

Extremes again

Koalafications · 04/04/2015 12:38

DH shaved once as he wanted to know what it would be like.

It was bloody horrible. I hated how he looked and it was really weird when we had sex.

Thankfully after experiencing the itchy regrowth he hasn't considered doing it again.

pinkfrocks · 04/04/2015 13:22

Only1
You say today you are not hairless. But yesterday you posted this

What a load of shite. I just choose to be smooth

No one is thinking in extremes.
One poster today said she likes her DP to remove some hair in case she gets a hair in her mouth. My post was for her- not you.

Only1scoop · 04/04/2015 13:39

I choose to be smooth Grin

Ffs my legs are smooth ....my underbits are smooth my armpits are hair free....I have some hair down below just not underneath....

I therefore wouldn't wish to be banded as one of these 'hairless women' you speak of.

passmethewineplease · 04/04/2015 13:39

so what if I do? You might like stray pubes in your mouth, I don't.

And I'm not hairless thanks. If you reread I said sometimes I do sometimes I don't. I am not bothered by it, nor is my DP.

stop winding yourself up pink

passmethewineplease · 04/04/2015 13:40

Should women who choose not to touch their publ ic hair be referred to as "the hairy women.."?

passmethewineplease · 04/04/2015 13:41

Pubic*

Only1scoop · 04/04/2015 13:41

I could perhaps be forgiven for possibly thinking your post at 12.32 looked as though it were in reply to mine....

Huge apologies if not....

UnsolvedMystery · 04/04/2015 14:01

I'm nearly 50 and this craze for removing it wasn't around when I was younger
I'm the same age and have been shaving since I was a teenager. It WAS around, people didn't talk about it as much as they do now.

It's the blanket assumption that all us bald folks do it because of porn and how we have been conditioned to think that gets me.
^^Yes, exactly. I did it for years before I saw any porn, and when I did see some, the women were hairy. Some of us were doing it before internet porn and choose to do it because we like it.

Your choices are removing choice for the next generation
And you are trying to remove my free choice - how is that better?

My Top Tips for getting a smooth finish.
I am way too chicken to get a wax so I have to choose a pain free method. There are 2 ways that I use.

  1. Always trim first with a beard trimmer attachment on a razor (I have one on my epilator)
  2. Soak in the bath - I always get a better result when I do this.
  3. Use a good quality razor blade - I use Venus Divine. Look after your blades by cleaning and drying them after use and you will get many uses out of them.
  4. Forget soap or shaving cream, buy some silicone lubricant (Lovehoney sliquid is my favourite) or oil
  5. Shave in the direction of the hair growth to start with, but as you do it more, you will be able to shave against the growth - that's when you get a really smooth finish.
No cuts, lumps, bumps, rashes or itching.

Alternatively, protect your vulva with a tissue and use hair removal cream. It's not as good a finish as shaving, but it's not bad.

I tend to do it once a month so regrowth is never that much. If I can't be bothered to shave then just a trim feels ok, but I absolutely love the feeling of being hair free from the waist down.
