The summer thread!

What are you planning to wear this summer?( assuming we're going to have one).

How do I go about getting free samples. Made so many mistakes in the past. Can't afford to buy something which smells nice in shop, because I have them all layered and mixed up, then buying what I think I like and end up hating it .

I'm so pleased you like the Sharini Lotus Toomuchtea.I so wanted to like this range. Its just not my thing .The samples came beautifully packed in a little sack filled with rosebuds - so pretty ( and very reasonably priced).

Betty,Nose - a French company will send you samples after asking you to fill in an olfactory' 'portrait' online ( samples are 10 Euros for 5 plus you normally get a couple of extra ones).Wilting posted another website earlier where most samples are 1 euro ( have never used this site though).
Surrender to chance - an american company have a huge selection of samples online as well.

SOTD is Ralph Lauren's Notorious. Very sharp and quite bitter in the opening, drying down to a slightly musky, chocolatey kinda scent. I think it might be the bergamont that makes it bitter in the opening. it's certainly bold and a little goes a long way.

cressetmama · 11/06/2014 20:11

Y by YSL was SOTD. One of my long time loves (30 years and counting) and still a great T shirt and jeans scent when the point is not to obsess about fragrance but want to smell delicious close up. Chypre and oakmoss get me although I am told it isn't a patch on the original.

canny1234 · 11/06/2014 20:32

There's some vintage 'Y' available as decants on the 4160Tuesdays website Cressetmama.I've ordered vintage 'In love again' from there and it was lovely.

Spent the last couple of days wearing a faint-making 420 perfume from Ormonde Jayne: "Black Gold". I can't really smell it properly (aftereffects of a cold, which is why I've not been posting much), but my office colleagues are adoring it.

FOUR HUNDRED AND TWENTY QUID! But it's beautiful. Even in my blocked-up state, the bits I can smell are gorgeous, I can tell that, but OH MY GOD at the price!

Stokey · 12/06/2014 11:08

God Arsepaste that price is insane

SOTD Guerlain Cruel Gardenia - lovely initially but 3 hours into the day, I can barely smell it.

Me too!Even the sample set is expensive in this range.

SOTD is Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune.
Hurray- its actually hot enough to wear it.

Grin gwan ya good thing (as we say here in ireland when someone is being outrageous!)

Sotd le sauvage from m&s. I love it bit does not linger...

cressetmama · 13/06/2014 09:47

canny from reading various blogs, an inner ELDO wuss is apparently normal. Some of them are very odd. Your Eau de Pierre sample is going to have it's first trial today; in the lovely weather the ambers are a bit heavy. I find myself in agreement with the general consensus on Oyedo; too much lemon polish!

canny1234 · 13/06/2014 09:59

Won a 125 ml bottle of Aqua Allegoria Flora Rosa on eBay.
I love Rose and I like all of the Aqua Allegorias but I hope I love this one. Its a bit of a gamble this blind-buying( I'm normally really cautious).
SOTD is again Pamplune.I've only just realised there's patchouli in the drydown.I get a distinctly leathery smell from this.Pamplelune is really quite reminiscent of Mistral Patchouli by Atelier Cologne (which is probably why I like it)

SOTD Comme de Garcon serpentine

I really love this, green woody grassy some floral coming though, not to smothering, refreshing, right up my street in fact and driving in the door!

It's a nose sample, possibly my favourite so far...

FuzzLightbeard · 13/06/2014 20:58

Toomuchtea I had my eye on the ebay Oriza...however I have a strict 'no blind buy' rule and as the Muguet wasn't in my sample pack I didn't bid. I kind of wish I had as it went for absolute steal, less than £25 I think (whoever won it got such a bargain!)

SOTD was Parfumerie Generale Jardins de Kerylos, a very green fig. This evening I've sprayed on some Serge Lutens Santal Majuscule, not very seasonal but oh so gorgeous!

canny1234 · 16/06/2014 09:41

Gosh Toomuchtea, you've started me off on the slippery slope to perfume perdition. This weekend I have bid on and won Penhaligons Orange Blossom plus mini bottles of Bluebell and Lavendula.I really love the mini bottles in the Penhaligons range - especially with the ribbon/braid ties.

I now need to ice my PayPal account.

SOTD is of course Penhaligons Gardenia.

Oh, Wiltingfast, you torment and tempt me. Loving the description of Serpentine. SOTD is Comme des Garcons Vetiveru, from the Nose sample service. It's a pleasant vetiver, but disappears ultra quick, leaving... very little.

Ooo, I really like that too toomuchtea :) v elegant I thought.

cresset they sent me the vetiveru too but I didn't like it much. Too much vetiver and not much else. Disappeared pretty quick too.

Am sampling another maison kurkdijan today, cologne pour le matin. It's soft lemon. Didn't think that was possible really and def not sure I like it. It's a bit like sherbert over powder. Hmmm.

canny1234 · 17/06/2014 14:25

I'm glad you like the Lumiere Noir Toomuchtea.Patchouli does not smell good on me unfortunately.I wasn't keen on the Cologne Pour Le Matin either.

I've received one of my perfumed parcels.Mini bottles of Penhaligons Bluebell and Lavendula in a cute powder blue box.But I'm really not sure about the Bluebell. At the moment it smells like swamp juice!
