The summer thread!

What are you planning to wear this summer?( assuming we're going to have one).

I store mine in their boxes inside a cool marble lined cabinet in my bathroom.I don't like having too many bottles and try and avoid blind buys.I'm keen on buying large decants though.Store all my samples in a Clinique flowery tin away from heat and light.
Is anyone up for a sample swop?I have quite a few.I also have a couple of bottles of perfume - Prada Infusion d'Iris and Bronze Goddess for swop.

SOTD is Idylle Extrait.I got a tiny sample from one of the ladies of Fragantica and its gorgeous. It smells like a flowery garden after the rain - refreshing blossom laden air and just perfect in this humidity.

Most of the Diptyques are colognes, so they're not really known for their lasting power, alas.

I haven't been able to smell anything since May, so perfume is a bit of a bittersweet memory for me at the moment.

OneLittleLady · 29/07/2014 16:17

I've mostly been wearing SignorRicci as it's so refreshing and cool. Lots of sharp and refreshing citrus so it's really nice to put on with it being so hot and humid. I am aware that it's actually a mens scent but I think it's pretty unisex. I got it very cheap, I sent a bottle to another perfumista on here but I don't remember who now Blush

Carpaccio · 29/07/2014 16:28

Yesterday, I wore Britney Spears Curious - I used to wear it a lot years ago, but recently it has been forgotten a bit as I've been getting loads of new perfumes. It really is a lovely scent.

Today, I'm wearing Guerlain Terracotta Le Parfum - very summery. I absolutely adore this one.

Yves Rocher Lilas Mauve today.I used the matching shower gel as well so the scent lasts a little longer.I'm definitely going through a Lilac phase at the moment as yesterdays perfume was L'eclat de Arpege de Lanvin - another fresher Lilac and Wisteria bomb( also sprayed my pillow last night with the Lilas Mauve).

Envying Toomuchtea her excursion to perfume heaven.

Aqua Fiorentina is SOTD. Love its sharp rhubarb fruitiness, and it lasts brilliantly in cooler weather, but it has to be rationed when it's hot.

Absence down to puppy-minding duties, but she gets her second shot next week so we can go out together; can't wait, it has been a long month.

HatieKokpins · 30/07/2014 13:39

Sadly, Toomuchtea, it's not. Had a cold at the end of May, haven't been able to smell anything since. As one of my hobbies is writing about perfume, you can imagine how bad I feel at the moment! It's on its way back, I think, but ... it's been a tough couple of months.

Feeling for you, Toomuch and Hatie. DS suffered from rhinitis, but seems to have outgrown it; hope yours passes, and that Hatie's olfactory organs make a speedy recovery.

Disappointing that Les Senteurs wasn't open, but Selfridges would make an exciting alternative. Our local HoF has a good-ish perfume selection, just not in the London league! Would love to sniff more of the Creeds but fear to venture into the path of temptation.

And the puppy was clean and dry overnight for the first time!

canny1234 · 31/07/2014 11:10

Do you write a blog Hatie?I do hope everyone eventually rediscovers their sense of smell soon.If this happened to me I would be really distressed not just because of perfume but because I really love my food ( sad )

Selfridge's sounds a lovely perfume pitstop.I always get really carried away and spray myself with way too many perfumes and then can't remember the nice ones.

SOTD is La Chasse Aux Papillons by L'Artisan Parfumeur.I love this in the summer as the heat brings out the freshness of the Linden Blossom on me.To try and make it last a little longer I've layered it with the shower gel and body oil.Trouble is they're not overly scented either.

I do write a blog, but I don't talk about it much here as ... well, this is where I hide out!) But feel free to drop me a PM if you want to know more. Yes, food is just not as good at the moment, it's a bit depressing. I can smell better at the moment than I've been able to for months, actually, but it's definitely not the same!

Two rounds of antibiotics so far, and still on daily nasal douches and steroid sprays, and I'm on the waiting list for the ENT. It'll get better (hopefully) just don't know when.

I'm wearing L'Artisan Seville a L'aube today, regardless Smile

Hello all, sorry to hear about the smelling problems Hatie and Toomuchtea.

I was actually also wearing L'Ombre dans L'Eau yesterday, I think it's one of my favourite rose perfumes. Today is Penhaligons Artemisia, not a favourite but I'm on a mission to use up some of my samples to make room for more! Very clean musk, violet and vanilla, nice enough but smells like it should cost a lot less than it does.

Hope it's okay if I crash in here- how I wish I'd seen the other threads before! I've been discovering perfume for two years now, but will never get to the end of all I want to try.

Summer perfumes:

Carnal Flower (sadly decant has run out)
Occasional dab of my vintage Diorella cos it's precious and I want to keep it.
Chanel 28 La Pausa
Chanel Bel Respiro (Chanel boutique in Dublin is very generous with samples)

Just got the new discovery set from L'Artisan Parfumeur (great value - 10 2ml samples for £12) and have fallen hard for Seville a l'Aube and Premier Figueur.

Looking to autumn though - there was a damp chill in the air the other morning and I found myself sniffing at Chanel's Cuir de Russie thinking it made sense for the first time in a while..

canny1234 · 20/08/2014 20:12

Welcome to this thread Shins. Its been really quiet over the summer but let's hope it picks up again.I'm envious of your Chanels - I would love to try those particular ones but unfortunately live in the sticks.Perfume today is La chasse aux papillons by L'Artisan Parfumeur.I think this scent is best on a warm day as the heat accentuates the freshness of the Linden blossoms.

Autumn is definitely in the air today.Do you change your perfume according to the season? What are your choices?
OP posts:
Carpaccio · 20/08/2014 20:46

I've started wearing my autumn perfumes again - yesterday was Bvlgari Black.
I've had it for many, many years but have never really fallen in love with it - but at the same time, I find it so different that I can't dislike it either.
It has an unusual smell of smoke, burnt tires, leather and vanilla, and it's very strong; it's one of those perfumes that you spray into the air, then walk through the perfume mist to avoid getting too much on.
It sounds like a horrible combination though :D

My other autumn/winter perfumes are:
Hermes - Kelly Caleche
Hermes Hermessence - Ambre Narguile
Cartier - Baiser Vole
Guerlain - Idylle
Guerlain - Meteorites (too much gives me migraine)
Moschino - Cheap & Chic
Guerlain - Guerlinade
Chanel - Allure
Guerlain - La Petite Robe Noire
Nina Ricci - L'air

canny1234 · 21/08/2014 09:50

Interesting choices Carpaccio.Do you wear Idylle eau de toilette or the perfume?
My autumn/winter choices are:
Amyris femme by MFK.
Mistral Patchouli by Atelier Cologne.
Rose Oud by Kilian.
Rose Noir by Byredo.
Drole de rose by L'Artisan Parfumeur.
Eau des Merveilles by Hermes.
Ellie Saab Le Parfum.
Urura's Tokyo Cafe by 4160 Tuesdays.
Seville a La aube by L'Artisan Parfumeur.
Calycanthus by Acca Kappa
I tend to keep the more intense florals/roses for cooler weather.I'm going to look for a lightweight amber and vanilla as well.I haven't found one that I like yet. They've all been way too sweet or too dry.I would like a fresh one if that makes sense.

Carpaccio, I keep meaning to try Bvlgari Black, it's quite cheap on Amazon. I think I'd love it as my favourite perfume ever is Bandit (now there's a marmite perfume, most people I know HATE it!) - I love Bandit's aggressive leather green notes and feeling of general badness when I wear it, it's in total contrast to my staid office-job-and-three-kids life!

I find myself drawn to leather and wood as autumn/winter approaches. My Cuir de Russie is a rare FB I got recently, I just love it so much. Everything about it is luxury. Like Bandit, it provides a perfect contrast to reality. I used to douse myself in it in the department store near my office at a difficult time a couple of years ago - instant escapism, I could pretend to be some exiled Russian countess and not a harried sleep deprived mother of small children with money worries.

Canny, I am lucky with the Chanels - I'm fairly cheeky about asking them for samples and bring my cute little girl to get extra ("Oh she'd love some too, yes she really likes 31 Rue Cambon!"). My DH suggested figuring out when the sales assistants go on their lunch hour "like the guards in the Great Escape" and work it round that!

Carpaccio · 21/08/2014 16:00

Canny, I have the EdP.

Shins, if you like the leather perfumes, you should have try Hermes Kelly Caleche - I've seen it described as a smell of leather and money, which I guess isn't far off. It smells of leather and roses and it's just amazing. It is more wearable and feminine than Bvlgari Black.
I have the old Bvlgari Black with the cap that turns off and on. My impression is that the new one is slightly different.

I haven't tried the Chanel perfumes you've mentioned, but the Cuir de Russie sounds absolutely amazing.
