The summer thread!

What are you planning to wear this summer?( assuming we're going to have one).

MyrtleDove, how about 4711 Acqua Colonia Lavender & Thyme?

Canny1234, I have Idylle and it's very nice. To me, it's very Guerlain, just without the heaviness. It has been my favourite for many years, and I seem to prefer the white floral type of scents.

MyrtleDove · 25/06/2014 17:46

Ooh that Lavender and Thyme sounds ideal, definitely after a more herbal-smelling lavender. Will try L'Occitane.

Anyone tried the Elizabeth Arden Green Tea & Lavender?

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 25/06/2014 18:18

Hi, just a quick post. I got some eau dynamisante for everyday summer, and I can't smell it after half an hour and neither can anyone else. Devastated as I love it. Is this normal. (Not just my nose, dd can't smell it)
Damn you all for the nose and Maison kurkidjan(?) recommendations. I've found Maison marginal, which I adore and no way can afford. Where is this perfume sampling place? Is there a website?

MyrtleDove · 25/06/2014 23:10

The Clarins fragrances are supposed to be lightweight - they're meant to be partly bodycare, the idea is that you spritz yourself with it several times a day.

According to Fragrantica, Liz Earle Botanical Essence No 1 and Roger & Gallet Eau des Bienfaits smell similar. Also recommended are Chanel Cristalle (Yardley Jade is a dead ringer for this btw), Chanel No19, O de Lancome and Clinique Aromatics Elixir.

ScienceRocks · 26/06/2014 09:35

Today I am wearing Atkinson's 24 Old Bond Street. I now realise it is for men. That is all.

FuzzLightbeard · 26/06/2014 13:07

Hi all, just coming out of a stinking cold so have not been posting as I haven't been able to smell much!

SOTD is Annick Goutal Vanille Exquise, the softest whisper of musky vanilla.

L'Artisan lovers- get yourselves over to the L'Artisan website as there is an amazing sale on. I picked up Passage d'Enfer for £9!! Oh I do so love a bargain!

canny1234 · 26/06/2014 16:07

I received my samples and decants yesterday. So morning was Apres l'ondee and afternoon was Eau des merveilles.Apres l'ondee smells predominantly of Iris plus a bit of Heliotrope.I can't really smell violets or orange blossom.I also find the scent very pungeant to begin with (a bit of a Hairspray opening like Heeleys Iris de nuit).Eau des Merveilles smells like a beautifully suited very expensive looking man.Which is a good thing I think.Anyway I like it!

I need to try Eau Sauvage I think. I have zero problem with wearing male fragrances but then I really love this post on perfume and gender, not just because I love Opium.

cressetmama · 27/06/2014 09:36

So pleased you have both managed to get samples of EdM, and that it has appealed to 50%! SOTD is Escale a Paraty (neroli with tonka). It's very fresh and zesty, and I think discontinued... At least I haven't seen it this year; I understand the Escales are only given one season, unless they sell by the tanker load, but Dior doesn't seem to push them in the UK.

canny1234 · 27/06/2014 11:40

Trying a new sample today - Hermessence Rose Ikebana. Its really similar to YSL's In love again. Why oh why can I only smell a sour bitterness now in these perfumes.I loved the scent of In love again but I don't know whether my nose is perceiving the smell differently or whether it is actually smelling different on.

Toomuchtea I think we must be opposites. You seem to suit the scents that I don't.

ooh, I saw escale a parati today. Had a sniff as it happens, then a spray, thought it was gorgeous?!

cressetmama · 29/06/2014 22:28

Wilting... I am sure it's gorgeous too! I saw it, tried it, and bought it on a ferry crossing. I have about an inch left in the bottle, but am moving into rationing phase. Small puffs, less frequently enjoyed. Sad...? I am desolated, but have consoled myself with newly discovered delights. And going to France u=in August..... well, I might just look in on the scent counter!

cressetmama · 29/06/2014 22:29

But only if my arm is twisted of course........... any volunteers?!

canny1234 · 30/06/2014 11:26

I'll twist your arm Cressetmama!

SOTD is Apres l'ondee today. Its starting to grow on me - I'm enjoying the cool ethereal vibe of it.Have loved Eau Des Merveilles this weekend.I love the fresh citrussy opening followed by the masculine pepperiness. It gives a similar feeling to Atelier Colognes Mistral Patchouli ( star anise plus citrus/patchouli) whereas my dd can smell licorice in Eau des merveilles ( which she really dislikes and I love).

Had a horrible perfume shop in Boots last week. The Dior and Guerlain cupboard were locked so I asked the assistants to open them. The counter was right in front of these cupboards( so there was very little space)An assistant then proceeded to glue herself to me the whole time I was trying on different perfumes.Even when these cupboards were locked I still had this assistant glued to me( even though she admitted she knew nothing about perfume).I refused to buy anything on principle and will now never go to Boots if I can help it.This is a right shame as I used to work in Boots( pharmaceutical side) and was a great advocate of the place.

Escalale a parati (sp!) Is available on AllBeauty.

Stokey · 30/06/2014 11:54

Canny I got a sample of Apres L'ondee earlier this year and really like it, "ethereal" is exactly the word.

Another one that I loved in a similar vein was CB I hate perfume To See A Flower. I really like the wet earth smell of it.

I think Frederic Malle's "eau de hiver" has it a little too.

Wooly have PMed you.

One of the things I like about EdM is how it's not really like anything else - I get a similar feeling from Jicky, which I also love (my best friend says it smells like mushy peas Hmm Grin ).

MissBattleaxe · 30/06/2014 23:17

Jicky smells like Mr Sheen on me but on my friend it smells utterly gorgeous.

cressetmama · 01/07/2014 12:33

You are the most shameless enablers........ but I will hit the counter when I get aboard and tell myself I'm doing it for us all!

I'm with Stokey that Eau d'Hiver. On me, it went from ethereal to near invisibility in minutes, but I loved it anyway; when I got a sample from Les Senteurs, it was gone in days. I haven't "fallen" for a full bottle yet, and may never. Scent needs to stick around a little more IMVHO.

SOTD is the original Comme des Garcons. Hoping to spot a tester for the CdG Serpentine someone recently liked on here before too long, and am already worrying about falling in lust with it.

catlitterinmyturnups · 01/07/2014 17:18

Hello perfume lovers

I'm after some advice, please. Went to order a new bottle of my perfume but it's been discontinued. Am gutted. Does anyone know of anything similar to L'Occitaine's L'Eau D'Iparie?

Any suggestions appreciated!

Apatite1 · 01/07/2014 17:53

Well ladies, I opted for the duty free loveliness of bronze goddess in the end. I can see why this has lasted on the shelves so long. It's very coconutty on me. It's about as sweet as I wasn't it, no more. I'm going to try layering it with white flowers. Hmm.

MyrtleDove · 01/07/2014 19:50

Givenchy Organza would be a nice one to layer with a coconutty fragrance.

MyrtleDove · 01/07/2014 19:52

Also - M&S Florentyna White (not sure of the exact name but it's the white floral version of Florentyna, pale blue box with white flowers on it) is a really nice white floral fragrance, shockingly so almost.
