The summer thread!

What are you planning to wear this summer?( assuming we're going to have one).

OP posts:
OneLittleLady · 05/06/2014 15:42

Asking once again if anyone would want a bottle of Yatagan. I really can't wear it as it gives me migraines. Anyone want to try it? It's ....a bit of a beast IMHO Grin

canny1234 · 05/06/2014 16:40

I'd like to try the Serge a La nuit Stokey.Did I send you that Rosine one a while back?Shall we pm addresses again?

I'm a real fan of Byredo perfumes. So far I have samples of Rose Noir,La Tulipa,Flower head( bit watery) and Bal d'afrique. ( lovely but a bit too distinctive for summer - a lighter take on it is Atelier Colognes Vetiver Fatal which is delicious).

Stokey my magnolia bush smells of lemon and sherbert.I would truly love to smell this new perfume, as I adore the smell of Acqua de Parma's Magnolia nobile.

OP posts:
MyrtleDove · 05/06/2014 16:55

Ended up scrubbing off the Atelier Cologne Vanille Insensée as the vetiver was so harsh and powdery - it got at the back of my throat like an air freshener and gave me a headache. Unusual as I normally love vetiver.

wiltingfast · 05/06/2014 17:09

I'm not mad about the diptyques I've tried so far stokey.

Nose send me an Oyeda sample but it was v aggressive, my inner nose was sore from it's relentless freshness by the end of the day.

Then I've a sample of L'eau diptyque (I think) and it is v strongly cinnamon. Not keen.

Hmm, have only tried philosphykos (sp?) in the shop so don't ahve a proper impression but again, didn't love it.

What is your impression? I want to like them! The branding is lovely Grin.

Am on a bit of a coromandel bender this week. Sprayed with a light hand I hasten to add. Can still sniff it on my wrist. Gorgeous!

Very pleased to have found this thread.

I just ordered 10x samples from Lucky Scent and found a really nice one: Eau de Peche, buy Keiko Mecheri.

I ordered a sample of Tom Ford Jonquille de Nuit based on a review of Eau de Peche, which just arrived and is horrible, horrible, horrible.

canny1234 · 06/06/2014 12:13

I love Philosykos Wilting - I love most scents with a coconuty vibe.I've only tried another couple that I wasn't keen on.Would love to try the Rose though.

Glad you got the samples Toomuchtea.Hope you find some you like.

SOTD is Atelier Cologne Cedrat enivrant.Way too masculine for me!
Also tried Vanilla Insensee last night.Just got pure natural unsweetened vanilla, nothing else.Topped up with the warm and pretty Ellie Saab to go to sleep.

OP posts:
MyrtleDove · 06/06/2014 12:55

Why was Vanilla Insensee so weird on me?? Hmm I got barely any vanilla through the harsh vetiver/citrus fug.

The perfumes have arrived thank you Cressetmama and Toomuchtea .I just love receiving scented parcels!

I adore Serge Lutens La fille de Berlin Cressetmama. It smells so gorgeously rosy on me and I love the colour of the juice.I've been looking for a gorgeous non-green rose for a while - now I've found one.

Toomuchtea I like smelling like a flower- i also love my house smelling of flowers. At the moment I have a huge bunch of blowsy scented peonies and freesias on my kitchen table and a another huge one of white and blue iris in my hall plus orange blossom candles everywhere.

OP posts:
OneLittleLady · 07/06/2014 14:38

SOTD is Amazing Grace - Philosophy. very delicate and powdery. Nice for spring time. Also fresh at the same time, something slightly green in the background. Feels very refreshing after working up a sweat getting the flat guest ready!

MissBattleaxe · 08/06/2014 10:41

STOD Tauer Cologne du Maghreb. Very moreish- couldn't stop sniffing it. It's about time he did a Cologne! Not the same longevity, but it's all natural ingredients and not the same construction as his everlasting EDPs.

canny1234 · 08/06/2014 18:17

SOTD is Penhaligons Gardenia sent to me by Toomuchtea.Love the top note of pure Gardenia and the drydown which has a gorgeous floral freshness. Its also not OTT in terms of silage and is a well behaved English type of perfume - unashamedly not sexy, but pure and expensive smelling.

OP posts:
canny1234 · 08/06/2014 18:23

SOTD is Penhaligons Gardenia courtesy of Toomuchtea.I truly love this - the tasteful purity and Englishness of this is beautiful. The drydown has a scented freshness about it after the top notes of pure Gardenia.

canny1234 · 08/06/2014 18:24

Huh - how did I post twice?

OP posts:
cressetmama · 09/06/2014 09:29

Canny, I am thrilled you liked La fille de Berlin! I adored the colour too, less so the rose intensity.
Thank you for the Diptyques and the ambers. Now I can look forward to some cool weather (or an evening engagement) to try them out. Not that it has been very warm here yet, but this week may change.

Have not chosen a SOTD yet but it's going to be busy so it'll probably be something light and fresh that can be renewed without fearing everyone in the supermarket will be overwhelmed... possibly Eau Parfume au The Verte or Escale a Paraty.

Sotd lumiere noire by maison kurkdijan :)

Really like this, v elegant subtle greenish rose. Perfect for work which is where I'm headed alas.

I think there was a spate of MK sampling a while back? I got some recently but this is the only one that stands out.

canny1234 · 10/06/2014 09:28

I love Aqua Universalis and Amyris Femme Wilting.Green rose scents never seem to smell good on me.I also adore Ellie Saab which is again another Francis Kurkdjian orange blossom creation.

SOTD is Aqua Universalis.I want to smell fresh,as its humid today.

OP posts:
wiltingfast · 10/06/2014 13:12

Ah I tried the Elie Saab but I do not cope with white floral very well, gives me a headache, I keep trying though!

I think Francis Kurkdijan did another favourite of mine "Green Tea" for E Arden, so I was v interested to try some!

MyrtleDove · 10/06/2014 18:27

Sorry for the late reply Toomuchtea - vanilla scents are normally very good on me, it's a note that works really well on my skin eg Shalimar is mostly vanilla in a church on me. So I am very surprised that Vanille Incensee was so awful.

I am also despairing of ever finding a nice, not too sweet summer fragrance that LASTS on me. Elie Saab EDT is nice but just doesn't last long enough. Anything but heavy orientals disappears on me so quickly.

Have you tried Mona di Orio's Vanille? If you like vanilla that is a super one. It has quite a heavy greenish opening though but it setltes doewn beautifully.

I have a teeny sample bottle that I got from a French online place, Parfumerie des Fontaines "Les Enchantillons" = samples! I'd really recommend it.

wiltingfast · 11/06/2014 13:35

Oh and the shipping is free if you spend 10...

canny1234 · 11/06/2014 13:39

Ladies have you tried posting your problem on Fragantica? The Forum seems pretty helpful. You do need to register first though.
I do enjoy changing my scent timeline and find it useful for storing testing notes.
I can't help you as I prefer floral/citrus/green scents.I really didn't like Vanilla Insensee either. It was very one dimensional on my skin ( and I don't even like Vanilla as a single note).

Nice to see you are having fun with the samples Toomuchtea

SOTD is Byredo Palermo which is one of the most ephemeral perfumes I have ever experienced.I swear the scent lasted less than 5 minutes.

Have been experimenting with the Etat de Libre samples I received from Cressetmama.I sprayed the Rose one on and 5 minutes later had to wash it off as there was just too much ' skank'.Am I a bit of a wuss?
