First of all I apologise for the title of this post, I couldn't think of a better way to explain it! Do you have a style that is popular at the moment that you absolutely loathe ? The reason I ask this is because, today I have been out in my local town and noticed a lot of women wearing a certain type of look, but not sure how to describe it. Quilted fitted jackets, tightish or bootleg jeans, some sort of boots, animal print scarf, designer handbag and gold jewellery. I'm really not keen on this look, but they might not be keen on mine, so each to their own! Just wondered if anyone else feels this way about certain looks?

LordPalmerston · 02/03/2014 15:59

Rebus I was thinking of DD1(16) and her DFs(17).

DD2 wears stupid Primark pumps, but I'm not counting 12yearolds as having enough sense to include in this thread.

DH wears sandals when not in work shoes, all year round, regardless of ice, rain and light snow (heavy snow=wellies), but he doesn't even know what clothes he owns (as I've bought them for the last 25 years).

Nocomet · 02/03/2014 16:03

DD1 would love those, she put some like that on polyvore.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/03/2014 16:05

We got dd's from the boys' section at M&S and her previous ones were Next boys' ones - much cheaper than buying women's ones!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/03/2014 16:06

Are they allowed to wear boots to school, Lord P? At dd2's school, only 6th formers can wear boots. In Yr 11 and 11, she wore brogues

lovingmatleave · 02/03/2014 19:03

white converse trainers - why do at least half the mums at any baby group have them?
New balance trainers - the latest trend in footwear it seems, but I got my 9 year old son a pair without realising this in the Next xmas sale, so to me seeing them on grown women just doesn't work.
Uggs - well past it and just ugly.

Feel bad about writing this as I am stuck in a skinny jean and brown boots time warp myself!

polyhymnia · 02/03/2014 19:19

Wasn't 100% sure what everyone meant by hair donuts but there was a christening at church today and one of the guests had a huge one and must agree they look truly grotesque!

MissBetseyTrotwood · 02/03/2014 19:21

Men with plucked/threaded eyebrows. Yuck.

mathanxiety · 02/03/2014 19:26

Oh yes indeed, and men with long nails (that extend to or past fingertips).

Lj8893 · 02/03/2014 19:26

Yy loving I've noticed the white converse too!!! They look lovely, but we live in a fairly rural village and I don't know how the white converse brigade manage to keep them so clean! I wear riding boots or ankle boots and in the 10 minute walk to baby&toddler group they get filthy!

LordPalmerston · 02/03/2014 19:48

yup - they can wear boots

Lavenderhoney · 03/03/2014 07:12

I like this thread, it reminds me there are people out there who notice:)

Where I am the school gate style is scarecrow chic. All baggy leggings, ancient horrible thick jumpers that look like the owner sleeps in them, wellies and no make up, perfume, hair brushed, looking like a good bath is needed...It might be practical for them but surely you don't have to look so dragged together?

I wouldn't normally be so bitchy but I try to look groomed and smart even though it's rural- and I get sideways looks and giggles and comments if I wear sunglasses if the sun is bright, which is disconcerting - I don't want squinty eyes!

I'm fighting the urge to fit in and go grunge:)

RonaldMcDonald · 03/03/2014 08:35

That is not grunge

Amrapaali · 03/03/2014 10:13

Leslie and lj - I am thinking the Jameela Jamil look. Tell me I am not far off....

Lj8893 · 03/03/2014 23:06

Yep except I'm about 4 sizes bigger than her Grin
