Styles you don't admire?

First of all I apologise for the title of this post, I couldn't think of a better way to explain it! Do you have a style that is popular at the moment that you absolutely loathe ? The reason I ask this is because, today I have been out in my local town and noticed a lot of women wearing a certain type of look, but not sure how to describe it. Quilted fitted jackets, tightish or bootleg jeans, some sort of boots, animal print scarf, designer handbag and gold jewellery. I'm really not keen on this look, but they might not be keen on mine, so each to their own! Just wondered if anyone else feels this way about certain looks?

Oh yeah, and I have the wild wavy very curly hair too.

quirkychick · 01/03/2014 21:32

I think they are parkas but with fishtail backs? I did quite like them but I think I will keep seeing sheep's bottom's now!

RavenRose · 01/03/2014 21:55

I'm not keen on Uggs, fake tan and the hair donuts. But as a 46 year old goth I wouldn't be

Did meet the most amazing stylish 70ish goth today though. Pale pink hair, beautiful long black fitted coat and silver bats in her ears. If I could look that now I'd be happy, if I could look that good in my 70s I'd be ecstatic!

Nocomet · 01/03/2014 22:01

DD1 has a parker like that, ubiquitous 14 -21y uniform round here.

It actually quite suits her and it does mean she wears a coat.

OneLittleLady · 01/03/2014 22:04

I don't like uggs or the obnoxiously bright fake tans that are done to death round here. I don't mind what others do, I just think they're ugly. I'm pretty damn certain that people look at things I wear and turn their noses up though Grin

TrickyBiscuits · 01/03/2014 22:21

This is perhaps slightly controversial but I can't stand seeing handbags being carried at the crook of the arm with an empty hand stuck out at a daft angle, palm facing the sky. It makes women look like gormless vacuous dolls and I just don't get it Confused

I do love the 50 year old goth thing though, I think it's the whole 'fuck it, this is what I like' attitude which in my opinion is stylish in itself.

MozzchopsThirty · 01/03/2014 22:25

I don't like people wearing sportswear when they clearly haven't done any exercise for at least 20 years

Trainers should only be worn for sports, however converse/vans etc are not trainers and you can wear those with anything

Hate the puckered bum buns, flew on Emirates last week and every female cabin crew had a massive one

Leggings and short tops are never ok

I love my Uggs and skinny jeans Grin

blueshoes · 01/03/2014 22:38

Ankle boots particularly when worn with skirts.
Platform stripper heels, particularly in an ankle boot style.
Gladiator or cage shoes.
Uggs
Birkenstocks
Crocs

phonebox · 01/03/2014 22:43

TrickyBiscuits I would be more worried about getting mugged by holding my handbag that way Grin

I never understood pashminas. Thank God that trend is fading now, even among 'posh' students. I notice Uggs are still around though Angry

applecrumbleandcream · 02/03/2014 00:13

Rose gold Michael Kors watch.....everyone seems to have them.

StatisticallyChallenged · 02/03/2014 00:17

See, we all do something that's on this thread!

Twinklestein · 02/03/2014 00:40

Overly dyed hair, scouse brows, false eyelashes, fake nails, fake fan, tattoos, hefty girls in tight short clothing, bare legs unless it's hot, Karen Millen, Boden, Clark's, DMs...

Twinklestein · 02/03/2014 00:56

Oh and Ash boots, all of them - those fucking awful 80s throwback mumsy ankle boots, the Earl's Court studded biker boots, and the wedge trainers that look like corrective shoes.

CoffeeTea103 · 02/03/2014 01:27

The eyebrows, that tacky pink dyed hair coupled with that grunge look. Confused

Chloerose75 · 02/03/2014 01:54

Creeper shoes eg this Hideous

NancyinCali · 02/03/2014 02:03

My main gripe is yoga pants on everyone. I live somewhere where Athleta and Lululemon are prevalent. I only wear yoga pants when I'm actually going to yoga. Or heavily pregnant and nothing else fits. Grin

echt · 02/03/2014 04:50

LordPalmerston, you appear to have special target in the over-50, those overweight and those whose breasts have had the misfortune to succumb to the forces of ageing connective tissue.

Would you like the ones you consider to be ugly to wear a bag over their heads?

Greenmug · 02/03/2014 08:11

Not keen on the massive buns and caterpillar brows but its obvious its a teen phase and there's always a particularly dodgy one of those around.

The looks I really don't like are the ones who are just too try hard, no matter the style. And people who believe they so achingly fashionable that they like to tell you (unprompted) where they bought their clothes.

I'm pretty sure most/all of us have worn something on this thread that someone else hates!

Snowdown · 02/03/2014 08:19

Dd wears leggings as trousers - she is very skinny and very young and so therefore it looks just fine worn with a pair of high top converse.
I agree with the comments that I'd rather someone had a style than no style at all, variety is great.
The only item of clothing I just don't understand is wedge trainers - worn by otherwise very well dressed woman, they just look weird on the feet.

LCHammer · 02/03/2014 10:23

I love tea dresses, cardi and bright lipstick and I think they suit me.

Anna1976 - pluck the eyebrows! They don't need to be thin, just tidy. There must be some makeup that would look good and groomed on you.

What is a tea dress, exactly? I've seen loads of different shapes sold as 'tea dresses'. Or is it about fabric?

I too like the dress/cardi look but I know for me it's a slightly lazy look, because I weigh a few pounds more than I should and it is comfortable while looking as if I've made a bit of an effort. On some, who go full-out with lovely makeup and hair it can look stunning; on others (me! Grin) it's more of a cliche. But what the heck, eh?

LRDtheFeministDragon · 02/03/2014 11:27

Oops, forgot what I came here for: leather trousers on men. Admittedly if the musketeers walked down my high street I'd probably make an exception, but in real life, they look terrible and sleazy. There is a man who gets the bus with men who has two primary-school-aged children and wears them, and it just screams 'I want to be the sexy dad'. Bleugh.

winterhat · 02/03/2014 11:30

Low-waisted trousers
Fake tan
Over-bleached, over-straightened hair
Too many pointless accessories
Scary plucked cross-looking eyebrows

LCHammer · 02/03/2014 11:30

I think tea dresses are those with fine flowery patterns. I agree they'd look lazy if jersey fabric, they need a bit more structure.
