First of all I apologise for the title of this post, I couldn't think of a better way to explain it! Do you have a style that is popular at the moment that you absolutely loathe ? The reason I ask this is because, today I have been out in my local town and noticed a lot of women wearing a certain type of look, but not sure how to describe it. Quilted fitted jackets, tightish or bootleg jeans, some sort of boots, animal print scarf, designer handbag and gold jewellery. I'm really not keen on this look, but they might not be keen on mine, so each to their own! Just wondered if anyone else feels this way about certain looks?

Leather trousers- can you imagine? I bet they rarely get a proper clean. Eurgh.

Yeah ... I'm not keen on the cheap chiffon ones (or whatever synthetic floaty materials they're made of, I wouldn't know).

And yes ... the cleaning of leather trousers is something I didn't like to think about.

Leather trousers on older women with short over coiffured hair and heavy make up and a 'jazzy' shirt glaring nails and peep toe shoe boots

I went to a 50th Friday All women without exception looked great. Not a wrap dress or hair 'do' in sight though!

MichaelFinnigan · 02/03/2014 11:51

I walked through Swindon town centre the other day (long story, another thread) and all the youngsters looked like they were off to a gymkhana. Quilted jackets, tight trousers, riding boots and a greggs pasty to top it all off

GoodnessKnows · 02/03/2014 11:53

Platform trainers

HellsGranny · 02/03/2014 11:56

I don't get short skirts/dresses with chunky ankle boots.

RonaldMcDonald · 02/03/2014 12:04

Very often I HATE white t-shirts in summer...

Nocomet · 02/03/2014 12:19

Tight trousers and riding boots, with either a Parker or a quilted jacket is incredibly practical. It's what DD1 lives in.

Parker keeps the rain out (vaguely), better than a hoody and has safer pockets for iPod/mobile.

Riding boots are comfortable, waterproof and grippy and wipe clean. They don't take hours to lace up, like high tops and are as far removed from school shoes as it's possible to get.

Tight trousers follow automatically from long boots.

Also, give or take, barber/joules nonsense, Parkers/quilted jackets get round Jack Willis, Super dry, Converse, Vans, nike etc. fussing.

Nocomet · 02/03/2014 12:20

Also round here quite a lot of the girls do ride.

Re: Tea Dresses.

Some are frumpy and horrible and to be avoided at all costs. for example and another.

I wear these kind

ASOS

green

Pearl Lowe

and I pare down the girly factor with boots or a leather jacket.

I am a curvy 12/14 with long dark hair with a blunt fringe and wear cat eye flicks and red lippy. It's may not be fashion forward (which I'm not arsed about) but it's my look and it looks fecking fantastic.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 02/03/2014 13:00

I wouldn't have the figure for those, but if you do, go for it!

(I've also never mastered cat flicks which makes me sad.)

noddyholder · 02/03/2014 13:06

leslie I have a mate who dresses like that she looks beautiful

Lj8893 · 02/03/2014 13:44

leslie we dress (and look by the sounds of it) very similar!

I'm curvy and tea dresses flatter my figure brilliantly, and look lovely with boots and a leather or denim jacket or blazer.

MichaelFinnigan · 02/03/2014 14:50

Yes, it's fine for actual riding. But a bit odd for shopping in primark, but in truth it isn't the outfit per se, more just its ubiquity, amongst quite clearly very 'townie' kids that struck me

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/03/2014 15:08

I don't know any teenagers who wear knee high boots. All Converse, Dunlop, DMs or flat ankle boots here.

noddyholder · 02/03/2014 15:35

Nor do I!

Nocomet · 02/03/2014 15:47

Not knee high, just ordinary long brown boots.

It's been too sodding wet here for converse for months, our yard and the lanes have been a sea of puddles on a good day and lakes and rivers in a bad one.

LordPalmerston · 02/03/2014 15:50

teenagers do wear some shit though, lets be honest

Nocomet · 02/03/2014 15:50

Also all we mums live in ankle boots, due to said paddling so our DDs tend to want to be different.
(I do spoil this by having long brown boots some days too Grin)

Snowdown · 02/03/2014 15:52

If you can wear shit clothes as a teenager when can you, it's not known to be a classy age is it, in fact if dd is a classy teenager I think I'll be a tad disappointed. Smile

Snowdown · 02/03/2014 15:54

But I haven't see a teenager wear long boots for years, mostly just older woman.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/03/2014 15:55

It's rained just about all year here too tbh - dd2 just wears Converse anyway, then shoves one pair in the machine whilst the next pair get wet and muddy etc. I've pretty much given up on trying to persuade her otherwise.
