I have been having a few cocktails in the bar of the Hotel Bristol. I felt I had to, before leaving. God, I love hotel bars, particularly in the afternoon, when they have an even sleazier feel to them. A large part of my wild and mis-spent yoof was spent in them, knocking back vodkas, to keep out the cold, during a vicious Eastern European winter.

BD - hope all goes well for your Mum.

Didn't get Friday's interview. Apparently I did not show "how I had provided policy direction to the team's work in a role where processes are fluid and uncertain." I doubt I got today's either, I was hardly stellar, and was being interviewed by someone who used to work for me. I have, however, lined up some work doing promotion assessments (at least I am good for something) which will hopefully give me a bit of free time.

Cremolafoam · 03/09/2013 22:08

Wow mrs s ! Le Bristol!
Afternoon drinking hopefully post interviewGrin

Aw Herbs what a wee darlin'.

MI- it's your office. Mango raspberry daiquiris all round I say.

Dd getting a suspect mole removed tomorrow Sad. Doctor says its precautionary but they won't know until its biopsied afterwards. Am feeling somewhat anxious.

MrsS, they are truly pompous, innit.

Fingers crossed for all tomorrow.

DP has conceded that the office 'will probably work' though fears this is the last of my sanity. (Yep, mango is yellow/orange. I love mangoes.)

beachyhead · 03/09/2013 22:28

Oh Herbs, he's sooo cute... I'm sure he will have a fab day and I'm equally sure you will be in floods of tears by 9.30am Grin

Tonight was the first Tuesday I came home from work in the dark. It's the beginning of a long hard winter.

As a matter of note, I work next to the Scorchy building bbc report and all day colleagues have been running in and out to report on where the hot spot is now!

Sorry to hear about your interview - how many more do you have to endure?

Cremolafoam · 03/09/2013 22:34

We've been pissing ourselves about that building Beachy. It melted a jaguar

Seriously did it never occur to the architects at any stage that a concave mirror might concentrate sunlight? Wink

Thanks for kind words re DS. He isn't in fact starting until Thursday - I was just making sure the uniform fitted!

I'm taking him to peppa pig world r

herbaceous · 03/09/2013 22:39

FFS. I mean p pig world tomorrow as a big pre school treat.

herbaceous · 03/09/2013 23:27

After all the uniform shenanigans, I think I'll just send him in shorts and sandals on Thursday - it's going to be pushing 30 here too. Far too hot for polyester trews and gigantic new thick leather shoes.

Blackduck · 04/09/2013 08:35

Ahh MrsS ;( Do you think you are just too mentally exhausted to make a good impression? Sounds like you need time to recover from everything.

Thanks for all the good wishes - op is actually Thursday (today is all pre-op stuff) - alto1 wow triple, mum is only a single, though my stress levels were not help by an Anaesthetist on the train telling gory stories of aguy stabbed in the heart and the surgeon holding a beating heart in his hand and sewing up the hole....

Herbs have fun today - enjoy! Ds went back today - told him to wear shorts!

Beachy - what do you do?

Blackduck · 04/09/2013 08:36

Oh Cremo - hope mole is okay..... and any news on grades or does it take months (clueless)

beachyhead · 04/09/2013 10:19

I do a sort of quality assurance job, checking procedures are followed, kind of compliance type thing, in a very specialised area of finance...basically telling everyone how they should be doing their job and getting shirty and shouty when they don't do it Grin

Very dull but hours suit!

Blackduck · 04/09/2013 10:30

Oh sounds like something I'd like! Telling everyone what they should be doing..... (I do that here, but laregly get ignored...)

Cremolafoam · 04/09/2013 11:04

Bd hopefully all ok with mole. Family history not good in this regard but plastic surgeon this morning inspired confidence.
Dds teacher is returning all As English papers to be remarked. So that should be done by 21st sept.
The head of English has got together with 5 other local schools and together drafted a letter to the board about the standard of English marking in general. General outrage .
The gist is that the papers were marked negatively when it says on the markers notes to always be positive .Story going out on local news here today.Grin It's all happening here!

Helloooo, gorgeous ladies. I am alive and back at my desk! Long online absence due to perfect storm of computer problems, builders in the house, mini-breaks (yay), too many children at home, and a need to Get On With Things in RL. Still, we have accomplished a lot of bits and I am sort of hopeful we may even get some new windows in before it gets really cold again which was the big plan for this year. Anyway, have had lovely summer, been away on several short breaks rather than one big one, but it has been great, esp the Festival we went to which was awesomely good fun and also a trip to York, me and dcs in the YHA, fab. Kids back at school today, so now I am eyeing up the pile of admin on my desk...

Have skimmed most of what I missed here, and yes, yes to meet up on 20th, it's in the diary. Smile Congrats on the moves Ruby and MrsS. hope it's not too frazzled. And MrsS , if you're contemplating suburbia, move South - Crystal Palace is the place to be, prices are reasonable and houses/views are gorgeous.

Herbs - hope ds's early days at school go well and that he enjoyed Peppa Pig. And hope any appeal etc gets sorted out asap for you, sounds like it should be.

wilbur · 04/09/2013 11:09

BD - hope your mum's op is all ok, she's in the best place for it, for sure.

Beachy - I'd quite like to take a look at the burning building! Did someone manage to cook an egg in the glare? Not sure where it is in relation to my office, but might see if I can nip over on Thursday if it's not too far.

Stropperella · 04/09/2013 12:10

Waheyyy, Wilbur! Grin Good to see you! Glad to hear you had a good summer and am looking forward to seeing you (and everybody else) on the 20th. Just booking my train tickets.

Ds has gone back to school today in his new school sweatshirt as all the pupils in the oldest class at his school wear a sweatshirt that is a different colour from all the younger pupils' shirts. He is 8 and thinks he is soooo grown up now. :) He will be "mentoring" a reception kiddiwink, apparently.

Dd is still doing her best to avoid getting ready for her first day in Y11 tomorrow. I have done my best to gee her up, but apparently getting ready for school mainly means painting your nails bright pink and working out how best to wear your hair so that your new top of the ear piercing doesn't show. Hmm (note to self: keep working on the "do not despair" mantra)

I am busy with my new "onwards and upwards" work strategy. I think I have an actual plan. And it might even be quite good. And dh agrees that it might be good. Which helps.

Have we decided on where we are going? I think we should book asap as we are a big group and it's a Friday night!

Cremo, fingers crossed for your DD.
Beachy, I saw that jag on the news, and the geezer that said "Oh crikey what's happened to my car?" how DH and I sniggered!

bigTillyMint · 04/09/2013 12:14

Awww (your DS) Stropps! I fear DD will be the same on Fri, sans top of cartilage piercing (which she is desperate to get!)

motherinferior · 04/09/2013 12:14

Did we mutter about Tas, which is a good Sharing Place? Am thinking that kind of option is probably best, and will also encourage swapping and moving around....

DP still being an arse. I may stab him.

QueenQueenie · 04/09/2013 12:59

Have a look here
Says it takes large group bookings... southbank location good?

Stropperella · 04/09/2013 13:07

Yum, looks good to me. :)

beachyhead · 04/09/2013 13:11

yes, that looks yummy....Now ideas for a cocktail bar Smile

beachyhead · 04/09/2013 13:13

Oh Wilbur, it's between Fenchurch Street and East Cheap near Monument station if you fancy a tan!

bigTillyMint · 04/09/2013 13:17

I was thinking either the one on The Cut (for Waterloo) or Borough (London Bridge) - probably easier for the non-Londoners?

Cremolafoam · 04/09/2013 13:26

Oh yes to Tas: pide or the cut
Fine with me(not because me and BTM are getting the same bus,no Grin)
