Will this do?Smile

Well, they haven't proved it so far, have they? There appears to be no policy. If there were a policy, you'd have been referred to it. So in fact, no, they've already demonstrated lack of competence.

And wtf about school dinners? How the hell should the teacher know about school dinners? Ditto uniform. If you phone our school, someone - a human being, yet - tells you this stuff.

Am fuming on your behalf and MrsS's too. And Hattie's. AND BD's.

Blackduck · 02/09/2013 14:07

Herbs - wot MI said. Don't let them wriggle... If they can't tell you about bloody lunches FGS how can they deal with his special needs......

QueenQueenie · 02/09/2013 14:13

Agreed.
Herbs, I think you might think about using the history of your dealings with the school in support of your claim. In fact I wouldn't press them any further to respond / give you that info about coping with his medical needs (unless it's unsafe for ds to be there without a clear plan etc). It seems to me their complete inability to answer the simplest ? fully entitles you to say that you have no confidence in them meeting ds's needs and it's unsafe for him to be there. Catalogue exactly what has (not) happened.

motherinferior · 02/09/2013 14:25

I just interviewed someone who'd had a stroke. When did you have your stroke, I asked. I didn't have a stroke, I had a brain abscess, he said.

I think next time I might just arrange my own damn interviews.

Blackduck · 02/09/2013 14:33

You can interview my mum if you like MI?!

motherinferior · 02/09/2013 14:49

It's a v specific vision thing, alas, BD - but thank you! I think this bloke will do. It's the sight issue rather than the stroke itself, I think...

QueenQueenie · 02/09/2013 15:31

well it is now MI!

motherinferior · 02/09/2013 15:41

Ho yes, QQ Grin

I am definitely going to spray the deeply shabby wooden chair and coffee table in my office with gold paint. I may also do the fireplace. And the window sills Grin And paint the walls/ceiling (it's an attic room so the boundaries are somewhat blurred) in cheering shades of pink and orange.

QueenQueenie · 02/09/2013 15:55

Seriously, go for it. I have always made rather BOLD decorating decisions and never regretted it yet (although my dss are still pretty peeved about the leopard print wallpaper in the tv room Grin.

Cremolafoam · 02/09/2013 16:04

Herbs that is truly shoddy of the school. I really hope that the appeal is a success for you. Feel dreadful for your poor ds in the middle of all this.

Bd - sympathy re hopeless plan
MI - you can sing a rainbow!

I had a feverish dream last night that we hired an articulated truck and took it on a Crepey Rescue to get Mrs S in Paris. Everyone on the pereferique was waving and shouting support!
We were heroic!

MI that sounds lush and very Indian-stylie. You could get sari material for curtains....

QQ, we need a pic of the leopard print wallpaper - definitely a style topic!

Herbs, that is totally crap. It could well be a non-office person answered the phone, but somehow I doubt it's just that given the back historySad

Had a lovely trip out, DC managed not to bicker much and we stuffed our facesSmile

hattymattie · 02/09/2013 16:23

BTM-it's always great when the DC's don't bicker. Glad you got a nice day out.

Herb's I really hope your appeal gets sorted - I can't understand the fob off about ask the teacher either.

DS has had a great pre-rentree and has met lots of new girls and one boy of his height (as opposed to the others who seem to be much taller). His teachers seem lovely so he's very reassured.

DD on her law test "it's done". No way of knowing how that went except if we don't get offers from LNAT uni's we'll know it was bad.

I've just realised the builder is popping in at an unspecified time this evening and I'm to take DD1 to a party. It's for sure he'll arrive in the 20 minutes that I'm out. Hmm

Cremolafoam · 02/09/2013 17:00

That's great news for ds hatty.
And hopefully all will come right for dd too. How do u get hold if her score then. Is it some proustian French bureaucratic labyrinth? Shock

Dds school have drafted a strong letter representing the girls who achieved unexpectedly low scores on the Eng Lit As paper , to be sent to the board . We hope to have answers soon. There's a group of 6 of them who all scored well below predicted grades.Angry Wonderful head of English is suitably incandescent with rage on their behalf.Grin

hattymattie · 02/09/2013 17:17

Fingers crossed for yor DD Crem.

In fact DD1 was doing the British LNAT test - there is a Parisian testing centre but she won't have the results herself until Feb. It's the same for everybody.

bigTillyMint · 02/09/2013 17:48

Yes, fingers crossed Cremo.
And for Hatty's DD.

Cremolafoam · 02/09/2013 18:01

Gosh hattie - so that's the law entrance exam I presume.
So I take it like my dd she's doing Ucas applications in the next few weeks then?
Has she got a top 5?
I am sitting here in a pile of prospectus brochures with dd.( feeling weak)Confused

She has now decided she wants to apply to Maastricht as well but I'm ignoring that because there'd be no funding and we would have to dig up some cash Wink from somewhere ....

OP posts:
MrsSchadenfreude · 02/09/2013 18:31

Isn't Maastricht free, Crem?

Cremolafoam · 02/09/2013 18:46

Disclaimer re Student Funding;
Mrs S dont read this if your head is already ' comme pomme pureé'

Well the maastricht course is € 3500
So that's cool - can pay that ok

However living costs could total € 10,000 per year.

If she studies in the UK or Dublin she will get the full fee loan of £9000 , the maintenance loan of £ 3500 and the maintenance grant as she is an orphan( free money)of about the same.( totalling £7000 ish)

In the UK version we will only have to top up her money( or she will , by getting a job) by a couple of thou.
With the loans she will only pay anything back after she starts earning above £21,000 . Or it's written off after 30 years. It's more like a tax really ( tiny percent of loan per month) and unless she becomes vvv wealthy before the age of 50 she'll only pay a fraction of the loan. There is absolutely NO point in a parent paying this up front( bouf there goes your cash)
Very few pay it all back, so if she goes abroad we would have to stump up the actual money really.
Which we ain't got unless we break into her inheritance. ( possible but not ideal )

OP posts:
hattymattie · 02/09/2013 19:40

Interesting Crem - didn't know about the living costs at Maastricht. I did talk to a Dutch lady who says the best uni in the Netherlands is Amsterdam and that they don't really rate Maastricht.

We're finalising our list of British uni's - 2 of them require the LNAT. Will PM you as soon as we have a definite list. Is your DD going for law as well?

One thing she will apply for is the double law degree which is the Sorbonne and Kings College London but last year they had 3000 applicants for 20 spots. Hmm

Cremolafoam · 02/09/2013 19:54

Not law hatty. Oh no.
Politics. What we have here is a debater with opinions and an interest in women's rights in the Middle East.
She wants to do politics with Arabic or middle eastern studies.Or international Relations.
My old jewish dad keeps saying ' sheesh' a lot Grin
I am trying to pin her down on courses as opposed to universities.
Will it be interesting? Engaging? Or dull... With boring elements ?
A year abroad in the middle would solve her problem of wanderlust I think.
The issue ATM is the dubious As result in Eng lit. To resit or not to resit....
Yes Amsterdam and Erasmus also have been mentioned fleetingly .
She was born in A'dam so the yearning to return is palpable.

OP posts:
bigTillyMint · 02/09/2013 19:58

(We think DD was conceived in AmsterdamWink)

What clever girls you have!

Cremolafoam · 02/09/2013 20:00

Tbh hatty I think £8000 per year or € 10000 for living, travel, accommodation, books, social is probably conservative for any student at any university per annum.
So say most uni websites anyway afaik. It only works out at over 10 months at £200 a week including digs so not extravagant by any means.Smile

DP is being majorly catsbummouthy about the dabs OK large splotches of bright paint on the wall. Admittedly DD2 has put a lot of yellow on hers but he's the one that pointed out her room needs quite radical reconstruction in any case...

I am liking a mix of raspberry pink, fuschia and turmeric yellow Grin. With gold. Ho yes.

bigTillyMint · 02/09/2013 21:24
