Ooop's, yes CVBlush At least it will be sloping on our side to 8ft at our fence, I think - other side will be 10ft or more, I think.

New haircut sounds good!

DH is currently looking at flights for skiing - at least twice the price of last yearShock

Btm we had this 2 years ago and the plans included a boat house which ran for 30ft the length of our back garden and at 18 ft high which as it is to the south cutting all our sunlight.
We fought it and won.
House reduced in size by half and so far not built. They have put a mini Shetland pony in the plot for now.
The original plans were for Versailles
with no garden.Wink
Really wonder what's wrong with people sometimesShock

Gawd, after spending all day yesterday in A&E (work), I have spent this afternoon in a nursing home. Reckon I can compete with MI in the depressing stakes. This nursing home was truly lovely - as nursing homes go - no smells AT ALL apart from rather nice ones and staff who really cared, but OMG those places are still enough to want to make you book your place at Dignitas before you get shipped off by your nearest and dearest.

I suppose I don't need to worry as I'm sure dd will just want me made into dog food anyway. Hmm

Am back in the nursing home at 7.30am tomorrow. And then ds has insisted that he wants to go on a snake-viewing walk in some local woods tomorrow evening. Apparently there are masses of snakes this year. I can hardly wait. Happy Sunday to me.

That's good that you won, Cremo. And that it's not yet built!

We put in objections, and so did other side, but they still got it (as I predicted) They are a nice young couple, but DH thinks they bought the flat as a money-maker. He is planning to sting them for compo on the party wall.
This comes after an 8yr battle with the building at the back.....

Stropps, a friend and I had a convo about storing up the pills the other dayGrin And snake-viewing doesn't appeal much to me either! My friends DS has got a snake a petConfused

Stropperella · 03/08/2013 19:02

Eh, BTM, at least the pet snake is probably in a vivarium or whatever a snake pet home is called. Presumably you don't have to worry about you (or more likely the dog) treading on it and it sinking its poisonous little fangs into you. Those adders are grumpy blighters if you squash them (well, understandably, obvs). Is all mucho exciting for ds, though. He fancies himself as the next Steve Backshall.

Oh no nursing homes crepies!
Or being euthanised either.

My m&d had a great idea years ago which was to put money into an account between the ages of 50-70 and buy a house to retire to en masse with 6 other friends and hire a nurse/ housekeeper as required.
The house would divided into little apartments and they could a live together and look after one another til they dropped.

Did this happen? No.
But dh and I have been thinking if doing it. Grin

we'd be fine getting more and more decrepid together while arguing over the lands end catalogue... but what about any still living dhs?!

Report
Cremolafoam · 03/08/2013 19:12

Yes but with gin and tonics at 6pm every night and a mini book club and a piano for singsongs after the gin.
Communal dinner parties regularly and the odd round of poker .
GrinGrin We could all help each other do the Sainsbo delivery and keep an eye on each other.

Count me in. Will there be a veg patch and cinema trips?

Report
Cremolafoam · 03/08/2013 19:22

Absolutely we would be v low impact ecologically and there would be chickens and much growing of veg and fruit. The dhs could do digging to keep fit. we could do some light hoeing and there would always be fresh flowers instead of the smell of wee. There might even be an in house little cinema for all the amassed DVD collections for rainy afternoons( fancy dress optional)
Our golden years would be funGrin

Can we have a decent wine cellar?

And a green burial plot? :)

Report
QueenQueenie · 03/08/2013 19:51

We can just bury each other in the veg patch stopps. V green.

Report
Cremolafoam · 03/08/2013 20:28

Yes of course. There would field trips to wineries to keep the cellar topped up. To the Loire and Bordeaux staying at chichi little places from the relais et chateaux book and visiting Villandry for garden inspiration.

And now I've lost control of the laptop and posted in mid sentence. Quiet day with DSis in Law - she has not touched a drop since she got here. Luckily DH rescued great friend from round the corner who had run out of petrol so she came for lunch and glugged rose with me and the rest went to Paris whilst I set the world to rights with said friend.

CV - I've had hair cut mega short so I can go swimming on Holiday without having to worry about it curling up and drying in random directions.

BTM - I really sympathise with the extension - my parents went though all this about five years ago - it's really stressful - gosh since I started typing you lot have gone wild on crepey fantasy home. Smile

Count me in if you're having chickens - can I bring the cats too? Grin Perhaps we should have somewhere in France - how about

this?

We went to Paris Plage this afternoon and stopped to have a drink and a plate of chips at one of the less chichi establishments. The nice waiter came and said "As you're English, I've given you some fish with your chips" - small bits of cod, some prawns and whitebait. DD2 screamed because she got an eye on her chips. Grin I ended up eating all of the whitebait. Squeamish little horrors.

Rofl at chateau. Looks perfect IMHO . France would suit me fine but I'd have to start saving up a bit moreWink
People live longer in France I'm led to believe- I am always fascinated by the obituary column in the Sud-Ouest. Could be the oysters Entre Deux Mers and sea bathing of course but nearly all in upper 80s and 90s and always a few over 100.Shock

Book me a room at Chateau Crepey. Sounds fantastic.Grin We can play bridge and moan about our bunions.

Funny you mentioned snakes, Strops. DD2 went on a nature walk with the holiday club yesterday, and they came back with a slow worm AND a furious grass snake (which were both released after being passed around the assembled throng). I haven't seen a wild snake in the UK since I was four years old. Mind you, I'm glad they didn't encounter any adders; my friend's DD, who was eight at the time, was in hospital for three days last year after being bitten.

Can we do pub quizzes and beat the locals :)

Report

If we beat them BD they will hate us and it will be like a sketch from League of Gentlemen as they descend on Chateau Crepester with burning torches and pitchforks... ditto if we sweep the board at the Horticultural Show with our giant onions and homemade fig chutney
