What on Earth is this and what do I do with it?!

This is in a VERY delicate area and is absolute agony.

Monkey pox. Stay at home. Tea tree oil. Or just put some hot water on it. #mumpimplepopper😘

Marcipex · 12/06/2022 00:33

Do not put tea tree oil on it.

bluesapphire48 · 12/06/2022 00:47

I would leave a blood blister alone, but if it is really annoying you, then take a hot bath and lance it with a sterile needle. Use epsom salts to draw out any pus.
It's really better if you can leave it alone and let it gradually be absorbed back into your body, though. If it hurts, either before or after lancing it, you could use some topical anesthetic.

@MsOllie what is HS? I have a family member with a cyst on her armpit that looks similar to yours but her doctor is a bit baffled by it and nothing is helping with it, it just constantly weeps and then gets worse again.

HS is Hidradenitis Supprativa. It is a rare auto immune disease that affects your apocrine glands, such as groin, armpits, intimate areas. I have had it on my face, my elbow, bum and labia, have had a vulvectomy to try and stop it but it hasn’t worked. It’s the 3rd most painful disease in the world. Sadly many GP’s won’t see this in their surgeries because a lot of us suffer in silence with gritted teeth.

What a terrible, awful, disgraceful human being I am.

Burn me at the stake, I say! 🔥

I had a huge one two days after i gave birth! It popped just as i was putting baba in his moses and i yelped and let his head drop as i did it (onto a soft matress) it was infected due to all the goings on in that area two days before i had him! So painful! (On my left inner thigh, closer to the top) hope its better now OP!

Main reason why people don't see their GP is embarassment, what with boils coming up on sweaty and intimate places. They feel they must be dirty, or that the GP will think that.

It occurs more often in women, which again adds to the potential embarassment factor. Virtually impossible to tell how many people have it, as many don't see anyone about it, or it can be misdiagnosed for years (as in my case).

WARNING - only true sporners should google pictures of it!

Under what category does Sporners Corner come under? I can't find it anywhere in the list of boards under Talk.

Thanks 👍😊

summer22now · 12/06/2022 10:57

It is hugely hugely embarrassing. Every time I have to go in I am in cringe mode - and people do find it really entertaining. Whereas it's painful and stressful if you get them regularly. I'm all for a laugh though and goodness knows healthcare staff and the rest of us need them!

You also can't talk about it in real life - no I can't go out because putting my pants / bra on hurts and I'm worried that infection will get worse etc etc.

19Bears · 12/06/2022 10:58

Oh Christ. I've had these quite often, but are usually easy to pop and then they're gone. But the one I had a couple of months ago, omg. I was in tears with the pain and seriously considered A&E in the night as it was unbearable. It just would not burst and got to the size of a marble like yours. It looked so ready to go, but nothing would budge it. Managed to get a doctor's appointment the next day (phone consultation wtf) but while I was at work, it went. I ran to the loo and squeezed the stuff out, which went on and on for a few minutes, like a river of horribleness. And it left behind what can only be described as a little tunnel. Two days later, you'd never have known there'd been anything there. I've since seen my doctor and she said if it happens again go to the GUM clinic which is drop-in in my area apparently. Hope you're ok! Good luck.

Does anyone know why we actually like this shit? I'm a huge sporner and it would seem I'm not alone. I've never met a man who's into it either. Is there some evolutionary advantage?

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 12/06/2022 11:32

Oh my friends dh is a massive sporner,I had a splinter once and the pair of them were on it straight away,he's worse than she is! My dad is also a sporner.

An obsession with the need to keep an eye on things which could get seriously nasty... and to treat/cure little infections before they become big problems. I'd say that would be helpful!

A generation back, the woman of the house was the first line in infection control. Cleaning, and treating minor ailments, kept us all away from expensive doctors. Everyone knew how to apply a poultice, draw a splinter, soak in hot salt water, Lance a boil...

The whole 'see your GP, get antibiotics NOW!' business is pretty modern.

I always soaked and drained my kids infections around the nail bed. We call it 'teaspoon surgery'! 'Mum, I think I need some teaspoon surgery!'

Exactly, obviously you're not going to squeeze anything with dirty nails but a hit compress and savlon is pretty basic first aid.

My DH enjoys a bit of sporn. He gets a bit nauseous from videos of it but loves photos and real life sporn. He’ll happily dig away at something in his skin to get it out or unpick a whole heap of ingrown hairs for me.

Thanks to this thread I finally found a pharmacy that stocks magnesium sulphate paste and bought some. DH has some weird skin sores that he’s planning to use it on. It doesn’t seem to be as readily available in my country.

OP: Hope you’re doing okay. Has the spot burst yet?
