Been urgently referred but gp said he doesn't know how long it will take? He said if I've not heard anything in a month then go back and see him.
He agreed it has got bigger and more inflamed and patchy

Footle · 25/07/2017 16:28

Another month? Ffs, doesn't this come under the two week referral guidelines?

HCantThinkOfAUsername · 25/07/2017 17:01

Wales doesn't have the two week cancer referral only urgent and non urgent

Imbroglio · 25/07/2017 21:41

Jeez... maybe you should try again with the dentist as a second line of attack.

HCantThinkOfAUsername · 25/07/2017 21:46

Yes will try that too

Just popped by to see how you got on Angry I'm honestly furious on your behalf!
Can you find out which consultant you have been referred to by name from your GP? Leave it until early next week then call the hospital and ask to be put through to Dr/Mr/Ms Blardyblah's secretary. Ask them has the referral been received and give them a very brief history of what's happened (include the points I noted earlier if poss)
The secretaries are literally amazing, nothing happens without their say so in my experience, a good one will pass on your message to one of the team and hopefully expedite your review.
It's a long shot, but it's worked many times Wink
Any good dental surgeon would be displeased at the least that this has been left. GinFlowers

Footle · 26/07/2017 07:17

Consultant's secretary is a very good next step.

HCantThinkOfAUsername · 26/07/2017 08:22

Yes will ring them on Monday. May even try Friday?
I don't have a clue which consultant/dept I'll be seeing just the hospital. Does anyone have any ideas?

OP posts:
Footle · 26/07/2017 08:56

The GP's receptionist will be able to tell you who the referral letter is addressed to, and when it was sent.

HCantThinkOfAUsername · 26/07/2017 09:13

Great thank you @footle when would be worth ringing them to find out?
Sorry for all the questions!

OP posts:
Footle · 26/07/2017 09:50

Ring the consultant's secretary, you mean? As soon as you have a spare ten minutes. The main thing is to say how worried you are , and how much of a delay there's already been. You could offer to send the photos you've taken.
I have absolutely no medical training btw. I hope this is all a false alarm, but it looks and sounds horrid. Hope you get seen very soon.

HCantThinkOfAUsername · 26/07/2017 14:40

They have no clinic spaces but putting an extra one on for all the emergencies that will be within 10-14 days

OP posts:
Footle · 26/07/2017 18:16

Great result, if that means you will definitely be seen as one of the emergencies.

HCantThinkOfAUsername · 26/07/2017 18:23

She checked through my phone numbers and said she will ring me. I explained I'd have to sort childcare and transport as the hospital is far away and I'm rural and she said it will 100% be within the 14 days from referral (yesterday).

I hope you get some reassurance that it can be treated easily. Do update this thread if you feel like it.

HCantThinkOfAUsername · 27/07/2017 22:46

Thank you footle and thank you for the support and kindness you've shown throughout. I had a missed call from the hospital today but by the time I listened to the voicemail the dept had shut. I'm at another hospital all day tomorrow so won't get the chance to ring until Monday or if I have a break in tomorrow.

You need that thing biopsied asap
Unless there is a simple cause like rubbing on a lone standing tooth.
Is the other side ok?
