mouth ulcers are usually white

Comedyusername · 12/05/2017 23:27

Is it a blister? Did you eat or drink something very hot?

If it's an ulcer Anbesol normally numbs the pain for me

dementedpixie · 12/05/2017 23:29

Could you be sensitive to an ingredient in your toothpaste?

endofthelinefinally · 12/05/2017 23:30

You need to show that to your gp or dentist asap.

zen1 · 12/05/2017 23:34

If you've had it longer than two weeks and it's not getting any better, you need to see your dentist.

badgersnotincluded · 12/05/2017 23:43

Please go see a doctor as soon as you can.

B19M · 12/05/2017 23:51

Make an appointment ASAP with your dentist; that needs an Oral Medicine Opinion +/- biopsy. Make sure you ring the dentist on Monday OP.

HCantThinkOfAUsername · 13/05/2017 09:14

Nope not a blister, thought it was getting better last night but it's not. Damn thing! Have a GP appt for something else on Monday so will mention it then

Would strongly advise dentist and nor doctor but you need to get that looked at if it's been there for more than ten days.

HCantThinkOfAUsername · 13/05/2017 11:15

7 weeks Tuesday. Doesn't look like a usual ulcer but feels like it if that makes sense

Gingernaut · 13/05/2017 11:20

Try this stuff.

It can only be bought over the counter. Apply with a cotton bud.

If it doesn't get better within the week, seek medical attention.

Mrsmorton · 13/05/2017 11:23

It's already been there for 7 weeks. I'm a dentist and it is my professional opinion that it needs to be looked at by a dentist.

Don't fanny around trying to treat it with anything that is only intended to give pain relief, get it looked at.

HCantThinkOfAUsername · 13/05/2017 11:40

I will get it checked @Mrsmorton , hopefully it's nothing.
Thank you all Flowers

I had something very similar on the side of my tongue. I was referred to the hospital and had a small biopsy taken from my tongue to check that it was OK. Luckily it was all ok - I was diagnosed with lichen planus but best go to the dentist to make sure!

AuditAngel · 14/05/2017 22:19

MrsMorton please can I ask an unconnected dentist question? DD2 (6) has an adult lower incisor growing and the baby tooth is still hardly wobbly. Do we need to take her to see the dentist!

Mrsmorton · 14/05/2017 22:40

Not especially, as long as she has regular check ups it will be picked up in time to do anything if necessary.

HCantThinkOfAUsername · 22/06/2017 20:14

Its still here and getting bigger. So 3 months now! Getting it rechecked tomorrow by practise nurse. When I saw gp 6 weeks ago he said it looked like it was beginning to heal but it hasn't.

Please please insist on an urgent referral to the ENT clinic at your hospital. It could be nothing, it could be something very nasty. My dear friend was fobbed off by her GP/dentist. Her husband booked her a private ENT appointment but sadly it all went downhill from there.

HCantThinkOfAUsername · 22/06/2017 20:29

I've got a feeling I'll be fobbed off again and no way I can pay privately :( sorry about your friends DH @viques

OP posts:
viques · 22/06/2017 20:35

There is no need for you to go private, they did because they could afford it ,but take someone with you if you think you will get fobbed off. I am not sure if dentists can give referrals to ENT , that is another route to try.

Mrs Morton, who posted when you posted before is a very experienced dentist and well respected in the MN community, if she says a dentist needs to look at it then she is advising you to do just that.
