@viques am on waiting list for a dentist :)

OP posts:
monkeywithacowface · 22/06/2017 20:51

You need an emergency appointment and to insist on a referral asap. 3 months is far to long for this to have continued

endofthelinefinally · 22/06/2017 20:55

I am shocked at your gp. Can you go to a walk in or emergency dental clinic?

HCantThinkOfAUsername · 22/06/2017 21:03

We don't have walk in here (rural Wales) and I'm on the waiting list for nhs dentist. Hopefully get sorted tomorrow

AnyFucker · 22/06/2017 21:05

Can you get to Manchester or Cardiff ? If you don't have your own dentist....go to a dental hospital.

notapizzaeater · 22/06/2017 21:13

Do you not have an emergency dentist nearby ?

HCantThinkOfAUsername · 22/06/2017 21:16

Would take 2 hours to get to Cardiff but if I'm fobbed off I will do that, I'll have to get the train.
Emergency dentist said they can't see me for that and can't afford private

OP posts:
HCantThinkOfAUsername · 23/06/2017 16:22

Nurse practitioner said it's probably nothing, doing bloods in case I've an infection then see dr in a month if it's not cleared up

OP posts:
endofthelinefinally · 23/06/2017 17:34

I seriously doubt a nurse practitioner is qualified to judge.
You really do need to see a dentist urgently.

paddlenorapaddle · 23/06/2017 17:37

Do you smoke ? If you do you need an urgent biopsy

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 23/06/2017 17:40

Bloody hell,that's shocking medical treatmentShock

Go back and ask to be referred to a specialist. I really wouldn't leave it.

HCantThinkOfAUsername · 23/06/2017 17:40

Smoked for 5 years, haven't for 2.

OP posts:
paddlenorapaddle · 23/06/2017 18:49

Tell them you're a historic smoker it's quite important

monkeywithacowface · 23/06/2017 18:52

No sorry that's just not good enough. Do NOT wait another month.

stayathomegardener · 23/06/2017 19:34

Sorry to be harsh but you do realise it could be cancer, you need to make your health a priority.
Emergency dentist Monday morning.
I hope it turns out to be nothing and that is the most likely option. But get it checked.

Short term try not using any toothpaste at all when brushing for a week in case the ingredients are triggering a reaction.

stayathomegardener · 23/06/2017 19:36

Appreciate you can't afford that emergency dentist but look for others and push your GP for an immediate referral.
Don't be put off and accept waiting.
Good luck.

Dashie · 23/06/2017 20:15

Please don't leave this. As stayathomegardener says, you need to urgently rule out cancer, especially with a smoking history.

If you're worried you can't get to see a dentist, go back to your GP on Monday, ideally a different doctor.

If you're worried about being fobbed off, go armed with the NICE cancer guidelines. These are national guidelines for all medical practitioners. These are for England, I'm not sure how to get the ones for Wales but for suspected cancer they will be the same.
Scroll done to the bottom of page 29 of the guidelines.

www.nice.org.uk/guidance/csg6/resources/improving-outcomes-in-head-and-neck-cancers-update-pdf-773377597

It's difficult to see clearly from your photos on my phone but these are the criteria for urgent referral (to be seen within 2 weeks) and certainly one of them will apply to you:

"Urgent referral guidelines (England)
• Ulceration of oral mucosa persisting for more than three weeks.
• Oral swellings persisting for more than three weeks.
• All red or red and white patches of the oral mucosa."

Insist on being referred and show them this as evidence of why. The GP or nurse can't deny it is needed then.

It could be nothing but it certainly needs looking into further. Good luck and please don't allow them to put you off any more.

HCantThinkOfAUsername · 23/06/2017 20:28

I will see a dentist Monday. I think because I'm young and female and been fobbed off I've told myself it was ok. Seeing it written out has made it seem more important now if that makes sense.
Ill get an updated pic but its the whole side of my tounge now. Something isn't right, I'm prone to mouth ulcers a lot but this one is a stubborn fucker haha!
Thank you all :)

@HCantThinkOfAUsername - how are things?

stayathomegardener · 03/07/2017 15:38

Also checking in to see how you are getting on @HCantThinkOfAUsername

HCantThinkOfAUsername · 06/07/2017 11:34

Struggling to get a dentist appt as its not classed as an emergency (no swelling etc) and I don't have a dentist.
Seeing gp 17th July, it's still here and painful :( bloods abnormal so having them repeated mon.

OP posts:
usersos · 06/07/2017 11:45

What was abnormal with your blood results?

Wilberforce2 · 06/07/2017 11:45

I can't believe they won't give out a dentist appointment Angry Surely it should be an emergency?!

I would be going crazy by now!

Hope bloods turn out to be ok.

HCantThinkOfAUsername · 06/07/2017 11:47

They said I had "deranged LFTs", high wbc, low rbc & high protein (whatever that means!)

OP posts:
ImpossiblyCuteBabyElephant · 06/07/2017 11:53

what the hell is your GP doing? This should be a 2 week rule referral! have you been back to GP?
