It may only be October but Christmas is fast approaching and many of us are already planning for the holiday by thinking about presents, food, and decorations. As well as decking out our home with baubles, Christmas time is also a nudge to get all those niggly DIY home improvements done. Bunnings would like to find out which DIY tasks you’d like to complete before Christmas and any advice you would like for doing them. They will then pick the most popular DIY challenge and create a video of tips and tricks for doing it. We will be sharing this video on another thread in a few weeks time, so keep an eye out!

Whether you want to spruce up your bathroom, put up some new shelving, or give your lounge a new lick of paint, please share your Christmas DIY challenges below and you will be entered into a prize draw to win a £200 voucher of your choice (from a list).

Event - RECRUITMENT NOW CLOSED

Bunnings, the new store for home improvement is having a Grand Opening celebration on the 4th November and would like to recruit 10 Mumsnetters (and their partners/ families if they want to bring them along) to come along to the grand opening and check out the store. All participants will be given a £20 Bunnings voucher on the day and will be required to leave their feedback on a thread on Mumsnet. If you can share an image or post of the event on Facebook, Twitter and/or Instagram as well that would be great! You can enjoy face painting, balloon modelling and even join Peppa Pig and George for a story time session. Activities are between 11am - 3pm, see bunnings.co.uk/our-stores/harlow for details.

If you’re interested in taking part, sign up here. All event attendees that leave their feedback on the feedback thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £100 voucher of your choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

We need to finish some kitchen bits off (plinths, cupboard furnishings etc)

alison991 · 29/10/2017 16:02

We need to paint the living room, its looking worse for wear

CopperPan · 29/10/2017 17:48

We need to replace the blinds in the living room and bedrooms. All of them are cheap white blinds we got when we first moved here and they're looking quite shabby, and offer no real blackout.

fleshmarketclose · 29/10/2017 18:47

I need to sort the bedrooms, I'm moving out of the Master bedroom and moving ds into it and then I will take ds's room and the fourth bedroom downstairs I'm having as a laundry room. Dd wants her room to be more grown up as well so that needs to be done as well. Hopefully I will manage two out of the four before Christmas at least.

We need to re paint the bathroom ceiling it's gone all mouldy. Super gross!!! Not great with 2 small kids!

littlemonkeyz · 29/10/2017 20:39

We are partitioning our spare room to make a storage cupboard/ tardis!

mousemoose · 29/10/2017 20:46

We’ve just moved house so the list is endless! Fill in walls, take down old awfulnnet curtains, fill and sand walls and woodwork, paint EVERYTHING, replace steps and patio outside, windows, front door, velux roof window, all carpets, refinish wooden floor, circuit board, broken sockets and switches replaced and some rewiring too, rehang and replace some doors and all door handles, plus put up hooks and blinds and curtains and all sorts. Don’t even start me on the garden. What have we done?!?

mummymummums · 29/10/2017 20:53

We badly need new curtains.
The kitchen is from the 1970s when the house was built, and needs replacing but we're trying to psyche ourselves up to get an extension so planning to get it done at same time.
We've been here nearly six years so need to find the time for this!

FridgeCut · 29/10/2017 21:23

We need to replace the draft proof stripping around some of our external doors. Very dull but necesary!

ZuzuSa · 29/10/2017 23:28

The house renovation is years in the making. We've currently done the bedrooms, the upstairs bathroom and the flooring upstairs. It all looks very modern and chic. Then you go downstairs and the only thing done is the kitchen.

We need to change flooring, the sitting and dining rooms and the toilet downstairs. And also paint.

SequinsOnEverything · 30/10/2017 07:33

We are halfway through painting the living room and then they kitvhen needs to be tiled. Neither of us have ever tiled before, so not sure how that will go!

Jocelynne123 · 30/10/2017 13:02

Our hallway needs a paint where our Newfoundland likes to rub herself down the wall. I also like to change things like the lamp shades, cushions, rugs and throws to red so that it feels more Christmassy and cosy xx

sarahw2 · 30/10/2017 15:01

I'm hoping to get the living room painted, and our bath panel replaced!

zebedee01 · 30/10/2017 16:11

I would love to get my living room sorted before Christmas. This includes papering and painting, new curtains etc.

ha2el · 30/10/2017 16:23

We have to board up, and possibly tile where the Gas engineers will be ripping out our old boiler and replacing it with a new one. Some paint will have to be applied at some point!

baconbap · 30/10/2017 18:22

a stair rail

Brandypie · 30/10/2017 18:28

We're painting downstairs - just finished the hallway (need a new stairs carpet though) & hopefully we'll freshen the kitchen/living room walls soon too!

CMOTDibbler · 30/10/2017 18:35

Ds is getting a desk for Christmas, so we want to repaint what is currently the playroom ready to make it into his study

Dessallara · 30/10/2017 18:43

Need to paint our hallway and all the skirting boards

Minnibix · 30/10/2017 19:19

We have just moved into a new house, so our challenge is to make the house warm and draught proof, at present its like Siberia :D

mumpetuk1 · 30/10/2017 19:21

Once my son clears out all of his stuff from the office I need to paint it kit it out with a desk and wall shelves

rocketriffs · 30/10/2017 20:03

My hallway and living room will be getting re decorated before Christmas. Get as much done while the kids are at school.

Amarjit2008 · 30/10/2017 20:31

I hadn't heard of Bunnings diy stores before. I will be checking it out, online

ComeTheFuck0nBridget · 30/10/2017 21:13

Oh my gosh I have so many it's ridiculous. We decided to knock a wall out back in May and were only just getting around to finishing it all off now, we just had the floors done but we still need to paint the room and get a new sofa and then we have remodelled the kitchen too. We've just ordered a new kitchen but again that needs painting and installing and worktops and... I thought starting in May meant we'd be avoiding rushing to finish before Christmas. Apparently not!!

blue25 · 30/10/2017 21:30

Regrouting our bath. It looks so scruffy and spoils having a bath!
