It may only be October but Christmas is fast approaching and many of us are already planning for the holiday by thinking about presents, food, and decorations. As well as decking out our home with baubles, Christmas time is also a nudge to get all those niggly DIY home improvements done. Bunnings would like to find out which DIY tasks you’d like to complete before Christmas and any advice you would like for doing them. They will then pick the most popular DIY challenge and create a video of tips and tricks for doing it. We will be sharing this video on another thread in a few weeks time, so keep an eye out!

Whether you want to spruce up your bathroom, put up some new shelving, or give your lounge a new lick of paint, please share your Christmas DIY challenges below and you will be entered into a prize draw to win a £200 voucher of your choice (from a list).

Event - RECRUITMENT NOW CLOSED

Bunnings, the new store for home improvement is having a Grand Opening celebration on the 4th November and would like to recruit 10 Mumsnetters (and their partners/ families if they want to bring them along) to come along to the grand opening and check out the store. All participants will be given a £20 Bunnings voucher on the day and will be required to leave their feedback on a thread on Mumsnet. If you can share an image or post of the event on Facebook, Twitter and/or Instagram as well that would be great! You can enjoy face painting, balloon modelling and even join Peppa Pig and George for a story time session. Activities are between 11am - 3pm, see bunnings.co.uk/our-stores/harlow for details.

If you’re interested in taking part, sign up here. All event attendees that leave their feedback on the feedback thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £100 voucher of your choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

We've got some reclaimed scaffolding boards sanded and painted, just waiting to be put up in the living room (for the last 18months!)

Finish the kitchen floor, plaster a little over a hole repair in the kids room, paint ceiling in main bedroom, possibly do the kids rooms, and a few snags to sort around the house including the ceiling block stain paint from a previous leak. Going to be busy Confused

Bunnings, yay! I have Aussie fa ily who go on and in about how brilliant Bunnings is. I need to know if you'll import the Sausage Sizzle to the UK? We want Bunnings sausage sizzle!

DIY-wise we're having an extension built, so we'll need to do a lot of painting. Any top tips on what you should use on brand new bare plaster? And how to make cutting in less of a ball ache? Smile

Paint the bathroom.

I'm in a rented flat where everything is cream or magnolia and I have grey hair and eczema.

Having spotted the cheaply painted matt magnolia walls with dyes and oils and brought the paint off the walls trying to clean them, I need to repaint the walls to hide the damage.

I also need to clean the cheap, cream coloured carpet.

Hairq · 02/11/2017 07:29

The conservatory really needs plastering. I'm ignoring this.

LunaDoot · 02/11/2017 07:36

Everything!! We've just bought our first house and have six weeks to get in there before Christmas. It's a magnolia hell hole at present but in general good condition. It was a rental for years. All rooms to be painted, take up the cheap laminated floors and sand the floorboards. Luckily it's pretty small but there's still a lot to do with a toddler running about.

What shall we definitely do before we move, and what can wait until we're in? I'm thinking skirting can wait.

KnobJockey · 02/11/2017 09:27

We have just moved house, going from having built in wardrobes to no wardrobes whatsoever! For Christmas, I would like us to have attacked our storage situation, and be able to put clothes away.

DuskPanda · 02/11/2017 13:20

There are a couple of cracked tiles that need replacing in the kitchen, has been on the to do list all year.

Xalonera · 02/11/2017 13:33

Sort out the grout in the bathroom. There isn't an extractor fan in there so the tiling is in a bit of a state.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 02/11/2017 16:42

Hmm I want a whole loft conversion but not DH will go for it - yet anyway!!

Maiyakat · 02/11/2017 21:21

Need to replace the seal around the bath with a tile edge so it won't keep growing mold...

lolly2011 · 02/11/2017 22:05

I need to lay new carpet in my sons bedroom and paint the frontroom.

Congratulations to @WhosTakingDeHorseToFrance whose name was pulled from the prize draw to win the £200 voucher! Grin
