It may only be October but Christmas is fast approaching and many of us are already planning for the holiday by thinking about presents, food, and decorations. As well as decking out our home with baubles, Christmas time is also a nudge to get all those niggly DIY home improvements done. Bunnings would like to find out which DIY tasks you’d like to complete before Christmas and any advice you would like for doing them. They will then pick the most popular DIY challenge and create a video of tips and tricks for doing it. We will be sharing this video on another thread in a few weeks time, so keep an eye out!

Whether you want to spruce up your bathroom, put up some new shelving, or give your lounge a new lick of paint, please share your Christmas DIY challenges below and you will be entered into a prize draw to win a £200 voucher of your choice (from a list).

Event - RECRUITMENT NOW CLOSED

Bunnings, the new store for home improvement is having a Grand Opening celebration on the 4th November and would like to recruit 10 Mumsnetters (and their partners/ families if they want to bring them along) to come along to the grand opening and check out the store. All participants will be given a £20 Bunnings voucher on the day and will be required to leave their feedback on a thread on Mumsnet. If you can share an image or post of the event on Facebook, Twitter and/or Instagram as well that would be great! You can enjoy face painting, balloon modelling and even join Peppa Pig and George for a story time session. Activities are between 11am - 3pm, see bunnings.co.uk/our-stores/harlow for details.

If you’re interested in taking part, sign up here. All event attendees that leave their feedback on the feedback thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £100 voucher of your choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

not DIY as such but our living room has a massive corner sofa and a cover couch taking up 2 walls, tv and fire on 3rd wall and 2 doors on 4th, so we need to move the cuddle couch somewhere in order to get the tree up! I need to finish the glossing too

IonaAilidh11 · 22/10/2017 14:08

redecorate the hall ready for visitors

AuFinch · 22/10/2017 14:10

re grouting the kitchen - it would be nice to have nice clean grout around the kitchen ready for preparing the christmas dinner (and also as its open plan it would be nice for the kitchen to look clean while we eat)! i hear you can get some kind of attachments to get grout out inbetween the tiles and would be interested in how that is done without being a professional!

I want to give my kitchen cupboard doors a facelift by painting them another colour

Elizasmum02 · 22/10/2017 14:21

hmariez · 22/10/2017 14:21

Decorating my children’s bedrooms xx

We need to get our back garden fence mended after it was damaged in the recent gales. I also need to complete our bathroom - just the fittings to buy and fit up!

glenka · 22/10/2017 14:41

The whole house could really do with painting.

gd2011 · 22/10/2017 14:54

I need to re-do the sealant in the bathroom.

phillie1 · 22/10/2017 14:56

spare room cleared out, so guests can actually get in there

user1491928364 · 22/10/2017 14:57

Hoping to move house within next 6 weeks (Baby due in 4 weeks!) so sure we will find all kinds of jobs which need doing when we move!

CharleyYpres · 22/10/2017 14:58

We have (for some reason) decided to completely redo our driveway and extend it so a neighbour has a parking space too. What possessed us I don't know but the men seem to be handling everything, I'll just spectate!

123hartley123 · 22/10/2017 15:01

we need new curtains throughout, needs to be pushed

lizd31 · 22/10/2017 15:11

I need to try to remove the paint from my fridge freezer that the decorator got all over it when painting the kitchen & try to cover up the scratches with enamel paint that the floor fitters made when moving it back. I also need to do the same to my washer/dryer. I'm replacing the screw cap covers on my grab rails in my bathroom as they're all broken & removing the rust & repainting the grab rails outside my front & back door. I've also got an antique side table which I'm going to upcycle

hdh747 · 22/10/2017 15:16

The main thing I want to do before Christmas is sort out some shelving for mine and my daughter's ever-growing craft stash.

Tigger83 · 22/10/2017 15:27

So much! Baby and wedding next year so trying to get ready for both!!

cherylann2461 · 22/10/2017 15:30

My kitchen could do with a lick of paint

tallandlong · 22/10/2017 15:31

I dont have a list, my wife does!!!

prwilson · 22/10/2017 15:31

The garden gate needs fixing.

Dormouse1940 · 22/10/2017 15:40

This is a bit of a tough one for us because we rent... We've recently had half the plaster in the loune ripped off and replaced due to a damp problem- were just waiting for the landlord to tell us when (if!) it'll be repainted when 'Storm Brian' has created/exposed a further problem with damp... SIGH.
But it would be nice to have that sorted and repainted before Christmas.

Otherwise it's just small things like putting up a few pictures, fixing a large mantel mirror over the fireplace and adding a shelf or two (we've only lived here 3 months, been on the 'to-do list' for a while!)

ThemisA · 22/10/2017 15:42

We don't have much spare cash but I try to choose project that maximise the effect of modernizing our property for minimal expense. This year we have managed to put new oak doors in downstairs and hope to do the same upstairs next year. I would love to paint the living room before Christmas and then we will almost look quite plush.

MSHGW · 22/10/2017 15:45

The tap in the bathroom needs replacing, as the cold water side doesn't work. Also the hallway needs repainting.

holey · 22/10/2017 15:55

Where do I start?!
We ripped up the stair carpet, intending to paint the stairs and have carpet treads but have only done half of it.
I want to upcycle the coffee table as I varnished it a few years ago and it is all peeling off, plus the dogs both chewed the corners when they were puppies.
The blinds in the front room have had it- dogs again- so want to either get new blinds or go back to curtains.
The sofa is relatively new but hubby falls asleep on it as he keeps unusual working hours and I could do with new seat cushion pads.

I'm going to stop now before I realise just how many things need doing!
