It may only be October but Christmas is fast approaching and many of us are already planning for the holiday by thinking about presents, food, and decorations. As well as decking out our home with baubles, Christmas time is also a nudge to get all those niggly DIY home improvements done. Bunnings would like to find out which DIY tasks you’d like to complete before Christmas and any advice you would like for doing them. They will then pick the most popular DIY challenge and create a video of tips and tricks for doing it. We will be sharing this video on another thread in a few weeks time, so keep an eye out!

Whether you want to spruce up your bathroom, put up some new shelving, or give your lounge a new lick of paint, please share your Christmas DIY challenges below and you will be entered into a prize draw to win a £200 voucher of your choice (from a list).

Event - RECRUITMENT NOW CLOSED

Bunnings, the new store for home improvement is having a Grand Opening celebration on the 4th November and would like to recruit 10 Mumsnetters (and their partners/ families if they want to bring them along) to come along to the grand opening and check out the store. All participants will be given a £20 Bunnings voucher on the day and will be required to leave their feedback on a thread on Mumsnet. If you can share an image or post of the event on Facebook, Twitter and/or Instagram as well that would be great! You can enjoy face painting, balloon modelling and even join Peppa Pig and George for a story time session. Activities are between 11am - 3pm, see bunnings.co.uk/our-stores/harlow for details.

If you’re interested in taking part, sign up here. All event attendees that leave their feedback on the feedback thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £100 voucher of your choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

I need to lay floor covering in the hallway as the stone floor is very cold.

biffyboom · 30/10/2017 21:53

We need to put up pictures and mirrors around the house, we moved in 2 years ago to a new build, and the internal walls are thin and don't appear to take weight very well Angry

cathryn1 · 30/10/2017 22:26

Our bedroom - always getting put on the back burner always something else to do

JayJay1874 · 30/10/2017 22:39

our main pre-christmas DIY activity is getting a new nursery ready for our December arrival.

Shelving in other areas is also on the agenda.

srobbo71 · 30/10/2017 22:44

We fitted a shower about 8 months ago but haven't yet tiled around it so can't use it. That is the number one job that needs doing in the house at the minute.

rhinosuze · 30/10/2017 23:12

We really need to new shower before Xmas as we are having guests and its not working well

cluckyhen · 30/10/2017 23:36

We need to build a new bed and chest of drawers after DS broke his

Bsummers · 30/10/2017 23:44

Our roof is leaking so that definitely needs to get fixed, also I'd like to repaint my bedroom.

pret · 31/10/2017 07:33

I need to take the sealant off from around the bath and replace it so it’s back to a fresh white colour.

Then I need to repaint the porch, lots of scuffs around the door and I think it’ll be easier to just repaint the whole lot.

Last job is to fix a broken cupboard hinge. It has dropped a bit and now won’t open and close properly.

All hints and tips gratefully received.

We have a small down stair toilet, i would really like to brighten it up with some loud wallpaper and would paint the radiator, pipes and back of toilet in black so it really stands out against the wallpaper. Might sound odd but i can visualize it

SSCRASE123 · 31/10/2017 08:31

I need to try and secure my rotting garden shed temporarily until Spring when I will need to replace completely. Going to run some felt down the back over the failed sections to try and keep dry.

toniuk · 31/10/2017 08:35

I need to paint the wc and replace the toilet seat also need a new blind for the window after that new flooring

Dan35 · 31/10/2017 08:38

Need to get the windows painted so my Christmas displays look great from outside!

Emmamaryd · 31/10/2017 08:57

I would love a new bathroom but suspect it is not going to be possible till the New Year

Pimmpom · 31/10/2017 09:14

We need to start stripping the hall - it is such a big job though with the high ceiling.

piggypoo · 31/10/2017 12:14

I really need to get some storage sorted out for my flat, I've got stuff piled up, since I moved in March, and have just not got round to sorting out shelving and cupboards!

ChocolateChipMuffin2016 · 31/10/2017 12:38

We've just laid a shed base and ordered a shed, our next project will be putting it together!!!

myboycraig · 31/10/2017 14:48

Could really do with a new bathroom

12LuDo · 31/10/2017 17:26

Desperately need to finish painting the hallway. It's been half finished forever. People who come to the door must think it's some kind of bold artistic statement!

cheekylittledevil · 31/10/2017 17:52

Loads of big and little jobs needing doing - paint the hall, stairs and landing, decorate DS's bedroom, touch up the kitchen where hubby has already touched up with the wrong colour, try and replace the freezer drawer fronts, stop the kitchen tap from dripping, find the leak in the shower....pour a large vodka and tonic!

Tonkatol · 31/10/2017 20:58

We currently have double doors that separate our lounge and dining -room, although you can get straight to the kitchen from the dining room. We need to remove the dividing wall (not a retainer wall) and want to switch the lounge and dining room ends around - that way we will have a slightly larger lounge and will have our fire in the lounge so we can make use of it. Then, I would like the lounge, dining room and kitchen repainted in one colour (but not sure that will happen before Christmas).

VickyRsuperstar · 31/10/2017 21:51

I feel in despair at the state of my place atm. We were in the middle of having a new kitchen put in, one month on after a string of errors we still have no working kitchen and all the wrong units were ordered by someone at the company!!!
Apart from the kitchen, the hall, landings and banisters all need repainting and the stair carpet needs replacing! After being ill with asthma for weeks, followed by a bad sickness bug and I'm now 30 weeks pregnant...I can safely say that I'm stuck with this mess until sometime next year as paying someone else to do it would ruin our Christmas budget :-( Maybe if we put up enough Christmas decorations it might hide the flaws?

WheresTheCoffee · 31/10/2017 23:28

Curtains, my bedroom needs curtains. I'm not sure I can go another winter without them!

BillyJoel · 01/11/2017 00:38

Finish building kitchen ceiling. Put thermal liner wallpaper on daughters bedroom wall.surprise makeover of daughters room.repaint stone wall in the yard. I have zero skills or experience but it can't be so hard, can it???

bobthebuddha · 01/11/2017 11:39

Re-flooring and re-painting the living room - no small task as it's our only living space....
