It may only be October but Christmas is fast approaching and many of us are already planning for the holiday by thinking about presents, food, and decorations. As well as decking out our home with baubles, Christmas time is also a nudge to get all those niggly DIY home improvements done. Bunnings would like to find out which DIY tasks you’d like to complete before Christmas and any advice you would like for doing them. They will then pick the most popular DIY challenge and create a video of tips and tricks for doing it. We will be sharing this video on another thread in a few weeks time, so keep an eye out!

Whether you want to spruce up your bathroom, put up some new shelving, or give your lounge a new lick of paint, please share your Christmas DIY challenges below and you will be entered into a prize draw to win a £200 voucher of your choice (from a list).

Event - RECRUITMENT NOW CLOSED

Bunnings, the new store for home improvement is having a Grand Opening celebration on the 4th November and would like to recruit 10 Mumsnetters (and their partners/ families if they want to bring them along) to come along to the grand opening and check out the store. All participants will be given a £20 Bunnings voucher on the day and will be required to leave their feedback on a thread on Mumsnet. If you can share an image or post of the event on Facebook, Twitter and/or Instagram as well that would be great! You can enjoy face painting, balloon modelling and even join Peppa Pig and George for a story time session. Activities are between 11am - 3pm, see bunnings.co.uk/our-stores/harlow for details.

If you’re interested in taking part, sign up here. All event attendees that leave their feedback on the feedback thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £100 voucher of your choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Hmmm....radiators......What is the best way to deal with flaking paint on radiators? Do you strip them or wire brush them?! I know we need a special radiator paint for them due to the temperature they reach, but that's all. I don't know where to start!

alsproject · 23/10/2017 21:12

I really need to repaint the windows but the paint takes days to dry

sweir1 · 23/10/2017 21:27

The bathroom needs regrouting

snare · 23/10/2017 21:46

I am trying to paint my hall - its a big job :)

PussCatTheGoldfish · 23/10/2017 22:03

Finishing touches to the kitchen. A bit of freestanding worktop to go up next to the cooker mostly. Finally getting round to it after the rest of the kitchen was done 4 years ago!

FrenchieMum2Be · 23/10/2017 23:15

I'd like to sort myfront room curtails out (the curtain rail is broken...) so I've got somewhere to put the Christmas tree.

tracezeus1968 · 23/10/2017 23:37

We are getting ready for our 1st ever bathroom refurbishment, well as soon as I can decide on floor and wall tiles, I'm so excited I can't wait to create a little haven where I can enjoy lovely hot bubble baths and pampering.

freefan · 24/10/2017 00:31

The paintwork in my hall and stairway is very much the worse for wear and need a freshen up before Christmas, I've also got my eye on some lovely kitchen wallpaper... just need to convince the other half that we need it done ready for the big day.

FlukeSkyeRunner · 24/10/2017 07:30

Our skirting boards could do with repainting and a few of the walls downstairs need touching up thanks to they kids grubby hand prints here and there.

allibaby · 24/10/2017 07:45

We will be putting up new shelving units in the living room (I want extra space for my Christmas decorations) and also we will be painting the hallway to brighten it up.

NerrSnerr · 24/10/2017 09:36

We want to put more shelves up in both children’s rooms.

kamaxtra · 24/10/2017 10:54

New curtains for our living room - the ones that came with it are horrendous and falling apart!

ANNEKS · 24/10/2017 12:11

We’ve just adopted 2 dogs who have pulled the stair carpet off and chewed the cord on the sofa...lots of sanding and sewing for me before Christmas!

Abominus · 24/10/2017 13:11

Hoping to get a bunch of things done in the living room. Paint the walls and ceiling and aiming to get a new carpet. All i need now is the time and motivation.

sophiefx · 24/10/2017 15:10

We are planning on doing putting up another wardrobe in our bedroom before Christmas, just so we can put our new Christmas gifts in there after Christmas!!

Santress · 24/10/2017 20:25

Decorating my sons bedroom - the paint has faded in places and it hasn’t been decorated in about 5 years so the diggers on his wall aren’t quite to his taste anymore

claza93 · 24/10/2017 20:50

The hall needs finishing, most rooms need a lick of paint and our new puppy is trashing our front room carpet!! Where to start lol

jandoc · 24/10/2017 21:40

I want a new kitchen and bathroom. Hopefully the bathroom will be done for Xmas

thesockgap · 25/10/2017 14:50

Where to begin! We are in the process of having new windows and doors fitted, after that we're getting kitchen refitted and new flooring, and hopefully will have time after THAT to do some decorating before Christmas. At the very least I hope to get the living room looking presentable before the big day....

SistersOfPercy · 25/10/2017 15:29

Because I'm lazy, rather than cleaning up the old rainfall type show head I bought a new one.

Because I'm easily swayed by shiny things new one had to have lights. New one is smaller than old one.

Water pressure flooding into new smaller head cannot cope, therefore has blown a seal inside the shower.

Kitchen ceiling now needs replastering Blush

But! Shiny things!!!

WelshMumof1 · 25/10/2017 15:58

The baby is moving into his own room soon and it needs to be entirely decorated. At the moment we have a very odd shaped room and I really need to build cupboards / wardrobe doors into one of the alcoves to create a more even shape + proper storage. I also need to redo all the walls and the flooring too as it's currently tile which will be very cold in the winter.

helsrodders · 25/10/2017 17:41

My lounge is the next on my list. It needs a paint touch up before I put up my Christmas tree and decorations early December.

cookie09 · 25/10/2017 18:53

I'm dying to give my bathroom a lick of paint and a bit of updating as its looking a bit shabby. Its the part where you have to give it all a deep clean before you start that puts me off! Living in a house with 3 males and myself, you can only imagine how many times i'm on my hands and knees cleaning around the toilet pan, the surrounding wall and pretty much anywhere they can aim. I need to be 100% ready and prepared before i start for the challenge ahead Hmm

mclarkie · 25/10/2017 19:10

Bath towel rail is falling off. + plenty of painting around the house needed

GinGeum · 25/10/2017 19:29

We have far too many DIY jobs to do before Christmas! We need to repaint the stairs and buy a runner, and we also need to repaint a lot of our rooms. I also want to try and get a new fridge and have a bit of a re-jig of our dysfunctional kitchen too, but I'm not sure the budget will stretch that far.
