It may only be October but Christmas is fast approaching and many of us are already planning for the holiday by thinking about presents, food, and decorations. As well as decking out our home with baubles, Christmas time is also a nudge to get all those niggly DIY home improvements done. Bunnings would like to find out which DIY tasks you’d like to complete before Christmas and any advice you would like for doing them. They will then pick the most popular DIY challenge and create a video of tips and tricks for doing it. We will be sharing this video on another thread in a few weeks time, so keep an eye out!

Whether you want to spruce up your bathroom, put up some new shelving, or give your lounge a new lick of paint, please share your Christmas DIY challenges below and you will be entered into a prize draw to win a £200 voucher of your choice (from a list).

Event - RECRUITMENT NOW CLOSED

Bunnings, the new store for home improvement is having a Grand Opening celebration on the 4th November and would like to recruit 10 Mumsnetters (and their partners/ families if they want to bring them along) to come along to the grand opening and check out the store. All participants will be given a £20 Bunnings voucher on the day and will be required to leave their feedback on a thread on Mumsnet. If you can share an image or post of the event on Facebook, Twitter and/or Instagram as well that would be great! You can enjoy face painting, balloon modelling and even join Peppa Pig and George for a story time session. Activities are between 11am - 3pm, see bunnings.co.uk/our-stores/harlow for details.

If you’re interested in taking part, sign up here. All event attendees that leave their feedback on the feedback thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £100 voucher of your choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

New bathroom for us. My husband in his wise wise wise self decided to move a doorway. Said doorway has no new door and the bathroom is a bomb site with two under three and a half meddling. Apparently I don't need to nag about it, I just have to remind him once every few months....

JoGodfray · 25/10/2017 20:47

The kids rooms could do with a lick of paint - what is it with kids making so many marks on their walls!! I wish I could do it myself but I can't justify or afford messing it up!!

Popcornandbuttons · 25/10/2017 20:47

we've just moved house into a massive project which needs a gazillion jobs doing to it. First job is to sort out the utility room which is just awful with mould from where the washing machine was - replaster the collapsing wall...new plumbing needed too.

DinosaurSex · 25/10/2017 21:54

We need to redo our bathroom almost entirely! It's been horrible since we moved in in 2014! This year will finally be the year

Gibble1 · 25/10/2017 22:41

Desperately need to replace the silicone sealant in the shower drain which is very hard to get to and can’t remove anything for ease of access. Also need to remould my room, DS’s room and de fluff the rest of the house. Kitchen being refitted in a couple of weeks so DH and I need to crack on and do all the other jobs and decorating. It’s going to be hellosh as I also have my Nights Away Assessment for Cub camp in two weeks 😱

Hmumto3 · 25/10/2017 22:46

Just moved into our first home and a new boiler, a new bathroom and a new kitchen are needed. A side extension would also be nice for both upstairs and downstairs. Need a downstairs toilet added on

Wellandtrulyoutnumbered · 26/10/2017 08:38

I need to repaint entire house in next six month or so. However first job is the kitchen. It looks awful.

Butteredparsn1ps · 26/10/2017 09:06

Applied! This is fairly local to us so hoping the new store has good materials.

We are looking to do a spruce up before Christmas before tackling a bigger project in the New Year.

I’d like to change the doors on the Kitchen units and swap one of the cupboards for a drawer unit.

The Kitchen walls need repainting and we need a new floor, but first I’d like to knock down some internal walls to make a large Kitchen / Diner / hall.

This means we need a new porch so we don’t lose all our heat - so it will be quite a big project with new flooring, windows and if the budget allows, French or bifold doors out to the back garden.

In the meantime both DDs bedrooms need a makeover & new curtain poles...

hannahbjm · 26/10/2017 13:55

I would love to get my daughter out of our room and start decorating my sons rooms so they can share together

dilydaly · 26/10/2017 14:22

Have to do out my eldest daughter's bedroom, we only moved in a couple of months ago and it will be one of the 'easier' things we can get done before Christmas. It's a small box room so it'll probably have to have fitted wardrobes to make the most of the space ! Thanks :)

Caillou · 26/10/2017 15:37

Kids bedroom needs to be redone as my 2 years old dd is moving in with her 6yo sister so some adjustments are needed.

Damocat · 26/10/2017 16:20

New bathroom
New kitchen
New heating
New electrics
Plastering everywhere
New flooring everywhere
Painting everywhere
Oh and the roof leaks.

We are in the middle of doing all the above and I just want to cry. It just seems to be getting worse and worse. Hopefully we will soon see progress rather than destruction!

Firewall · 26/10/2017 16:22

We have to do new laminate and skirtings and also paint our downstairs living room so we can finally have a sofa and a nice family area for Christmas (and new baby!!)

like7 · 26/10/2017 16:35

stop the upstairs toilet overflow constantly going..new ballcock?

JulesJules · 26/10/2017 18:05

In my dreams I'd like to convert the loft into a bedroom and bathroom, and also replace the existing bathroom.

More realistic - repaint the kitchen - the 'decorator' who did it used cheapo non wipeable paint. And the hall, stairwell and landing needs painting.

ClashCityRocker · 26/10/2017 19:41

I really ought to get the boiler and pipes boxed in.

quizqueen · 26/10/2017 20:00

I'm hoping to have an extension next year and realised that my greenhouse will be a bit too close to the new brickwork so my friend offered to help me to change round the access to the greenhouse and move it away a bit too. Unfortunately, this is going to mean taking nearly all the glass panels out which is a pain.

To move it he had a great idea to put it on rollers. All I could muster up was an old hoover piece of tubing and some beading from old stools but it worked and, pushing them underneath the structure, we easily moved it a foot or so, bit by bit, by putting our weight behind some spades and pushing it gently. Now I know how they built the pyramids!!!!

Not bad for a couple of retirees!

jenid123 · 26/10/2017 20:58

I am hoping to turn the big cupboard in our hallway which is currently piled high to the ceiling with junk into a coat cupboard, so we have somewhere to hang guests coats. Wish me luck!

CheeseEMouse · 26/10/2017 22:16

Painting the wall outside our house. It's a gratifying job when done as it will look so clean!

smithsurvey14 · 26/10/2017 22:57

Mold! I need to get rid of the mold that keeps coming back on the walls and ceilings. I have tried bleach, mold and mildew spray and hydrogen peroxide but no matter what it always comes back. I am worried that a new coat of paint will just make things worse.

sbruin1122 · 26/10/2017 23:32

putting up fairy lights around the house!

WowOoo · 27/10/2017 09:05

We need to finish decorating the hall. We've started it but need to get someone in with a very tall ladder to reach the highest part of the ceiling.

NEMSparkle · 27/10/2017 09:19

We need to repaint the living room and hall way which is fine and won’t be too difficult, but the wood work is desperate and the worst job so any hints and tips to make that easier would be good!

simiisme · 27/10/2017 10:15

The whole house needs decorating - it's been years! But our priority is a large hole in the kitchen ceiling, courtesy of a leaking boiler that we had to replace earlier this year. I suppose we could hang some fake Santa legs out of it to make it look more festive for Christmas? :D

cathisherwood · 27/10/2017 13:30

We fitted a new kitchen floor over the old one and now have to raise the back door in order to accommodate a door mat ( its a PVC door not a wooden one) Hope we sort it in time for Christmas
