It may only be October but Christmas is fast approaching and many of us are already planning for the holiday by thinking about presents, food, and decorations. As well as decking out our home with baubles, Christmas time is also a nudge to get all those niggly DIY home improvements done. Bunnings would like to find out which DIY tasks you’d like to complete before Christmas and any advice you would like for doing them. They will then pick the most popular DIY challenge and create a video of tips and tricks for doing it. We will be sharing this video on another thread in a few weeks time, so keep an eye out!

Whether you want to spruce up your bathroom, put up some new shelving, or give your lounge a new lick of paint, please share your Christmas DIY challenges below and you will be entered into a prize draw to win a £200 voucher of your choice (from a list).

Event - RECRUITMENT NOW CLOSED

Bunnings, the new store for home improvement is having a Grand Opening celebration on the 4th November and would like to recruit 10 Mumsnetters (and their partners/ families if they want to bring them along) to come along to the grand opening and check out the store. All participants will be given a £20 Bunnings voucher on the day and will be required to leave their feedback on a thread on Mumsnet. If you can share an image or post of the event on Facebook, Twitter and/or Instagram as well that would be great! You can enjoy face painting, balloon modelling and even join Peppa Pig and George for a story time session. Activities are between 11am - 3pm, see bunnings.co.uk/our-stores/harlow for details.

If you’re interested in taking part, sign up here. All event attendees that leave their feedback on the feedback thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £100 voucher of your choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

My living room and hallway needs a fresh paint

theresamustgo · 22/10/2017 23:17

Whole place s a dump, but to start with we need to put in a new hob.

KittyKat88 · 22/10/2017 23:33

My DDs bedrooms are in dire need of re-painting and updating, but we have a very small house and no space really to shift furniture to! I have no idea how to clear their rooms to enable me to re-decorate safely!

Fumnudge · 23/10/2017 00:43

Are you ready for this? You can't handle the truth!
No kitchen ceiling (husband wanted to look at the wall so taking down the ceiling is logical, right?)
No working hob (2 ring electric plug in one cuts out after 20 minutes or when it feels like it)
Random water running through the cavity walls possibly needs investigating, goes hand in hand with wall mould removal
Shower pump died today
Kitchen work top instead of the work bench I'm currently using
I think that's all! Totally outed myself to any friends Blush but I'm still happy in life, it would be lovely to get it fixed but I have health, family and a roof (and just about 4 walls standing Grin )

Bathroom needs a waterproof paint course tiles need to be grouted again and the door painted.

daniel1996 · 23/10/2017 08:57

I would love the exterior of my home painting with weatherproof paint, it is beginning to flake in areas, and needs a fresh new coat. We have the extendable roller, just need to buy the tins of paint.

StealthNinjaMum · 23/10/2017 09:07

The seals around my patio doors have got dirty black spots that washing with bleach won't remove. A friend has suggested that we need to remove them and redo them and it's 'easy' but I have no idea where to start.

I also need wash the dirty spots of our walls that get the most use and then possibly paint over any that won't clean. We have the same bland colour in every room in our house so I go around about once a year washing and painting over any dirty spots.

Final job is to buy and assemble a new bookcase for the sitting room.

farhanac · 23/10/2017 09:59

We are in the middle of renovating an old house, the bathroom has been done. We have just started on the sitting room, floor has been ripped up and concreted, ceiling is down waiting for new one. Still needs to be painted and new skirting boards and doors etc.

mummykate87 · 23/10/2017 14:24

To get my daughter's room finished at long last! I'd love it to be perfect ready for Christmas.

TimandGinger · 23/10/2017 15:34

We moved this year and I have lots of things I want to frame and hang up to give the house a more personal touch. We'll have relatives staying at Christmas and I'd really like to get it done by then.

MillyVanilli222 · 23/10/2017 15:46

I'd love to paint our bathroom, and maybe get some new bits and bobs for the shower!

lalalauren416 · 23/10/2017 17:29

I'd like to put some shelves in my living room and finally get pictures on the walls

helly27 · 23/10/2017 18:43

Would love to give the kitchen a lick of paint just to brighten it up a bit before the festive season

stefalfie11 · 23/10/2017 18:50

We need to finish painting the guest room and put up a wardrobe and shelves and finish sanding the staircase!

AWholeLottaRosie · 23/10/2017 19:11

We have a gorgeous little dog but when he first came to live with us he chewed our skirting boards, especially the corners. It's not a major thing but it's spoiling the look of the hallway in particular.
I'd love to know if there's a way of repairing the existing pieces or do we need to remove them completely, and if we do remove them is there a simple way of replacing them?

svalentine60 · 23/10/2017 20:18

I'm trying to get my kitchen and dining room turned into one large open planned room by Christmas. It's not looking too good at the moment though because builders keep not turning up. Might have to take a hammer to it myself lol
